I think Ms. Sarna, although knowledgable, is not a good teacher. She grades your work on whether or not she agrees with your opinion and picks favorites. She treats us Honors students like babies. She spent a full 55 min class period explaining how to write on an index card (really?). She does agenda checks and babies us too much. Sarna's class is so boring. She tries to make things exciting, but its makes it worse. Also, when answering a question, she interrupts and doesn't let you continue.
You can't deny that Mrs. Sarna is very knowledgable and clearly is qualified to teach Honors Sophmore English. However, her teaching methods are questionable at best, her grading system is ridiculously subjective, and she at times forces her own political opinions on her students. I think that she prepared me adequately for AP Lang in 11th grade, but she did not make my 10th grade English experience enjoyable to say the least. I would ask to switch to Rosenhaft if I could take the course again.
Mrs. Sarna plays favorites, so try to get on her good side by agreeing with everything that she says. Unfortunately I didn't know this going in to her class and I stated my opinion too much. If you get her, try to switch out, and if you can't, good luck to you.
I used to love English, because I was a decent writer and would always get at least a 90 or above. Mrs. Sarna ruined English for me by grading me differently than other students who I wrote just as well as, if not better. On one assignment I received a 90, but it was graded by another English teacher. If Mrs. Sarna had graded it then I would have received a grade that was somewhere in the 80 range.
She is a good teacher but she is extremely unfair. Last year, I would receive anywhere from a 86-90 on any writing assignment while another student who writes very similar to me and should get similar grades would consistently get 95-100! This year, I am thankful that I had her, but last year I was miserable because of her harsh inconsistency.
There are two sides to Sarna : Mama Sarna and Mrs. Sarna. Mama Sarna is caring and compassionate, while Mrs. Sarna can give too much work and expects too much.
Sarna is a good teacher but is very annoying. She gives too much work per work and expects you to be an expertise at everything you do. She talks down to you as a child. I never really liked English, and I tried to like it this year, but she just ruined it. If you're in 8th grade or below reading this and get Sarna in the future, switch out ASAP.
Very unfair because she likes girls more than the boys.
Mrs. Sarna is one of the worst teachers you can have, she is extremely unfair when it comes to anything such as grades. She has favorites and talks to us as if we are 5. She is very illiterate and I don't understand how she teaches English.
She's a very smart lady and expects you to work hard in her class. Very strict in her teachings, but you end up learning a lot in her class.
i really didn't like her class when i was in it, but i'm now really thankful for her because she prepared me really well for mrs. morena's ap lang class. she's also very sweet once you strip away the strict side to her. people on here should cut her some slack because yeah, she's difficult and can be frustrating, but she is a really smart, strong woman.
I've never disliked a class as much as I do Mrs. Sarna's. She gives little to no direction in class and expects us to know what we're doing, expects work that is excruciatingly unfair in regards to time and deadlines, it takes her forever to grade and hand back assignments (i.e. 7 weeks), and grades very unfairly. I used to really enjoy analyzing books with my English teachers, but whenever she asks for our thoughts on books yet she'll reject most opinions that doesn't meet up with hers.
she littteraly made me hate english. I used to love it, but not any more. Also doesn't matter if your good in global, mess up the challenge projects and your down. sorry ap! hardest grader ever.
She's a great teacher, and really loves what she does.
Mrs. Sarna uses a voice, talking to her students, like she is speaking to a two-year old. She will fool you at first with her seemingly kind heart, but you soon find out that she is very strict and harsh.
Personally, i love sarna. She was awesome and so nice. She doesn't give that much work honestly. I'll admit very hard grader but the test aren't that bad.
hardest grader in the world. she says she will help but doesn't do much when you come to see her. her tests are also the worst too
she is a good teacher and i love her in the club she runs but she is a sticked grader
As a person, she's pretty cool. I think she's more into creative writing than straight prose. She's fun, but can get annoying.. She has favorites but really does try to help you succeed. Not sure why
She is the best teacher in the wholeeeeee entire world i don't no how any one doesnt like her she is so much fun and loves all of her students, and gives everyone a chance!!!
She is the best . I think i learn 90% about reading , grammar and writing with her she help me alooot with my english
she's the best english teacher i've ever had and she got me to really love writing
Although a nice woman, she can get on your nerves many times. She should try to just relate better to the students.
