Not entirely teacher's fault, but this course was not preparatory for future Computer Science classes. AP Computer Science class has devolved to the point where everything taught is basic syntax and meticulous detail. Exams were based solely on how well one can regurgitate minutia. Very little time spent on theoretical or abstract concepts; instead, the class is primarily focused on simplistic programming techniques. Helpful for becoming an IT worker, but does not help much in CS field.
Mr. Orlik is really smart but REALLY tough. I had her for 4H and I came from a regents geometry class. I had a really hard time keeping up and ended up getting discouraged because I felt like she went super fast and I was always 2 steps behind. By the time I understood a topic, we were 2 topics ahead already. Not her fault I guess, but I found her intimidating to ask questions. She's a great person though, really cares.
If you're a good (and by that I mean really good) student, you'll do fine in everything. I failed out of a math class with her because she was too fast. But I'm doing great in programming with her.
Basically told me that since I was in honors, if I didn't understand something the first time it was my own fault and I was on my own. Passed her class but barely.
Worst teacher ever, wasn't willing to help me. Did great on the regents but that was only because i taught myself EVERYTHING on my own.
I had her for computer programming. She didn't really teach us anything, just handed us packets. However she is more than willing to help you with any questions & explainations. She is nice and funny.
The best for 3H!! I'm acing 4H because I had Mrs Orlik last year!
Challenging but fair. If you do your hw and ask questions you'll do fine.
Mrs. Orlik is a wonderful programming teacher. Respects students and allows them to learn at their own pace, providing help when necessary. Very helpful and nice to students.
The best!! I have Math 8th period and it's the funnest part of my day. I actually look forward to class everyday.
This is the first summer in 3 yrs I didn't have to go to summer school for math because Ms O was a great teacher. Make sure you get her for Applied Math.
Mrs Orlik was the best teacher I ever had. She made math fun and entertaining! I laughed everyday in her class. And she really cares about her students.
Funny and great with students. She teaches well and is willing to explain. Makes learning fun and even puts up with the dorks in the class. BR,BK,DW,CC
Currently a Comm major at Cornell U. Orlik was an excellent calc teacher, fair grader, very upbeat, outgoing personality, cares about students.
I'm currently a CS major at RPI and Mrs. Orlik did a great job at preparing us for future CS classes. Many 5's on the AP exams as well as a great attitude. A+
