An amazing and sweet person, but a terrifying and horrible teacher. Only have ten pages of notes from her class this entire year, and the rest are just packets that she gives out. The days when she tests our pronunciation are the worst. She never gives answers and expects you to figure it out yourself, and then gets irritated when you can't. Tests are extremely hard, but she does curve your final grade. She's also leaving the school, and it makes me sad but also a little happy.
Augustave is a funny person, she crackles you up sometimes. She has different teaching methods, but I must admit that it works, because I learned alot of French so far. MY pronunciation has improved dramatically because of her lecturing. Tests are hard, but report cards are curved alot.
People say that her class is "ok once you get used to it" and is a "sink or swim culture that encourages students." But it is important to realize that when the entire class sinks except for approx. 5 people she's a horrible teacher. She can't teach, I had her for 3 years and it was the same material repeated for 3 years. She never has a lesson planned, in the 3 years of having her she wrote on the board approx. 5 times. Just plain horrible...
I really feel bad about giving her a bad review, but I can't rate this woman positively. She certainly knows the language very well, and knows a lot. However, her teaching style revolves around yelling, picking on students, and choosing favorites. Not many students like her, and even the faculty dislike her (a guidance counselor said that the only thing she can do is lower people's grades). She teaches a lot, but not very effectively. Better off taking Spanish or Chinese and building from that.
if you are thinking of taking french at stuy, don't! even if you have a passion for the language (as i did) you will not learn anything from augustave, who is stuy's only french teacher. she will give you an unfair grade, you won't learn, and you will hate her class. this is not a personal matter, i can speak with confidence saying nobody in my current french class likes her.
She is not that bad as you think. She is funny in class and likes to joke around with a good sense of humor. Easy classwork, all you do is a packet. She does minimal teaching, and is vague sometimes. Her tests are impossible. She puts about 60% of things we actually learned on the test. The other 40% are personal questions that she asks you, and has nothing to do with what you learn in class or at home. The questions are not comprehensible, unless you have taken French for 5 years.
She picks on the weaker student so that they learn and doesnt pick any favorites. She uses social pressure as a learning tool quite well. In her class you sink or swim but if you sink all you get is yelling because she knows you can do better.
A bit intimidating at first, but you get used to it. She'll teach you French if you want to learn, and can actually be very sweet. Study a lot, participate in class, and be respectful.
she is not the ms. vollaro of foreign language that people make her out to be. speaking well is the key to success in her class, along with nightly studying. stay on her good side, and you'll find she
best ab calc teacher in the school, hands down.her tests are rough, but they prepare you really well for the ap, and if you're into math, she's for you - you will learn an incredible amount. a great
She is the best french teacher definitely. Sure, her tests are a bit tricky but she curves likes crazy on report cards, like 5-9 points at least. She cares so much and is a great native speaker. Just
she will only read your test answers if she likes you not clear about instructions she's going to yell at you a lot
if ur not naturally gifted in french...i would try my best to transfer to dr barrow before its too late lol. she screams a lot and refuses to give answers. she KINDA helps, coz she really wants u to l
not as bad as people make her out to be. she is going to yell at you in front of the class. be ready for that. stay on her good side. study like your life depends on it. after all, it kind of does
she yells alot so prepare to get yelled at. she's really scary too, but make sure you smile at her and no matter what try to get to her good side.
She doesn't teach at all in first year or second year french. She just sits in the corner and yells at people and has the student teacher teach. But she actually starts teaching in third year and ap
you just need to work hard. If you do, she will like you. Shes not as bad as other people say, ultimately, shes a nice woman
Horrible teacher, transfer out immediately if you can. She spends all day yelling at students for the slightest mistakes
Never got a test 65, participated in class, handed homework in on time, and even went to tutoring, and she still gave me a 65. She really likes picking on me!
one must get used to mme. augustave before they can start to love her :)
She knows french really well. She will help you if you don't understand something. I'll admit, her tests are insanely hard, so you have to study if you want to succeed. It's a fun class though!
Do her work or you'll be super lost in class and get yelled at. She's harsh in class, but really nice one on one at tutoring.
Her tests are hard, and she rarely teaches. Luckily, she gives a generous curve on the report card.
Don't screw around, because she can be brutal. She hardly teaches and you'll have to learn by yourself, but she doesn't give work that often (but when she does, it's a LOT).
She is a good teacher but has a serious napoleon complex. Her class is super boring too.
Crazy hard tests and never answers any questions. Makes you ask others. First month of class pretend to speak only spanish and don't pronounce a single word "frenchy' Then improve OD and 100s yours.
She is extremely tough and is going to drill the French into your brain every single day. She is very clear in her explanations and despite being a bit abbrasive is helpful to those willing to learn.
Expect us to already know everything, if we make mistakes gets annoyed and yells. Not a very helpful teacher, and can be intimidating. Very hard test. Do as she say if you want a semi-decent grade.
Even though the class average is a consistent 45, she doesn't seem to get the hint that it might not be our fault and it might ber her tests. And she doesn't teach, and she's not very helpful.
Impossible tests. Plays favorites. Gives 85 to everyone. But she's definately better than Barrow. I'm learning, I guess that's what counts...sort of.
She can get mean i agree, but i think that if you pay attention then she is actually very good. besides its a language. there's nothing new to be taught, practice makes perfect.
Leaves class right after the start bell so she can "find her glasses," (i.e. make up a "lesson plan" by choosing a bunch of exercises for us to do from the review book). Puts in less effort than any teacher I've yet to have,
very hard teacher who knows her stuff. You'll learn a lot in her class if you try, because she teaches well, but her tests are insanely hard, and there's a good amount of busy work. Might seem like a bad person, but is nice.
Do your work, and she is amazing. If you treat her with respect, she will be such a sweet woman. Put effort into this class and you will become fluent.
BY FAR THE WORST TEACHER AT STUY! Although she is smart herself and can speak a couple of languages she has no teaching skills. If you are a junior DO NOT TAKE AP with her unless you have to. THE QUINTESSENCE OF BAD Teacher
She is the worst French teacher at Stuy. Her tests are hard, most people get below 80 on tests. She shouts constantly at every little error made. She does not teach much and makes us work on problems everyday from the book.
Her tests-impossible to finish. Essay grades are better for people who use short sentances and randomly corrected. Shes very hard, but raises ur average by sooo much for report car
She was hard and mean to the regular French kids. She expects a lot, and sometimes it is overwhelming. I did a learn a lot though. I heard she's great with AP French though.
i think she's a really good teacher. i learned[and actually remembered] more stuff this one term than ten times what i learned all last year with lorenzo
After Ms. Lorenzo, she is a godsend! I am going to learn now! Hallelujah! She knows French. She doesn't tolerate stupidity. Wow.
people don't like her, because she doesn't tolerate bad pronunciation and things. however i learned the most in her french class out of the others
The class is confusing but the tests are actually not bad... she prepares you really well for the french AP, I didn't study outside class but still got a 4.
if you had lorenzo before her don't expect to do well. she's a little on the angry side and will never help you understand anything
does not help at all, makes u figure everything out urself, never gives answers, granding policy is very harsh
Outside of class, she's extremely nice. During class, it's entirelly different. She just doesn't have patience for stupidity. But she's not that bad.
