He is very knowledgable and I don't doubt that for a second. However, his contextualization quizzes are impossible, he rarely posts homework, and when he does he posts it at 9:00 at night or right before/right as class starts and has the balls to tell us that we had homework. Someone wrote a review that if you play games you'll fail, which is not true because some of the smartest kids game all class and get an A and some kids that pay attention and ask questions are failing. Horrible grader too.

As many others have mentioned already, Mr. Holmes is a BC High legend and a true MFO. While memorizing Shakespeare and Homer might not be the most fun, he never gives you anything that you can't handle. Generally the kids who complain about him the most are the kids who game all class and don't pay attention. If you listen, pay attention and don't play games during class, you will do fine. Declamation is an amazing experience. Come into his class with an open mind and you will do great!

Mr. Holmes is a BC High legend whether you want to admit it or not. This man is first off a great person, Man for Others and loves all his students with a passion. He is very knowledgable on some topics but alas everyone has their flaws. Holmesy has literally been stoned for the past 25 years and goes into the craziest tangents sometimes. His class is hard cause he teaches in a very odd and not extremely productive way, but after knowing him for awhile, you'll catch my drift.

English IV- Nice guy, bad teacher. Context quizzes are hard, and the class is very boring as nothing gets accomplished as he focuses on small, minute things. Do weekend correspondance (letter writing) as it really brings up your grade.

Gene is a pretty unique guy. His classes have little to no organization but he'll give you points just for listening to him read a poem. Great guy and enjoyed his class. Always an opportunity to either get other homework done or listen to his stories, which are pretty interesting.

This class is so obscure that I don't really know how to rate/describe it. Mr. Holmes is a great guy, and an excellent and kind-hearted human being, and respect him for that. HOWEVER, I could care less about how he thinks the letter "v" looks like big bird and more about not getting a failing grade on the final. We sing songs, and make ryhmes and its literally sesame street. Essentially, I have had to teach myself the entire course, which is not worth my time and money. ZERO notes, this is BAD.

He spends way to much time having us memorize random poems, difficult quizes, gives almost no homework, usually takes months to correct stuff, and barely goes over Caesar. Great guy, bad teacher. Late for class every day, comes in mumbling under his breath: "Men men men men, men men men men" and gives you only a few minutes for quizes, after which he makes you sing "Pass em up, pass em up p up up up, pile em high on a platter, uh shadooby, shattered shattered, uh, shadooby, shattered shattered"

i credit my interest in writing/literature more to eugene than anybody, but it does come at the expense of a ridiculously unorganized, out of control, sometimes completely pointless class.

Brilliant, but no organization or direction in class. Sometimes seems distant. Can be hilarious, with his frequent references to the 1960s era/events. Loves music and the Odyssey. Take his class to relax, and you'll leave thinking he's a great person.
