Shakespeare is a really fun class but make sure you worship that syllabus like its a bible because it is the one thing she continuously refers to. Also, make sure you know what week you're on because she will hardly ever tell you you nor confirm that so really on top of it. Oh and MLA is a huge deal when it comes to essays. And as a tip, take advantage of all extra credit work because it REALLY comes in handy once you start having to write the essays.
Mrs. Cordero is tough, but fair. It is based on how hard you work.
Ms.Cordero is truly one of the best teacher I've ever had. Those who complain about her must be lazy and unwilling to work. She treats everybody equally, don't give her any excuses or B.S because she can see right through you. Best teacher ever!
How would I describe her? Unpredictable and vague. I wish I could tell all my experiences in 500 characters. First off, follow all her directions like it is the federal law, or else you will be severely punished. I'm not talking about oh 1-2 points off. I'm talking about more than 20% off major assignments. Be on top of everything. Get on her good side early because she only gives out so many A's. Honestly, I don't think I became a better writer in the class, I just learned how to MLA format.
An excellent teacher who is willing to help her students and even students from other classes. Motivational and helpful. She understands her subject matter deeply and yet, is not condescending towards students. Instead, she gives students the opportunity to think and hypothesize, no matter if they are right or wrong. These qualities are what make the A teacher.
Although many people say she is so hard in teaching eng h, right now i have her for contemporary journalism and it is SO EASY. All you have to do is do the work and you're practically guaranteed an A , A at least.
If you have her for AP, she is funny and very laid-back. Her workload is manageable, but mandatory if you want a good grade. I wouldn't suggest taking a shortcut by not reading the book. She makes the class very fun and helps her students enjoy literature. If you have her for Soph H, good luck.
It depends on the class. I had her for Contemporary Journalism and she was awesome. She has this wicked sense of humor and she's nice to her kids. The work load wasn't that bad; it was tedious, but not hard. If you get her for Contemp. she gives unlimited extra credit and I got an A in her class. As for Eng. H., I'm not sure.
Ms. Cordero has got to be one of the best English teachers I have ever had. I have never enjoyed an English class as much as I have enjoyed hers. She's tough, but if you successfully manage your time and keep on top of your work, her class is an experience incomparable to other English classes.
Yes her class is difficult and yes there is a lot of work. But what did you expect? It's an honors class. If you can't handle it, then you're not ready for AP. She prepares you for AP and she knows what she is doing. She is unclear with directions sometimes, but it doesn't hurt to ask your classmates. She is not a horrible person, she just has a very unique personality. Her class is fun and you actually bond with your classmates because everyone in class understands what you're going through.
Very good teacher, she has improved my writing greatly, and I would not be the writer I am today without her teaching
After hearing all these horror stories about this class, I was scared for Ms. Cordero's Sophomore Honors English. But, it turns out, that she's gotten easier this year and not nearly as strict on MLA and all of that jazz. Plus, she's been nicer and more lenient on people. One class online actually has 5-10 A's, comparable to the other English Honors teachers. As long as you turn in your work and aren't careless, you should pass the class with either a B or an A grade. Good luck :)
Cordero holds students to an honors level, grading at a scale harder than most students do not have the ability to write to. As long as you keep on top of work you can pass the class with an A or B. T
All these people whining about Cordero don't realize that yes, the class is hard as hell, but negativity doesn't raise your grade, and once you look past the sleepless nights and murdered GPA, Cordero
Ms. Cordero's ratings will vary from person to person--though I do agree she is not the easiest teacher, it does not mean that she is the worst teacher. She IS trying to prepare her students for AP, a
Extremely unclear about assignments. I think she enjoys the idea of ripping up students' papers. She wonders why she has suicidal students in her class. Well yeah, she's probably the reason why. Her a
Honestly, she's not all that hard. Her assignments are vague, but she'll explain it to you if you just ask her after class or something. She's kinda biased when grading but just keep on top of your wo
She always emphasizes that she's not looking to stress the students and that she's just preparing them for AP classes. Well, she did not improve us in any way, and her class is extremely stressful.
her emotions determine her grading. takes out her anger on her students. but she can be nice.
The most important thing is to not get zeros on assignments. Turn everything in and don't forget turnitin for essays. She doesn't always give homework, but when she does, it usually takes a while.
