She's retired now, but she's one of the most memorable teachers I've had at this school. She's a little crazy at times, but very passionate about music.
I thought she was great. She wasn't popular because she dared to think that her music class is at least as important as AP Calculus and many students disagreed. She's passionate about the subject and I learned a whole lot about music, knowing virtually nothing at all before her class.
If she's ever mad at you, she's never actually mad - she's just disappointed.
If you study about 5-15 minutes everyday, you'll do well in her class and on her tests.
She can have an enormous temper at times, but provided you don't cause it, her class is really good or, at the very, VERY least, tolerable.
I don't think people that old should be allowed to teach. Each morning the boys must move the chairs and do the chores while the girls do nothing. Extremely grumpy. World will be a better place without her.
She doesn't know she's teaching highschool students. Everyday, she comes to school late. She cracks jokes and talks about things that will never be on the test, then yells at us when we laugh at her jokes and tells us we're wasting time and that we'll never finish the lesson in time for the test. She goes too fast, and hates it when we raise our hands and ask "dumb" questions (whatever happened to there's no such thing as a dumb question?). But her tests are ok, and she's really into the lesson.
One of the few teachers in stuy that legitimately care about the wellbeing of her students and actually tries to help them. An amazing teacher.
Ms. Hall is a lovely person. She's hilarious in chorus class, but can be a bit frustrating to listen to at other times. She's like a friend, really. She'll crack jokes in chorus, but she always needs her respect. Don't eat when you're singing. EVER. Don't sleep or read in her class. Just do normal class things. Except there is no notebook and you're singing about 75-80% of the time.
She's completely terrifying, and you'll either hate her or love her. Either way, she commands respect. While I wasn't fond of her, she was admittedly a good teacher. Her tests aren't that difficult either. Participate (she'll pick on you if you don't), do decently well on tests, and don't fool around, and you'll get a 93 for her class. Also, she can be funny sometimes.
Jesus this teacher is great. She knows when we have the time to have fun, and when we don't, and she has the power to get us on track extremely quickly for a chorus of ~100 people. Though she often picks out and embarrasse s certain students, that's usually because she can pick out what the kid is wrong at a glance. She's also funny. hall is lyfe.
Music App. isn't really that bad. It's just that Ms. Hall goes and gives us a and b and asks us what is c. She says we need to use your brains but asks us questions only she knows. she knows her subject and is overall a pretty good teacher.
She definitely has experience to teach Chorus. She was an international opera singer and she teaches well. She makes teaching fun and her reactions and expressions are silly and hilarious. She sometimes takes it a bit to seriously.
Ms. Hall is a good teacher. I have her for Music Appreciation. She gives us so much information however, that is because she knows the material really really well. She can teach. I remember her saying something like, "those who can't do, teach". And that's not her case because she has sang internationally, got so many experiences and she's passing on all that to us. I think it's such a great honor to have her because she knows so much. I feel bad for her because lately she had surgeries :/
Ms. Hall needs to understand that chorus lunch kids HATE the process, but they go through it to take her class. She just yelled at my friend for being a slow eater. Her class is an elective — she should feel good about herself that kids are willing to more or less drop lunch to take chorus; she seems to forget this.
She definitely favors her chorus more than her music appreciation class. Have her for chorus and she is so fun :D She is very knowledgeable and passionate about singing. If you're having a problem with your voice, she can help you out. Wasn't in her music appreciation class, but from what I've heard...-_-
If you have her for music appreciation, she is not pleasant. She shows up late for our class (sometimes misses half the period) and expects us to keep up with her when she runs late on the curriculum. She favors people, especially girls, and grades very unfairly. Basically, what matters is just your music final. Your grade could drop substantially depending on what you score on the music final. Teaching is not bad, but she often gets off topic and has to rush.
Ms. Hall knows a lot about music, but her class depends on how much she likes you. Her main priority will always be her chorus sections so having her for music appreciation was not a great experience. She went at a fast pace and was fairly strict on the kids. Wasn't very tolerate and a hard grader... because her tests are difficult compared to the things you learn in class.
I have mixed opinions on Ms. Hall. I respect her strict teaching style, but sometimes I think she goes off track and makes it hard to stay focus. I also don't like how she will ruin confidentiality and make personal information public. I also am not a big fan of her 10 minute breaks at the beginning of the class
She is hands down the best chorus teacher could ever have. Sure, she goes on fits of rage sometimes, but she's a very helpful person if you're having problems with your voice.
