Tao knows his stuff. If you pay attention and work hard enough he's not that hard at all.
He was stronger than the ENTIRE MATH DEPARTMENT. Shame that the PC police got him fired.
Mr.Tao was really hard but he was one of the few math teachers that I actually felt like I was learning something, really sucks that he is gone but hopefully he'll get put in some other school or something cause he was really great even if he was really difficult.
So I had him for A plus preparing for the psat and sat he is one of the teachers that ACTUALLY TEACHES unlike some in my school.....ahem midwood ahem and now I feel sorry for techies that they lost a great teacher I hope he moves to midwood....
Tao was one of the best math teacher I've ever had if not the best, Mr. Tao genuinely wanted us to improve and learn more than just regent level work. It doesn't make sense that he is suspended just because 5 students reported him out of the hundreds of students he taught.
Mr. Tao and I never really saw eye to eye. We had our differences but he's one of the best teachers in Tech. Mr.Tao is one of the most honest and intelligent people I've ever met. I don't always agree with his teaching methods but he cares for his students. He wants his students to learn the material instead of just passing a class. I didn't even have him as a teacher in Tech but he would try his hardest to teach me even though i'm a very difficult person. He definitely deserves to stay in Tech.
Mr. Tao is the BEST teacher I have ever had. At first, his class was frustrating, but then I tried a little harder. I went to tutoring more often, put in more effort in my homework, and just studied more in general. I was able to raise my grade tremendously. It was the first time I felt confident of my abilities as a good student. It's the one class I really enjoyed and looked forward to everyday. Now it's gone. I wish I could bring him back, and I will do my best to do so.
If you want to learn math, there are few better teachers in the world. He will teach you more in a subject than many other teachers even know. He will challenge you to be better than just enough for a watered down standardized test. He will push you and ingrain in you a work ethic and the life lesson that you won't just be handed everything in life, and that if challenging yourself and overcoming is the most rewarding thing.
Mr. Tao is the most effective teacher I've ever had the privilege of being assigned to. He is extremely knowledgeable of what he teaches and his high workload only prepares you for what might come your way in the future. He may have quite an uncensored language, but what he offers us in mathematics very clearly outweighs his "problematic" dialogue.
The trials he puts us through are very well worth the mastery of the subject we have once we emerge from the dungeon that is his curriculum.
The problem isn't Mr. Tao... It's the Math department, and Principal Asher. This is unjustified, and he deserves to be in Tech more than Asher does.
March 2, 2016 is the day Tech lost one of the greatest teachers they will ever see. It's not right that this happened. He may have joked around, but he's never once been or done anything negative anyone has stated. He was probably the best math teacher I've had. He ACTUALLY taught us and challenged us to see us to our full potential. His class was memorable. #freetao2016
Honesty his test are hard but he is one of those teacher that teaches things that you will never learn any other class. Best math teacher .. BASICALLY WE WANT TAO BACK
GIVE ME BACK MY MATH TEACHER. He is the greatest influence in students. He pushes you to always try your best and put in the effort. He teaches you more then the regents asks for and prepares you for the SATs. He is one of the greatest teachers to walk through the doors of tech and does not deserve to leave those doors anytime soon.I am forever greatful to have him as my teacher and I still believe he will return. My class will continue fighting for him and will make him proud to have taught us.
GIVE ME BACK MR. TAO
#freetao2k16 bklyn tech lost a great teacher.
SAVE TAO, BEST TEACHER EVER
i am not even in his class, but i heard he really influences you to learn. plus, you got to consider that his student are in the middle of a unit, with no teacher to continue it. #freetao
Honestly one of the best teachers I've ever had. He' obviously knows a lot about math and he makes the class less rigid by joking around. He gives a lot of homework and his tests can be super hard but it's nothing that you can't ace if you put time and effort in and go to tutoring when you don't understand. He's extremely helpful when you need help. Now he's fired because some students reported him (probably cause they didn't like his tests) and tech lost a really great teacher.
I'd say he is the best math teacher
He's definitely an intelligent person, and knows what he's talking about. His tests may seem almost impossible, but they really aren't. He teaches in such a way that is so unlike other teachers, but it's quality information. He jokes around with kids, and uses the scenarios to help students understand the content. If you have him and pass his class, you'll pass the Regents with ease.
Mr.Tao's is a good geometry teacher although he can be tough and his tests are killer but hes a good teacher overall because of how demanding he is. might call you zoned school kids but i guess you can find him ONLY IN AMERICA
His tests are extremely hard and its hard to pass without the curve. He doesn't teach the stuff on the regents so when you take the regents you're pretty screwed. He teaches a lot of proofs and theorems and it's not really that helpful.
