Had her a few years back in journalism and ARL. Now majoring in journalism, I find those classes were a great foundation for me. Dry sense of humor.
She is nice. Very helpful. I got an A in Public Speaking.
She was always available and willing to help me when I asked. Her directions were clear. She was funny. I liked her. She's better one-on-one than in front of the entire class.
Really organized: weekly forecasts
You can tell she's taught journalism for a long time. She's really knowledgeable on things if you ask her questions. I want to be a writer and she helped me a lot. She makes good comments on papers, and she grades fairly. She's very tech-y.
I had her for journalism. She was always helpful.
If you listen in class, follow the directions on the assignments and keep up with your work, you'll do great in any of Ms. Hemmerly's classes. I had her for both Public Speaking and Journalism. She's
I really enjoyed Ms. Hemmerly in Public Speaking. Her instructions were always clear, and she graded consistently and fairly. She was also easy to talk to if I needed help.
She takes a lot of getting used to, but by the end of the year, she's pretty cool. I actually miss her know that she's not the Norwester teacher anymore.
Hemmerly is very helpful in the classroom, but so much of what she teaches requires out of class work, like interviewing and photography and selling ads. I loved Arlingtonian, but it was hard work. J1 and JII were very helpful classes now that I'm in college majoring in journalism.
i remember how dedicated she was, but also how patronizing she could be. she also blatantly favored the boys...
If you're willing to work, you'll love her and she'll love you. If you're looking to slide by, you'll hate her and she'll "put up" with you.
I actually missed her over the summer. She takes a little getting used to, especially her sense of humor, but once you "get her," you're good. She can be brutally honest.
i hate arlingtonian. you need to pay attention to the artists too.
I'm getting ready to graduate from the Scripps School of Journalism at OU, and most of my classes were re-hashes of JI & J2. Definitely felt prepared, and she's student-friendly.
i liked J1 mainly because of her, but the class was kinda hard and a lot of work. don't know if my writing got better or not, but i feel like i learned some stuff about journalism
She can either make your experience awesome or miserable. New kids: Get on her good side ASAP or say goodbye to journalism. I think she's a great teacher.
Her high standards make me want to be a better writer, a better person. I've learned a lot about following through on things in her class.
I absolutely love Norwester. Maybe the reasons she is harder in in J-1 and J-2 is because she is preparing students to work on harder publications.
Practicly the only teacher in the school after 3:15--she's really helpful if you need it, and she's always there.
Hemmerly: To be fair, I can see why people like her. Unfortunately, if she dislikes you, you're in for a rough ride, EVEN IF YOU WRITE WELL. I value fairnes a great deal, and a teacher who can be as cruel as she is to the ones who she dislikes...that I ca
I liked her, but I can see how other people wouldn't. She'd call you out pretty fast if you were slacking.
If you didn't get at least a B, then you did absolutely nothing. She's a hard grader on writing (with comments), but the other assignments bring up your grade.
she's probably the best writing teacher i've had so far. she grades hard, but she always explains why and shows how to make it better. very helpful teacher.
j1 is alright, but she grades pretty hard and has a LOT of assignments! but somethin bout her is weird, the way she talks or somethin, she spaces out a lot lol
SHE'S NICE. SHE TRIES TO GIVE US BREAKS BETWEEN THE HARDER ASSIGNMENTS, AND I THINK I'LL BE READY TO WRITE ON ARLINGTONIAN NEXT YEAR.
She does give a lot of assignments, but I think that's the only way we can learn the writing style. If you ask for help, she'll give you lots.
So far J-I has been hard. She takes her job of teaching us about students' rights really seriously, which is cool. Please, no more quizzes on the readings!
terrible class (j-1), hates everyone who isnt hardcore
shes a awful teacher and she's unusually mean, i hated her
This is a tuff one. let me start off with this; I am scared of her. But in contrast I realise that what has stressed everyone out in journalism III classes, is probably infecting her too, I feel her pain.
hemmerly's one of my favorite teachers in the school. she's a trip.
Her directions are very clear, and my writing definitely improved in her classes, which was the point. Sometimes assignments could have been better spaced out.
I've had her for three years; she's a good teacher, but she makes you work hard.
Only a freshman would say she's unbareable. If I were a teacher, I wouldn't want to have that person in a writing course. Go 'Tonian!
I've been in Hemmerly's class since she came to UA, she's really into what she's doing, and she's done a great job!
She's a perfectionist, which is good for a journalism teacher. Hemmerly takes a lot of flak for stuff we write.
She can be harsh, sometimes, but she's always fair. Makes you work.
Hemmerly is scrupulously fair. that's why everyone bashes her as a really hard teacher. she's really, really good at what she does (publication stuff, pagemaker and such.)
She really cares about students and the work they do. Hard, but fair.
shes a cool person and all, her class is just hard so dont take it if you think itll be easy or fun