Ms.Hall is very strict, but she's also very smart, interesting, but also nice. Strict does no mean mean. Although I passed most of her tests without studying too hard, if you wan to get in the high 90
I had her last term, and she was honestly my favorite teacher. Although everybody calls her evil, I really don't think that she is, and if you get to know her, she's amazing. :)
I had her for music appreciation and i found her tests difficult, but if you study efficiently and effectively you will be fine ( i learned this the hard way). At first i did not like her class, howev
She really motivates you to do well, her classes are amazingly interesting and fun, and she gets the topics covered. She just excels at her job with knowledge and passion.
Had her for Chorus. I think she treats the kids in chorus differently from the kids in music appreciation
I had her for Music Appreciation. She's gone completely off the deep end but she really changed my whole outlook on music, because I used to hate any kind of music for some reason. I think she's bipol
Either she hates you or she loves you. I mean, her class isn't hard but it isn't too easy. She really does care about her students and overall, her class is really interesting :D
I sit through her music appreciation class everyday, even though I am not part of the class because I help out after chorus. She is such an amazing woman. You dont just learn about music, but about li
well she's a little strict and a bit mean sometimes..but she really can be fun/funny...and plus, its music so personally, not too big a deal if my grades aren't that amazing...but yeah she's okay
I miss Ms.Hall already ): She is such an interesting personnn! :D
She's scary in the music appreciation class but nice in chorus. I had both of her classes, and she was much harsher to her music appreciation class. Just stay out of her way and do well on her tests a
As long as you pay attention in class, you learn a lot and have some fun doing so. If you don't, though, you will be terribly behind and lose her respect, as well.
i have her for chorus. she's really demanding, but she's a nice person and everything she does is to help you and the chorus sound better. go miss hall!!
i have her for chorus. she's extremely nice to freshmen :). she jokes around a lot and she can be a really great person to talk to. but she expects us to try our hardest and wont accept anything lower
I have her for Chorus, and her eccentrities make it funny :D also gives some good instructions for singing.
She's a great singer, pop quizzes are annoying and she rushes but overall, she's fun to have. Be warned though, she is quite nutty at times, get on the wrong side, you are screwed.
if she decides she hates you, she shouts at you if you drop a pencil or look like you're not paying attention, which is actually pretty funny to watch for other students.
Hall is more of a traditional teacher... except that every other sentence she says it a joke. it is sometimes funny, but not always. take notes and follow her (messy) directions, and you'll pass.
Amazing singer and really clear on explaining. She knows her stuff! But you have to pay attention and remember to take notes!
Ms. Hall is an incredible teacher. She truly changed me and got me interested in music, especially opera. Extremely knowledgeable and can be hilarious! Worth having, though she's tough.
Truly the most amazing teacher I ever had. Amazing singer and conductor. She is so funny and chorus is always such a pleasure to be in.
she singles out kids to pick on, but other than that, shes really nice. mad hyped about her subject, and tries to make us hyped. lets us out late though.
if you have her for music appreciation, just find a way to do extremely well on the finals and your grade will be beautiful.
Her heart's in the right place. She only snaps when you're being disrespectful or misbehaving. Believe it or not, she has a sense of humor. Just make sure you show up for sectionals.
She was absent for about a month, and then expected the whole class to pass the final, we learned nothing. Constantly bullied a kid, who nobody knew what he had done wrong. Horrible teacher.
Ms. Hall is fair. She gets mad only when students aren't fully attentive and enthusiastic. Sometimes she gives out words of wisdom yet also isn't afraid of bluntly cracking jokes. A great personality.
Some would say she's not easy, but she's just being fair. This rating is really relative to most of the other teachers at the school
She's really funny, Chorus is always fun and entertaining and ditto.
She will teach you the real lessons in life and use her passion to show you what there is to love about music.
Like my friend, who will remain anonymous, I think she is a great teacher, though many others in my class would not agree. She does get quite sarcastic, and also cynical, but is a good teacher.
Without a doubt, she is one of the most amazing teachers you'll ever meet. How many real successful opera singers would go work as a teacher to inspire others? It's not like she can't sing anymore.
i like her. as long as you pay attention in music appreciation and laugh with her when she's funny (which she is a lot) then you'll enjoy her class, get a good grade, and LEARN! just study like crazy
Always lets us out of chorus late, so I am always late to my next class. Not understanding at all. Will hold a grudge indefinitely. Just try to stay quiet and unnoticed and you'll get your 97-100.
Well, i don't know how she is in music appreciation. But she is a very easy grader for chorus, obviously b/c she doesn't know all 250 kids. Just don't get caught fooling around and you're all set.