One of the things that made him really stand out in all of years of tech, was his ability to made me think as a student. Mr. Tao is a hard teacher, there's no question about it. But he does work hard and expects you to work equally as hard. If you don't understand, don't hesitate to ask or go to tutoring. If you don't, all you're going to do is playing catch up.
Math God in human form~
He was helpful, if you don't put in the work it's your own damn fault for failing. He would go out of his way to help you if you sought him out when you didn't get things. All you had to do was try and the class would be okay. Also his jokes- are just jokes.
He's a smart and understanding guy. Though he could be a little rough around the edges, Mr. Tao is harmless and means the best for his students. He jokes around with his students, NOT at them, so never take his teases seriously. He has high standards for proper education so do not slack off. Study. He's probably the most genuine teacher in Tech as long as you do your job as a student.
I currently have Mr. Tao as a Trig teacher for a tutoring center. He is very strict when it comes to mathematics, but he does know when to have fun! He does ask students if they need help, so don't be "shy" to ask questions. As he said "If you don't speak, I can't help you." Mr. Tao strictly base his lessons on a textbook, so you better READ THE BOOK!!!!!! Whenever he calls you to do a problem up on the board do it! Make sure you "...contribute to society."His enrichment problems can help you!
All the other ratings that are bad are all from students who are lazy, weak in mathematics, and just plain dumb. Tao is a GREAT teacher. His material is hard yes BUT he takes a lot of time to explain everything he teaches. He even asks the class if they are confused or have any questions. He also offers tutoring but the kids are too lazy to go to him in the morning. He is a great teacher, he knows exactly what he is doing, and as long as you can do most of the work, you will survive.
He is a great teacher, his tests are just very difficult and I don't think he has enough time to teach all the material so you would have to do a lot of the work and studying at home
Jackie Chan recommended him
never had him, never will
I think Mr.Tao is a great teacher, most people don't understand that what he is doing isn't what most teachers do because he actually teaches things above the regular level. He is just helping us get ready for college because this is what we need to do. Honestly, I think he's a great teacher.
Wow, just had him today. Worst experience ever. Got a freaking test tomorrow already gg
Loves calling out Ashers. Be prepared for lessons just about that.
Having him means having to endure a whole year of him criticizing you.
Mr.Tao is amazing. I kinda dont get why so many people were complaining about him but just do the homework and be one of the top 10 in class? that doesnt sound so hard. I have a 98 average in his class and math is not my fav subject. just work hard!
Mr. Tao is one of the best and most informative teachers that I ever had. He explains anything you ask him, even the theorems with step by step proofs - something that actually lets you understand them even more and their application in problems. The homeworks that are assigned help to develop ones understanding of the topic at hand and they also help to solve problems quicker and easier on the class tests. If you know your theorems, and are willing to work hard, the class will be fun.
He's such a hard teacher but he really does teach you a lot. He does have a tendency to go very fast since his standards are really high and the students that are in his class nowadays isn't living up it. Most of the students just stay quiet and doesn't ask any questions as they are "shy". But if you don't ask about what you don't understand, how will you be able to keep up?
i had tao freshman year for geometry. and damn, is he a tough teacher when you arent that good at math hes funny. i mean, he jokes a lot. has a ton of great personal stories. thing is, YOU HAVE TO DO THE HOMEWORK. he gives quite a bit of it. but you should definitely do it. i barely passed his class cause i never did the homework. if you dont get one thing, you will be lost for a long time. hes always there to help you, so speak up when you need it. and remember MEMORIZE THE THEOREMS!!!
I love tao! He teaches very clearly and it is very understandable. Stay in his class, itll be worth it. Pay attention in his class and do your homework to pass the test. DO NOT slack off. Stay in the top 10 of your class and you'll get 90 on every test. I got 100 on every test and half my hw was BSed. He goes beyond regents level to make sure you understand the topic. Overall a GREAT teacher. Cracks jokes to make his class enjoyable, and gives peoplennicknames haha. Id love to have him again!
Hard material, great teacher. He actually does proofs and teaches you everything you need to know. Anyone who pays attention
All in all despite the hard test Mr.Tao was the best teacher i ever had. He explained everything, and offered extra help during most lunch periods and after school. Hes pretty funny in class, yeah he'll come at you but doesn't care if you insult him right back. He goes way beyond teaching you want you need to know. When it comes down to it if you're failing by a little bit and he thinks you deserve to pass, he'll pass you. Hes fair and chill.
I have him for SAT prep. Downright funny guy but homework is a bit hard. Reasonable guy. Will make fun of you if you give him the chance though. Good thing he lets me retort. His problems are from the depths of hell but once the regents come up, I feel like god cruising down Easy Lane. Can't tell you anything about the tests because I don't have any from him but rumors have been less than easy. GL! You'll need it.