She's strict but fair. She won't ever budge on her ideals, which can be intimidating. But she's a great English teacher. I like her, but I'm not sure if she likes me. She's the tough type. :)
Cool teacher but she can be vague about stuff sometimes. She's still really cool and nice though!
She knows her stuff, but her class can be difficult if you don't adjust quickly. She is VERY strict about the rules she sets. If you tread carefully, however, you can have a lot of fun in that class (and learn English as well, of course).
Cordero is one of those teachers who really knows her stuff. Although you may hear a lot of bad rumors about people failing and pulling all-nighters, remember that you earn your grade and manage time wisely! Never procrastinate! In the end, you'll be a better writer and better person, well prepared for AP land. Good luck! And some advice: Check with other periods for what happened during the day so you don't miss anything she thinks of during later periods. Copy all agendas!
The hardest thing about this class is that it leaves us guessing all the time. She's not really clear on all the assignments, but fortunately it does prepare us for the world because in the future, there will be no step by step directions on how to run things. Her class can be really fun especially during finals because she assigns presentations.
Those who say her class is easy must be freakin geniuses. It's not incredibly hard or easy, but I think it's manageable. Like some other people said she's not very clear with assignments, which may really be the hardest part about her class.
It is true that she is not an easy teacher. She's really strict about MLA rules and due dates. If you are slacking off, you will either fail or straighten out. That is all there is to it. At one point in time, I was asking for a lot of help from her and she refused to do so if she knows I can find the answers myself. Although many take this as bad thing, I like it because it prevents you from becoming too dependent on her.
Worked you really hard, but you improve fast in her class.
I love her! She's an amazing teacher and I've learned an incredible amount this year. Her class is really thought-provoking and she really gets you interested--even if you don't enjoy whatever you're reading she finds some part of it that makes a good discussion. She's strict on MLA and grading but it really helps you improve, and she's one of the smartest and nicest teachers I know. She will prepare you well for AP!!
not very clear on directions, not very helpful on assiggnments
SO HELPFUL. very clear and straightforward teacher, you want her for honors!
"You should know that by now." lololololz we hear that like everyday. so stressed out w/ othello essay
Great teacher! You'll miss her when you end her class. Don't expect her to answer all your questions, though. She'll say, "You should know that by now."
Her class is initially hard, but once you bond with your period and get the hang of things it gets easier. Sometimes she's not really clear on what she wants for homework, which leads to late-night freakouts over AIM. Procrastination is killer. You might not like her when she hands back essays, but she improves your writing and you have fun in class.
this is only the beginning of the year and so far, I like her! but i went through all of the other ratings, this is what i saw: "unlimited extra credit"...few years later..."what do you mean unlimited extra credit, we only get 100 points!" WELL GUESS WHAT GUYS, OUR YEAR ONLY GETS 25!!!!! i really enjoy her discussions and her opinions, her style is very cool, she's very fair in the treatment of her students, appears unbiased, and is (so far) a great teacher!
Very funny and cool. Hilarious. Has a pretty nice class, better than last year in contemporary journalism.
i think her class needs to be harder... WAY TOO easy
mscordero always writes on my essays, "Don't use contractions!" <LOL funny...
LOL IF YOU HAVE CORDERO FOR SOPHHONORS, HAVE LOTSA FUN. PRETTY MUCH PLAN TO SLEEP AT 4AM AND GET THE COFFEE READY NIGHTLY. PLAN TO SLEEP AT 1AM ON A GOOD NIGHT THOUGH. SERIOUSLY. BARELY ANY SLEEP WHATSOEVER.
I have to say, she's really hard and all, and she grades EXTREMELY harsh, but she really prepared me for AP and I love her for that. Really, really vague though. She tells you that you have an essay, but speaks really, really vaguely about the prompt. She could be much more articulate, and muchmuch more specific.
A great teacher, but you really need to get used to her style. Once you get that, you'll end up loving her. Max out on extra credit points - that's what (in my opinion) is key to getting an A. Her insights on books are really helpful and helped me understand the book much more than I did on my own. Whatever you do, don't procrastinate for Othello - I went about a week with very little sleep because of procrastination, since everything was due in a time span of a week.
