He is a great understandable teacher. If you have any issues with absence and missing a test he will try to his fullest to have a makeup for you. He knows a lot about chemistry but he does not really know how to teach, if you have a question about chemistry he can answer it quickly with no issues. He is nice to you and if you don't make trouble expect not much problems, just expect to study extra for the regents by buying a Barron's regents book. P.S his life stories are weird and funny.
A great scientist, but a horrible teacher.
He's very knowledgeable in chemistry. However, he cannot teach. Transfer out if you can; his class is not the best one to prep for the regents.
I hate this man with a passion. He is honestly the worst teacher I've ever had. He's extremely rude and doesnt listen if you have a problem. He's unreasonable and boring. He taught the same lesson 3 days in a row because he doesnt have a lesson plan. Good luck.
Well, I wouldn't say that Dr. Walcott's class was that great--he has a tendency to generalize unclearly and also to present anything that is not either directly related to the material being taught (although, to his credit, some of the work so assigned can be useful--I remember that he once assigned us a reading of his experimental demonstration of Rutherford's gold foil experiment that allowed us to visualize what Rutherford saw in thus advancing his conception of the atomic nucleus).
A very straight forward teacher, basically meaning, he won't attempt to make you laugh. You listening, is about all you need to do in his class. His tests seem fairly easy, you could describe him as "boring", but that's ok, because he's still extremely smart. Not the most effective teacher ever, but you will live with his teaching skills if you pay attention...
Dr. Walcott actually knows a lot about chemistry. But the only problem is that he needs to make a written lesson plan so he knows what he is doing and write down useful notes on the board. He talks a lot of useful stuff but doesn't put it on the board! The class is easy and you can get a 90 guaranteed even if you don't know anything. The grades can help you boost your average if you're failing in other classes BUT IF YOU WANT TO PASS THE REGENTS THEN TRANSFER IMMEDIATELY.
As smart and noticed as he is, THIS MAN DOES NOT TEACH. He doesn't prepare the students. He may seem easy by giving take-home tests, but he is impossible to learn from for the Regents. Learn how to teach!!!
No. Just no. He gives random grades. Can't understand anything he teaches. Has no lesson plan at all. Prepare for the most useless and completely boring class ever. You can't sleep or talk or anything.
Unfortunately, Dr. Walcott, while a teacher who is generally good at least in explicating the basics, doesn't however do to well in ingraining the fundamental knowledge into his students or immersing them in the sea of little details and facts that can't be covered in only the basic framework that he offers. Unfortunately, the student is constantly distracted by his stories, little sessions, research projects that are irrelevant, and so forth, and not with much relevant/well-taught lessons.
this guy is terrible and i don't know one student who actually learns from him. if you ask for help he just tells you to ask other students but they don't understand what he says either. also even if you learn everything from the textbook you can't have fun in class. anytime he notices that someone is happy he tries to ruin it. and last but not least he makes sit through his stories/ lies and he doesn't let you put your head down. overall he knows chemistry but has no clue how to teach it.
Dr. Walcott is an interesting case. He does go over the major points of chemistry, covering the basics and going further--the interaction of water molecules, half life, and so forth, but his lessons often tend to be vapid enough to be supplanted by the material in the review book (and are even less helpful in terms of tests).
He does, unlike other teachers, try to help his students, especially in tutoring or in giving worksheets and silly group quizzes that do allow a slim review of the currciu
Dr.Walcott is such a bad teacher. A Monotonous voice that bores three fourths of my class....... His tests or exams are also very unfair in my opinion, Part A being a 30 question multiple choice and Part B next day being 7 or 10 questions, where each question is worth 10 pts or 7 pts depending on how many questions he gives you. Part B is all short answer and often he gives quizzes that are just unfair where most of my class would fail it. Bad At Chemistry? Good Luck, better transfer out.
Dr. Walcott is very knowledgeable in the field of Chemistry and has been recognized internationally, even if he is a Vet (i never figured the correlation out), but his class is very unusual. He teaches in a different manner, a more old school, abstract fashion that tries to follow the curriculum. However, his class can get very boring and you can find yourself daydreaming into space. As long as you pay attention, and reinforce the lessons with self studying, you can do well on the regents.
If you get him for lab he is the easiest lab teacher you don't do anything and he gives you 90s on all of them.
Dr. Walcott is very gifted as a chemist, but he simply doesn't know how to explain things, which is why his class is such a bad experience. He belongs in a chemistry lab in the desert somewhere, and not a high school in a big city.
