Very passionate teacher. Had her for sophomore global class, and she was very knowledgeable and liked the subject she was teaching. Also, she really cares about her students. She can get a little unreasonable sometimes, but its usually not a big deal. Overall one of the good teachers I've had at Stuy overall, which is rare.
Nice lady, remember her many years later. One of my more positive experiences with the humanities, even though I was much more motivated in math/science.
I had her for World History freshman year and Government senior year. Her outlook on how to run class was a difficult pill to swallow as she was always extremely strict on tardiness and did not accept late assignments, and there was rarely any legitimate excuse, no matter how real it was. Government was better as she seemed to get along with the upperclassmen more. However insane people might claim, she is an effective teacher and demands respect, as the majority of the time she deserves it.
Good Teacher! AP American Studies was great! I learned so much from her. She made US history easy and always had great activities. Her tests are pretty fair but homework is a bit long.
She's not easy, but that's a good thing. She's an awesome and totally reasonable and very, very helpful teacher. You'll learn a lot, but her class will also be one of your favorites if you're willing
She's really sweet if you show her respect, it's hard to get used to because many teachers normally don't care, but it would help in the longrun. tests are ok. participation is a must. projects BOOST.
Aahhh, her womens' history class was a delight!!! An amazing teacher who is funny and caring. Learned a lot, and had a great time too!
I really like Ms. Plafker. She's so relaxed and is okay with discussing things the way the class wants to. Funny and nice. Leads great lessons and gives nice things to talk about in groups. Good tests
ARE YOU GUYS LEGIT?! this is like one of my favorites classes. if you participate, and do the hw, she'll love you. 100 average babyy <3 WOOTTTT
She's pretty funny and her tests are fine. Good class overall
Don't believe the harsh comments.Participate in class. Do her homework. Pay attention in class and you'll learn a lot.Tests could be hard, so study. Group work every day and its fun. Overall good.
her lessons are so fun, and you learn a lot. the way she teaches history is through interpretation and makes you feel history rather than see it. i think she's great so far.
She finds one or two people to really really hate. And every single day, she'd shut them down in class. She knows the material, but skims it as if we knew it already. Tests are mediocre.
She's a really good teacher! The classroom environment is really friendly and she constantly reviews to make sure you don't forget. Her hw is tough, but good learning!
groupwork = most of the class. interesting approach imo. when she checks hw, it's ALL previous ones (around a week or two's worth), and doesn't accept late HWs. healthy amount of joking around tho.
tests are really hard, gives poor grades to those who don't participate a lot, moody, has favorites, but a really good teacher if you just want to learn
she was my favorite teacher at stuy. i learned so much and can still recall most of the lesson plans and ushistory from the class. she sets a model for what all stuy teachers should be. LOVE HER.
I don't know how i got into stuy really, but i got a 595 oh the SHSAT or whatever that test was, and i almost failed her class till she made me get in gear and pass with a 80. Congrats to her newborn.
Sometimes tempermental/strict but I think she does that to balance out the easy-going/funny Francis. The things she taught are still with me today. Extremely good at teaching, straightforward tests.
Very interesting lessons, tough tests. sad she's leaving us :(
She is a very dedicated, intelligent and caring teacher.
Easily one of the best teachers at stuyvesant. One can learn a lot from her; anyone willing to participate and do work will do well in her class.
Fairly easy tests and fairly demanding teacher. As long as you do your homework and arrive on time, you'll be fine. She's big on geography; I pretty much learned the world map except Africa.
shes cool, but talks way too much in class. tests are fairly easy
this is an amazing teacher if you're willing to actually learn
she's one of if not the best history teachers i have ever had. sure she gives a lot of work, but if you want to learn the material take her class. if not, go die.
One of the best teachers at Stuy. Somewhat unpredictable, yes, but also very creative and makes every lesson interesting and different. She has a personality, and she isnt afraid to show it.
Shes a pretty great teacher, we get through all the material quickly, even faster than other AP classes, which is helpful when reviewing. However, i have to agree, as a person she is mentally unstable and biased.
BEST history teacher I've ever had. i can honestly say i enjoyed every homework and class discussion. she really knows her stuff . no other teacher uses such great music and video clips to teach, she's so creative.
Friendly, appreciates hard work even if your test scores aren't great. tends to overreact, expects adult level work from us, yet doesn't respect us as she would adults. Still, doesn't deserve most of these negative comments.
very moody, but once you test the waters and stop annoying her (as a class), she'll be nice. she's a good teacher and a fair grader...counts participation a lot, which can be good (it was for me). also, VERY funny.
She's an average teacher. Basically competent, but unforunately emotionally unstable which can greatly effect the mood of the classroom. Try to get someone else if you have a weak stomach.
She teaches alright. Isn't really all that detailed. Can't really prepare you for the AP exam. Also, the worst aspect of a teacher: she has favorites.
Shes a nice teacher but her teaching isn't too good. Transfer out or drop her class.
Very hard teacher but if you take her American Honors class, her class is actually quite fun. Sure she flips out randomly but at least she can tell jokes unlike most stuy teachers.
ridiculously awful - mean person, yells and complains at class constantly, her idea of teaching is shouting random facts as fast as possibl, huge hw/long dum uninteresting project
dunno, i enjoyed her even though i never figured out how to get decent grades on her tests
Ms. Plafker is hard but she seems to really care if we learn. Good prep for college.
EVIL. pop quizes and pop hw checks. insane tests. expects us to read the newspaper everyday, and ends up testing us on one specific article. complains too much
Very unpredictable emotionally and insecure. Talks to much about her Ivy education when it's quite evident that many of her students rival her intellectually.
You get paid to teach, not to complain about your problems.
I concur, not linear at all. Her style lacks conherence. At times she is fine, but she really lacks teaching consistency.
this teacher was totally unprepared to teach any relevant material. She found it impossible to stick to a topic, her mind wandered all over the place. Forget it
She's a bit harsh on her grading system. Very hard tests. Lots, I mean, lots of homework. Makes you participate sometimes
Does not prompt the Ivy league status. Totally a turn off given her teaching. One should expect much better with an Ivy education.
very pompous and condescending - prides herself on her cornell origin and makes the class to hard for high school
she's the worst... she's so picky about everything! and she gives such low grades!!!
well her class is easy and we go over concepts in length i just wish we stuck to the topic more and less trailing off
ooyyy wel c but its tough no notes on board or use of txt book makes studyin impossible
although she was really hard in the beginning of the year, she got better. also, take advantage of her after-school study things. she gives you credit for it.