I really did not like Ms. Cordero's class. She is not helpful and doesn't teach, just assigns. She does not clarify what she wants in an assignment, but expects it, even though you don't know what it is. She picks favorites and grades them easier. Her class is very annoying, because she assigns lots of projects weeks in advance, and expects you to finish them early, but she doesn't offer any more details on how to do it until the last week,
Ms. Cordero is a tough grader, but fair. She teaches you to always be on your toes and prepares you most definatley for AP English during your Junior Year. I had her and I can honestly say she was my favorite English. Despite my long nights up, the tears, the sweat, it was all worth it because you know you are a great writer at the end of the year. If you have Ms. Cordero you are very lucky!
gives a ton of extra credit, a total feminist, tough grader, steadfast/sometimes hard to keep up with, nice, fair, helpful. there is an unbiased error, decide for yourself if you like her.
the best teacher i have ever had. she expects her students to be the best--thats her teaching method really--and is the best prep for ap.
Sophomore Honors English. Doesn't teach much and leaves few comments on the paper when correcting it - not much feedback on your work. Grading system is vague and too few points allotted to assignments you spend the night on.
i had cordero last year and she literally was the only one at AHS that taught me how to write. she was very hard, but she taught her students about discipline and the need to pay attention to details.
Other than her mood swings, inconsistency, and arrogance ... her class is interesting. Never boring. She's a feminist, so becareful what you write in your essays. O yea, that also means MISTS OF AVALON. fun.
good teacher and nice feedback on writing but inconsistent. lots of mood swings and says different things to different classes. don't argue against her tho. pretty nice. LOTS OF ESSAYS
i was never bored in her class. she's tough, but she's fun. she will never admit she is wrong, so prepare to deal with that. good teacher overall.
So not hard. Great teacher cuz she'll tell you everything like it is. Very opinionated and fun. She's no dummy so don't BS your work. Basically a woman version of Sutliff.
Lots of work, but lots of learning. Hard-grader, yet a good teacher who works hard. Grades fast too.
Codero is an awesome teacher, yet if you are a perfectionist, BEWARE. SOmetimes, she can get very unorganized, and us(the poor students) must bear with it. FUN!
she's aight. she likes to talk about her hubby and her Richie
Good to her minions - I mean TA's. Always ready with a quick comeback or witty retort so if you can't take sarcasm then BEWAREEEE because she might make you cry
Very, very, very hard, but she teaches very well. Overall a good teacher. And her class is so fun too!
she's not THAT bad. she's pretty cool and she teaches so much stuff that you have to admit she's a really good teacher. and she gives you ec and extensions!
Very cool, very hard, very smart, very sarcastic, very kind.....
Always sarcastic, I like her class because of the extra credits, but a tough teacher like her teaches a lot so that's the good side.
I LOVE HER!! i have never had a harder teacher, but never learned so much. She is so cool and somewhat cynical, which is great.
way too many overlapping projects ... but you can almost always count on an extention. not the best teacher .. but pretty nice.
gotta love ms coredero...loved the projects...try hard, give it ur all,
I like her. She actually teached me something and you gotta love her sarcasm. Also, I learned a lot. Though she does have a lot of projects and essays.
If you couldn't make it through all the projects, then you probably would have failed AP English. If you gave it your best shot, you got the grade u deserved.
Pretty good teacher... i'm surprised i got an A in her class... lots of extra credit... had alot of fun in that class despite all the work...
oh well I passed the class.... going to AP.... and well.... if she sees this message she is going to analyze it for diction syntax ideas organization..... etc.
too much useless projects that doesnt prepare you for ap jr. english
too many projects...work isn't very though-provoking, simply time consuming...kind of degrades you...i tried to like her..i seriously did...she's kind of rude
Except lots and lots of projects. Essays aren't that bad as long as u have a smashingly brilliant thesis and do a good job proving it. Not too hard.
overly strict about convention, overlapping assignments...gotta love her sarcasm
great teacher, but devote more of your time for xtra credit..youll need it
arh, what do you guys mean unlimited ec?? we got a max of 100!
Through her strictness, she still connects with us. Her sarcasm is soo funny!
Very cool. EC helped alot. Strict but very willing to help
shes reeli hard. gotta do as much xtra credit as yoo can!
Even with unlimited extra credit, it was still a Hard class, with hard work
unlimited extra credit got me the easy A; some drawing