BORING AS HELL!!!!! His voice is so dull and boring. He knows his stuff though. To pass, do all your work, be on task and follow ALL lab safety procedures. He drops your grade really low for breaking stuff, unsafe practices and even playing around a bit when you're done. Be like me and take his class seriously. You get to burn stuff all the time so paying attention should be the easiest thing ever.
you can tell he knows his stuff..how can u put this nicely though? SOME PEOPLE JUST ARENT MEANT TO TEACH!..its a shame he does. cant even understand what he says, he has no teaching skills at all, cant even stay awake in his class, have him first thing in the morning too. Just transfer out if u can.
Dr. Walcott is EXTREMELY smart and knows his stuff very well and tho he does try to teach, it's just sad see the guy teach because no one understands really, unless you're super gifted, he should have been a chemist. Personally, I didn't understand ANYTHING in Chemistry and got a sad score of 70something on the regents, but he gave a 99 for the last marking period. doesn't know how to grade. study on your own and go to tutoring, gives you answers for the tests sometimes. HW once a week, collects
He is a terrible teacher, not only is he rude and tells bs stories all the time, his execpts us to be AP students. He gives tests harder than AP tests. If you have him Good luck stayingn awake
He can not teach for his life. I give every teacher a chance, a few, but he honestly can not teach if his life depended on it. I have the AP of the Chemistry dept. be our sub when he left for a week (MR.EVANGELIST) and i learned more
Cool teacher. He cares about his students. He tries to answer your questions to the best of his ability. However, his tests are difficult, and his classes can sometimes be boring.. If you have him in the morning, drink your coffee AFTER his class. You'll be fine.
He is okay really. His test are on things you never learned though, he like to show off and he speaks in a monotonous voice. He also has al sorts of rules like "You can't cross your legs in class" He is nice though and gives you good grades if you contribute in class daily.
dr walcott isn't bad. he actually CARES about us students which is why he does those 5min life lesson things in class (which r pretty fun yet serious) hes a really nice guy and all u needa do is listen to him in class and ask questions. :)
im in love with mr wall cott he is the neatest man on earth .. for his test just listen to everything says and you with get over a 85
Dr. Walcott is a good teacher. All you have to do is pay extreme attention, take good notes and study for the tests. But he is extremely unfair. I have to say that I'm one of the best behaved kids in his class. But one day he caught me doing homework in class and took TEN POINTS off my average. He's way too strict, you have to sit in a certain way or he yells at you. Overall, he's a smart guy, but should change some of his policies.
He is really smart, except he can't teach. He's okay as a teacher once you get use to him, but when it comes to regents it's a no-go
Walcott is a very easy teacher. Pay attention and you will get 90 without doing anything else. He is EXTREMELY helpful in his tutoring periods and much more easy going. He does have some issues with clarity due to his monotonous voice at times but it's no biggie. Not a lot of people like him, but he's an extremely smart man!
He's smart and all, but he can't teach. His voice just makes you want to sleep.
So at first i hated this teacher, his voice put me to sleep so i couldn't even pay attention in class. But now that i got used to having him as a teacher he's not that bad. just mad unclear, the guy is definitely a genius and he's better than half the other chemistry teachers. So to wrap it up smart as hell, mad unclear and fails no one unless you get him mad tight at you. he's a pretty good teacher. better than a lot of teachers at tech
Hmm.. what to say about walcott? He is a difficult teacher, plain and simple in the quintessential definition. He grades extremely strangely as I got higher grades for exams than this other kid who i helped with his poor classwork everyday and he got a 95 whilst i got a 75 for the final grade. Needless to say he murdered my whole average without probable cause. For the not-so bright people he is still easy to pass, as he fails virtually no one.
I have him for lab, so he gives easy grades, but he is an awful teacher. He really is a smart man, and he knows what he'st alking about, but his montonous voice and teaching style just aren't up to par. I don't really learn anything.
Probably is well-versed in chemistry, however is incapable of teaching. Monotonous voice and boring demeanor do help you catch up on sleep in class though.
Decent teacher, but kinda talks in a "monotone" and pretty unfair at times
he is a okay teacher, pay attention in class and for test just study from the review book
walcott is fine. not the best teacher but he isnt that bad at teaching. just study and try hard. btw. a great storyteller
borings, talks in a monotone, has stuff on tests we didnt even learn
he is a really smart person as well as an interesting storyteller, but really not made out for a teacher.
He is not a bad teacher. If you pay ENOUGH attention and read the Orange book, it should make sense. Once I started paying attention, I passed TWICE already. If I can do it you can too.