Obviously he is one of the most well known teachers in the school based solely on his reputation. He assigns a large amount of work but gives you a week to do it. He is a really good teacher who is challenging. If I had taken geometry as a sophomore his class would of been a little easier to understand. Easy 90 on regents if you have him. Regents material should be covered on the first day
Tao is a very inspiring teacher. I came into Tech not really caring about math but he showed me how logical and reasonable math is. I got really into math, doing his several hour long HW's everyday and trying to improve my own algebra throughout the year. All throughout the year I got 60's on the test. However, he curves based on the top ten scores. But by the end of the year, I got a 97 on his final, the highest in the class!!! He's even prepared me for trig, he gave me a bunch of trig books
I have mr tao for geometry and he is a very good teacher. I came into his class with crappy algebra and now close to the end of the year i feel like i mastered geometry and algebra this year all thanks to him. AHG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i have part 2 of his test tommorow.
Favorite teacher. He's very entertaining and crazy. He always makes you participate hands on so he can correct you, or he teaches you one on one at tutoring. He's kind of hard to pass, but you will learn a lot and pass the regents in mastery. He prepares you for everything and beyond. As long as you try, study theorems, and pay attention it is sure you'll pass. Also, unlike other teachers he doesn't baby you with easy problems. He makes sure you think and analyze different was to solve problems.
Mr Tao is a crazy teacher that it super hard but he is also prepares you for whatever might come your way and gives you a wake up call on how easy our regents are. If you have mister Tao be scared but be happy because he will probably fail you or u will fail very test but gives great stories n good lessons on life and math P.S. if you have him ask him about his mistresses or his trip to Africa lol
i have tao for intro calc. i never go through his math class without laughing. he talks a lot and makes weird analogies. yes, he does give rigorous work. he goes more in-depth than the other teachers. i feel like he doesnt go over enough problems in class. the hw probs are a lot harder and arent generally on the test. before you think about dropping, note that he does curve under the 10 best, ie w.o the curve i get a 60, w. a curve is 100, depending on your classmates' scores.
I had him for freshman algebra... I believed in his ideas and I knew he wished all the best for us.. as he screamed at the top of his lungs don't be like Bush and don't be like Britney. But he was too loud and I got scared and depressed and left my last period class very sad. He passed me out of kindness. He always called me sweet. Wish I were a better student.
I have Mr. Tao for geometry this year, and I BARELY passed the first term, with an average rounded to 65. He's an extremely difficult teacher, and is not for the weak hearted. He shows a burning passion for his subject and wants his students to excel in his course, which is probably not going to happen.
If you have excellent work ethics and DON'T PROCRASTINATE, you will pass. Know your theorems. Study hard and do all homework for the test curves, because without the curve you will fail.
As a student who had him for both geometry and pre-calculus, he is probably one of the best teachers. He teaches you to actually use your thinking abilities, as well as do your homework, or else you WILL suffer. In geometry, his style is very refined, and he knew exactly what he was doing. In pre-calculus, he seems a bit off, probably because his original plan was to just teach geometry. All in all, he's a good teacher. Just do your work and study. You'll be fine.
I have Mr. Tao for Pre-Calc. I heard stories that he was like a Chinese overlord with math and would **** your grade. However, this is not so. As long as you pay full attention in class and don't get distracted too often, you will do fine if not fantastic. I got a 90 first marking period and currently have a 99 for the 2nd marking period. He curves his tests generously so even if you fail, you can get ridiculously high grades. Simply focus and do your work and you will be fine. AND THINK.
Mr. Tao is an amazing teacher. Your math grade will fall deeply after the first marking period, it's definitely worth it. Unlike the other teachers, he actually teaches you "to think outside of the box." I am a former student of him and although, I didn't do well, I was still able to pass. He is very kind if you show him you're willing to learn and he doesn't believe grades are significant, since grades don't really determine everything. You will a hellish year, but you will actually l
He is extremely strict, with killer tests and time-consuming homework. I do actually learn in his class though, so I'm not complaining. One thing I've noticed is he strongly dislikes politics and is constantly telling us "No wonder the asians are beating you!" He's asian............
Mr.Tao is unmistakably one of the most difficult geometry teachers, if not the most difficult at tech. However, he prepares you to do phenomenally on the regents. He curves your tests, however, if you don't study, you'll probably fail WITH the curve. Lazy people like me- just do the homework, its time consuming, but surprisingly enough, its really helpful and makes the concepts a bit easier to understand.
