She says she has these mandatory rules, but is very lenient when it comes to not having an understanding of the material.
I have had Ms. Mauk for 3 classes back in high school: Programming 2, Pre-calc, and AP Calc. Although some people might say that she is very tough on her students, her classes did prepare me for college really well. Right now, I'm a freshman taking Calc 3, and there are still some people in my class who don't understand simple algebra, trig, and derivatives. From all experience that I had in her classes, I can tell you exactly, "This is as good as it is going to get."
A one size fits all approach to instruction. Didn't build background first to insure mastery of prerequisites. Didn't use high yield strategies and best practices for students that lacked some background knowledge. You would either need a tutor or figure it out with the help of a good friend that had already mastered the content. No cooperative learning and no differentiation of instruction. You either got it the first time or you were out of luck.
Ms. Mauk is well not the best to put it simply. She is very intelligent and also very nice BUT she just can not teach....
not a good teacher....... i have her for pre cal and i have learned nothing in her class, i mean NOTHING
The people who've commented on here so far are probably freshmen, who want everything to be easy. I had Ms. Mauk for 3 out of 4 years at Musselman and I've always liked her. She does go off on tangents, but they're interesting, and she always teaches what needs to be taught that day. Yes, she's a little hard, but honestly, if you pay attention, you'll get it eventually. (Although I couldn't quite grasp Calculus.) In fact, I probably would've failed that class if she hadn't assigned an easy project.
I like her as a teacher, I mean she can be cool sometimes, but she can be very hard headed when it comes to some of the things she teaches. She's harsh to some kids that have struggles with her class and the ones who can barely do it, she makes it more difficult to pass her class. And she gets distracted a lot and talks about her history... did you know she makes romance novels? :\
Very hard teacher. She would be more sucessful if she taught at the collegiate level.
Ms. Mauk was a great teacher! She really helped me to understand math and trys very hard to make sure everyone understands.
