I only wish I hadn't taken Mr. Balkcom for granted when I was a student because his wisdom is valuable. He is an authentic philosopher king. Over a decade later I still learn from the copy of The Great Dialogues of Plato he gave to me as a gift of inspiration.
Mr balkcom is cool, some essays are difficult but it is a college level class so be prepared to present sat and read the books.
Mr. Balkcom was always a tough teacher but his methods are effective. I learned a great deal from him and improved my writing skills vastly. He helped me to improve my SAT scores enough to earn 100% Bright Future scholarship at FSU. So I'm extremely grateful for his very inspirational teaching.
Has inspired me in my teaching from teaching me so many years ago. He made some potentially boring writing lessons so much fun and so relevant!
The overall English Dept. strength stems from his amazing leadership. I'll never forget him or any of the other Eng teachers I had at STA. So glad Ms. Teesch picked his resume out of the pile.
He truly cares. Once he retires from STA, no one can ever fill his shoes. He has left his mark and legacy
He has the most soothing voice ever. Remeber-protect your jolly ranchers!!! Voc, SAT, poetry/prose were all such a blast with him. I miss him terribly. Never another man like him. Gracious, humble
I feel blessed to have studied under him NEVER USE TO BE His discussions are so stimulating I LOVE HIM Most influencial teacher i've ever had CHANGED MY LIFE I am an english major b/c of him
His class helped me survive my junior year when I disliked nearly all my other classes. I would do anything to just sit in on a class and just hear his voice again. He is so passionate about his sub
Best teach/prof I ever had, counting college. Incredibly smart man and a wonderful teacher and all around great guy.
funny guy and all...but you kind of have to teach yourself in the class...he will give you advise on what to correct...more kind of like a trial and error course
pretty much the most amazing person ever. yeah pretty much
An amazing teacher, but a terrible human being. I loved him anyway. He made me cry on the last day of school...That's how much I loved his class and will miss him terribly.
i would go back to high school just for mr balkcom's class
so far this year,he is the coolest. lookin forward to the rest of the year
I learned so much in his class. I love the way he relates things to real life!
Greatest teacher at Saint Thomas. Hands down. No Question. I <3 Balkcom.
V. brilliant man. He teaches (really knows!) great material, and will not add literati spin. He taught me how to write well. Moreover, he is witty and caring.
always lets u form ur own opinions about a book...funny guy...sometimes picky, but great teacher
balkcom is the man!!! can be a bit confusing though...
great teacher, even though he gave me an 89 semester avg. (ouch)! look for him at the elbo room.
