Well, instead of reviewing for the 3 final essays and the regents and the art final, we are instead assigned 4 100+point projects. Speaks for itself. there's more, but i've got those projects to do.
I find Mrs. Curvin, very out of wack. I feel like she doesn't follow her own rubric and is biased, who picks favorites. I've seen people do horrible in things receiving 80's, while others doing way better are failing. In my opinion she's not a good teacher.
She was not the most knowledgeable teacher nor very interesting and she is not very clear about her assignments. She is also very one sided in her thinking and does not encourage much debate.
U can't believe how bad she is until you experience her first hand. Talks a lot but that's not really teaching. Wish Id taken anything but AP. This is going to be a long year. A very long year!
she's tough, but if you do the work you'll be fine. she definitely knows what she's talking about. put in the effort and she will totally help your writing and analytical skills
19th century teacher in a 21st century world. With the exception of having friends in class, I dreaded going to AP. That's a shame. The literature is good, why can't they get someone who's interested in teaching it so that students will relate and enjoy the literature?
It's hard to believe anyone likes her style. It didn't seem to me that she did any prep at all, just talked about the same old, same old. I wanted the AP and did prepare for that but the class bored me out of my mind.
Please, somebody needs to tell her that teaching is more than sitting on a desk and telling us everything she thinks or thinks she knows. She assigns lots of papers, like that's all there is. Papers come back with grades and little else. I wouldn't take her class again and I hear the other AP teacher is even worse. It doesn't seem like she ever does anything new, just pulls stuff from memory. Big deal.
I think she's a really good teacher. She actually gets involved with the class and tries to get the class to understand the material on a higher level. The only thing is that she does hate the whole packing up before the bell thing that a few people have mentioned. But other than that, she's made CultLit relatively alright. Oh, and definitely pay close attention to everything that happens in the books she assigns, the quizzes on them can be very specific.
a brilliant women. has a passion for english and likes to share it. also she likes to have fun with the class and doesnt look down on us as only being in high school.
I've learned after having Curvin, that she's actually one of the smartest people I've ever met. I think her biggest problem is that she's been teaching for so long she FORGETS that the class may not necessarily know what shes talking about. Her BIGGEST pet peeve is when people pack up before she's done talking so DO NOT DO THAT. eeven if theres 10 seconds left! You'll do fine in her class as long as you let her know that youre interested in what she has to say, and you genuinly care about learning.
Not a nice lady. Talks way to much. Plays faves. Does she plan anything? Takes forever to return work and I wonder if she reads before grading it. Boooooring! Must stop telling us about her kids &dog.
not a big fan, she has favorites and obviously they do very wel in her class, she is boring at times and tends to drag on. nice women but very drab teacher, test/quizzes are fair though & not too bad
What's up with the sad face next to her name! Pushes her students to think at their maximum intelligence, funny if you get her sense of humour, and makes nice cultural references. I like her a lot.
Amazing lady and great teacher, but a sketchy grader. Get to know her and talk with her and you will get better grades. Very smart and prepares students very well for the AP, and she loves English!!!!
There are two Curvin's: one for cult/lit and one for AP English. I never had her for cult/lit, but I hear that she's not the greatest teacher to have in that context. However, she absolutely adores her AP classes, and it's definitely a fun class.
Oh lord, she was the worst teacher I have ever had. She has absolutely no clue what she was talking about. What so ever. And she would ramble about things to sound smart and then just get corrected on everything by Conway. She was a nighmare, but since you learned nothing her class was simple.
gets mad over stupid things. i had her for cult/lit and she's not nearly as cool as conway.
okay teacher not one of my favs. I think her class is fairly boring
I like mrs. curvin. she prob. one of my favorite teachers at shen right now. Shes one of the few teachers who brings intellectual ellements into the class discussions rather than following a core curriculum for the said subject. and if you participate in her class than it is pretty difficult to get a poor grade.
I really like her. She makes class discussions fun, and she doesn't grade that hard.
I hated her. She called my mom about my grades within in the first 2 weeks of school before I even knew what the grades were. Don't take Lit Classics with her.
she accused all the boys and half the girls of cheating... condescending, not helpful, boring, and, as has been said, grades are based on you, not your paper.
Stay on her good side. I have, and she has always been nice to me. She's quite intelligent and consequently has high work and behavioral standards.
drama queen. she calls parents over the smallest things. very sneaky.
She's umm shall we say "interesting"- while seemingly nice, she can become quite nasty, so stay on her good side.