Ms. Hall has enriched my life with music. She is the most passionate teacher I've had to date (...and I'm 25 ^^)
she's one of the best teachers that i've ver had. she really knows her stuff and is just so darn cool. :)
Very passionate about her work, her students, and her music. Any high school music department would be very fortunate to have her. Go stuy!
never had her for a teacher but got in trouble with her for screaming into her classroom. very two-sided, very loud and angry at one moment, very nice at the next
She cares SOOOO much and is really nice, she can go from making you feel scared to death of her to making you uncomfortable because she is being too kind. You can tell she loves and is great at teaching. I am a huge fan!
The kids in chorus all say she's nice...I think she's terrifying. She comes into the band room and yells at winkel for not closing the door, and says we sound bad. Once she came in and complemented us and we were all amazed.
I learned so much from her. i thought she was one of the best teachers in stuyvesant. her music appreciation class was one of the few classes where i needed more than one notebook to take down notes. :D
despite everything (her craziness, mean-ness, bipolarness, etc), i love her. she cares a lot about what she does, more than any teacher at stuy probably.
She lectures us more on morals than music history. Her quizzes are hard but if the person next to you is nice, just pretend that you're swapping quizzes and grade your own. Do well on the final, otherwise you're doomed.
Ms. Hall is a very energetic teacher. She makes her tests impossible though and then she complains about how disappointed she is when she sees low grades. I'll be glad when I leave her class.
I had her for chorus, and I miss her so much. She's totally eccentric, but definitely the liveliest person from floors 1 - 10. Having her for 4 years was NOT ENOUGH. Her goofy laughs and strange jokes will be with me forever.
Best teacher i''ve ever had. she's hilarious & interesting. her tests are killer hard, but if you can write fast, listen well, and study hard, you'll do great. JUST BE CAREFUL NOT TO MESS UP IN CLASS. she sees everything.
A very efficient teacher. Can be scary at times though.
Very tough teacher but so inspiring! Got my child interested in classical music.
she said my voice was a nightmare. 'nuff said. BUT....she is freakin hilarious..and nice at times
Intimidating, but one of the best teachers I ever had.
I was in her music appreciation class and never in chorus and she still liked me. I love her. She is really passionate and she actually taught me classical music.
She really knows how to bring out the best of the chorus. Excellent musician, gets a little emotional at times.
lots of fun (in chorus). I don't know what she's like in music app
yea, hall is an amazing teacher, the secret to getting on her good side is to be in chorus. Since im in chorus, im probably biased cuz i think she's great
at first she was so intimidating.make sure you do evryting perfetly for her,she does not hestatein handing out 0s.By the terms end i learned somuch, she is brilliant, awesometeacher
MsHall=Amazing. Im in chorus and im a tenor so i'm biased but shes so cool. If your on her good side your in the clear, bad side she hates you, no side, youll be on a side soon.
She is one of the best teachers ever. Yes, she can be strict (mind you, I did not say mean), but you freshmen can learn a lot from her. She's also the greatest choral teacher.
Ms. Hall is actually really cool. I have her for chorus, which I hear is much better that music app., but in chorus she's great. Try to join if possible. WE NEED TENORS!!!!
Excellent chorus teacher...the best I've had. We sounded awesome at the concert. Except her moods are a bit.....extreme?
I'm in her chamber choir so I don't know how she acts with her music app. students, but she runs us like a boot camp; when she's in a good mood, we have fun. Don't be rude.
Ms. Hall is... um... well... interesting. She's a nut! A brilliant nut, but a nut all the same. She calls herself "The Monkey."
Very friendly teacher in and out of class. Professional singer at Lincoln Center. Downtime is before and after a performance when she does not speak much in class.
She is a great vocal teacher. She is also very talented!! She should deserve lots of awards.
I love her; she's my favorite teacher. She CAN be really hard and easily irritated, but I adore her class. She really opened up a whole new world of music to me
Great teacher. Be sure to pay attention in class and take good notes. Do not slack off and you'll succeed.
her bark is worse than her bite. yells a lot but tries to help.
the first words she ever said to me were "you! freshman! shut up, you're screaming and you sound terrible and you're going to destroy my chorus!" very scary
She scares me. Beware of her pop quiz. But the tests are not bad. And take notes!
she's a great choral director, but sometimes she's very mean, she shouts a lot and she's intimidating; but all in all she's very cool- just don't break rules
she made me cry! if you don't talk in class, she won't pick on you. but if you remain too invisible, she'll start complaining why you never talk.