I was once a student in his class. I only submit a rating to speak the truth about my teacher. He is a decent teacher but doesn't gain a lot of popularity due to his level of teaching math. You will do well in his class if you try hard. If you are one of those students that are lazy, then I suggest you should transfer to another teacher as soon as possible. ~Survivor
He's like a really hard teacher, despite the fact that you might fail his tests, you actually learn stuff and if you had him for geometry...good luck on the tests...regents, on the other hand is way too easy. So chances are, you'll get at least a 90 on the regents despite that you're failing his tests. Plus, he's way to passionate about his subject. Good luck to all those people that have him
He is such an easy teacher. His homework are so easy cuz all u gota do is copy it and bs some work down and u get credit. He also makes stupid threats that hes gona not give u a curve on the test that is not true. His tests are hard but with the curve its very easy to get 90 or above. Most of the students that he has are dumasses so the curve would not be high.
Tao's class was hard but I got a 98 on the geometry regents, goes to show how much he can teach. Just stay on his good side and you'll be okay.
he's a pretty hard teacher, but if you get him don't transfer out. it's the one math class where you'll actually learn something, even if your grades all year are in the 70/80's you'll do amazing on the regents. if you go to tutoring in the morning he'll love you, trust me. good luck noobs.
A teacher who has a passion in this field , very strict and gives homework that takes alot of time. His tests are very difficult if you didn't do hw. He rewards the hard working people and despises lazy people. He teaches well and give you resources. He does give curves but you'll still see your score a disaster if you didn't studied hard enough. He does rant about how bad the education system is bad. Nevertheless, an excellent, fair teacher to students who want to learn, goes well beyond Regent
I really appreciate all the things he tried to teach us. And although most would say he's not the typical teacher you would want but he used his heart to teach. Unlike other teachers who teach for the salary. He is a tough teacher but he means well and you learn a lot from his class.
He's a cool teacher. You gotta do all his homework to understand and pass. Very nice and has three periods in the day dedicated to tutoring. Unfortunately for me, I has classes all those periods.
Completely, utterly insane, and he will be the first to admit it. Pushes all of his students to the limit, and teaches MILES about regents level. Has three periods a day for tutoring, and is helpful.
At first i thought i knew a lot about mathematics, but once i stepped into his classroom i felt that i was only kidding myself. He was a great teacher and has push all his students to do their best!
His jokes are a distraction. Insults vasts amounts of people who are not like him. You will learn but at what cost? Doesn't seem to like the principal.
awesomest math teacher because you actually learn something. he looks out for you and wants you to be successful. if you study and do the hw, youll do good..he has a great personality too, and is nice
he is really strict even though he cracks corny jokes. He gives hard and good HWs. If u work hard and try he will pass you. -Larry Liu
you really cant find good teachers like him anymore. he gives a ton of homework and his tests are extremely hard, its only because he cares a lot about the students in tech. if you can get past him, you'll get to places in life :D
He's a cool teacher. Alot of work, but if you do your homework you'll do well.
very good teacher. One of the best math teachers i ever had. If you need help, he is there.
I have yet to fail one of Tao's tests. Im a freshman and at first I completely hated him, but when I saw how advanced I was in geometry compared to my friend's work in her class, I was grateful. I may have an 85 avg which is going down this marking period, but I surely feel as though I have learned a LOT considering it's just december
Not an easy teacher, at all, but he opens up a door leading to higher education far beyond what I've thought I've known.
a very strict teacher but you can learn a lot from him
If you're a lazy student, you'll really hate Mr. Tao's class. But if you're willing to ask for help when you need it, and do all the work, you'll be fine! mr. Tao is a the best math teacher i've ever had!
Awesome teacher. His problems are hard though, but thats the good thing since he teaches you more than all the other classes and you actually learn. Hes really funny and says weird stuff thats hilarious. Great teacher and dont listen to the rumors, cause he is hard, but he is a very good teacher.
you're screwed. but if you really show him your trying and just can't get the work because it's so hard he'll understand and try to help you.
he is a strict teacher, but he teaches hard math that you can't learn in other geometry classes
So hard, but just don't fall back. STUDY YOUR THEOREMS. LAUGH AT HIS SUGGESTIVE JOKES.
He's a very hard teacher and you really have to study for once. You get a lot of HW even though the class is based 100% on test scores (they're curved though; if you don't do the HW you won't get the curve) but in the end you learn a lot more than most other teachers you'll ever have.
His work is really tough and you'll probably struggle at first but trust me, he's a really cool guy. You should go to tutoring if possible, and study your theorums. He's tough, but he curves the tests and rewards effort.
it is hard work but when it comes time, it will be useful
You don't appreciate something until you lose it. This is my case with Tao. I take SAT courses now over the summer and I get 700 on math section every time. I'm definitely going to miss this guy. I'm gonna stalk him next year :D