He really does give you a grade on how much he likes you. Or if he doesn't know you at all, you also get a high grade. He knows alot of stuff, but he can't teach it well.
hes my prefect teacher.he forgets to take report cards and such things to give out to us in his mailbox. and it takes him 30 out of 40 minutes to give out metrocards. than he quickly does the rest.
a very good teacher you just have to read the assignments and study n try to learn,
He is a horrible teacher. Gives you good grades only if he likes you. IS very unorganized and does not explain the material clearly. Thinks to high of himself as well.
Dr. Walcott is a horrendous teacher. After having him then going to Ms. Baranowski, I was horrified by the difference between doin real work and what we did in his class.
try readin da hw assignements and you wouldn't be failing , all the people that fail don't read the pages for hw
Learned absolutely nothing from him. Had to study for the chem regents on my own. Only gives you a high grade if he likes you.
Walcott is a nice person and definitely knows his stuff, but he is such a terrible, HORRIBLE teacher. No one in my class learned anything from him and complained about him every day. He can't teach.
He is a smart man, but is not right for the teaching environment. He makes many mistakes and needs to be corrected often. He is a pretty easy grader, but I rather get lower grades and be taught well than get high grades and learn only basic material.
He is a very intelligent person and a great teacher but grades low. He makes getting a passing score seem like a 90 and only gives high grades to people that participate. I think he should make it easier to get higher grades, I did most of the work but I only got a 60...
yeah well he is a intelligent scientist, and he his a good teacher if u listen to him
Point blank, he's a good teacher. It's easy to learn in his class, he keeps you up with fun stories and usually tells you the point of his lessons. You dont belong in Brooklyn Tech if you fail his classes.
Dr. Walcott is a great scientest. Teacher- i'm not so sure. when he was absent we had the head of science. now that guy got it through our heads. Dr. Walcott is a good guy, he just teaches... differently. His experiments are great however.
I wasnt able to learn a lot from him. He is an easy grader but if you have him for the whole year, good luck studying for the Chem Regents.
I am terrified i am going to fail the first term i came into the class a few days late because of program snafu and i had a test the first day and i got a zero. And i get a bad notebook check grade just because i'm kind of a slob. I don't think I should be penalized for that. Well, maybe a little. I do not understand at all and every time I approach him for help he says ask one of the students and when I got second degree burns in lab because some stupidhead pushed me he said it was all my own fault! :(
Nice guy, but cant teach. I slept in this guy's class everyday, never did the hw, and failed all his tests. He gave me a 97 the first marking period. On the final marking period, he gave me a 90 and wrote "has the ability to do better."
I will never forget how on the first day he said "you will need your lab manuel and . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . the goggles"
didn't pass the regents cuz of this guy. 2 terms of him really lays it onto u. and by the way, his stories aren't real. just to grab ur attention.;p
awesome EC opportunities. very strict about doing someone elses wrk in his class. wordy. TOO smart! When asked a question, he tells us a book. ;)
really easily persuaded. "please tell us the story! please let us throw the balloon around a little more!, please let us see the snow, pull down the shades!"
Has the funniest stories that help get us side tracked all the time. Experiments are just great and entertaining.
very well informed in all his subjects but can get carried away sometimes. Very strict on the "no reading other materials in my class" rule! but good teach
He's an awesum teach. I got like 90s and 100s on his quizes and tests.
HE smart, and fun but hard to understand, great teacher though
it might be a little boring sumtimes but yoo...he mad nice and much betta than othaz
mann this guy ish mad smart but he's a really bad teacher. he gotta b a little more strict. seriously though he gibs every1 90 somethin... jux for sittin there
nice and he explains thing cleary except he talks waaaay too slow and is borrrrring . i literally feel asleep in his class
dont know what these people are talking about, great teacher, i learned and had fun
realli easy teacher!! easy 95. his stories r a little off... dun think theyr true. i hear his classes r making a blow gun.
He knows chem, but he's not a good teacher because he's to boring and monotone.
good and cool teacher but always puts things on tests that we did not learn yet
easy grader but stuff he puts on the test, we never learn.
He can't teach, he puts things on the test that he doesn't even teach
One of the best Chem teachers. Has many interesting stories.
Its really easy to get a good grade, sometimes class is boring but hes mad cool
a nice teacher. should give better grades like above 95's. :D. ~splat.
Not a bad teacher but it's too easy too fall asleep in his class
he is soo mad easy. i got a 99 on the report card and im happy
The PERFECT TEACHER at Brooklyn Tech. An excellent teacher and an easy grader.
Doesn't teach much, but that's probably cuz we won't stop talking.
