Had him for AP Java. He never had an Aim on the board. He didn't teach the fundamentals of Java or go step by step like Mr.Goldstein did. He was discouraging and offensive to students in that he constantly stated that if you weren't doing well in his class, programming is not for you and you should switch majors. He failed to realize the diverse skill levels in his class and attributed the success of certain students to his own teaching when in fact those students had been coding for years.
I just graduated from college; I had Ivan Turner for AP Java as an MSI major in 2007. His class is one of the few I remember from HS; he was funny, he didn't let us off easy, and he taught really, really well. Some concepts were HARD, but I still remember and understand them now. He really instilled an appreciation for Java for me, and it's a skill that goes on my resume to this day - I've kept brushing up, of course! Stick with this guy; his legacy really lasts.
~ Max P, Class of 2008
i have him for geo this year and i hate him as a teacher i feel like he cant really teach but hes nice and funny he always makes fun of his students but he doesnt mean it so dont let it get to you hie tests are very easy and i dont study ever he gives quizs every friday if you fail those as long as you do hw and doo well on tests you can pass i love him cuz i have a 98 in his class right now :DDDD and i sleep in his class and he never see me but his class is fun sometimes
great teacher, funny nd everything. just study for his tests
I didn't like his class this year. Ne doesn't write notes on the board that much and I just can't learn that way. I least enjoyed his class in tech this year.
i dont learn s**t from his math teacher. but he mad easy and im failing all his math test.
he let me eat in class and his teasing was really funny. He explained everything very well, if you try in that classe, you will suceed
This man needs to learn his math seriously. His work can be pretty easy, but only because he doesn't completely understand it himself. He has a funny personality, otherwise.
had him for trig this term. he was so awesome! (even though he would tease me sometimes!) i love how he's a math teacher that questions his own arithmetic ability and how he questions the plural of parabola constantly. he's also really funny and can really get himself into awkward situations. all in all, i wish he was going to be my teacher next term, but i'm not, cause of some comp sci class he gotta teach. i nearly cried the last day of the term. oh, and hw doesn't count and tests are 100%. <3
Although he can sometimes be comically rude to his students, he proves that he cares for them greatly. Over the course of his Web Design class, he was very clear as to what he wanted from every one of us on every single project. If we requested a project description, he would create one for us and give us class time to complete it, during which he would help those of us in need. He can be fun at times, but when he gets annoyed it's best to not joke around too much. He gives second chances often.
He's a really popular teacher. I can tell he really has a passion for what he teaches. He refuses to let me occasionally sleep during his class even though I have him for 2nd and 3rd period. He is one of my favorite teachers at Tech. If you are a junior who has Java with him, stop complaining and just go study. C++ is going to be a lot harder but it will all pay off once you start doing game dev using directx. Hes an awesome teacher. Overall, I'd give him a 9.5/10 (for refusing to let me sleep).
Good teacher, but AP Java proved too much for me. He gave me a second chance to pick up my grade for which I remain grateful for.
Great teacher because he teaches me more than Connell. Lets you suggest your grade which is generous for a teacher. Knows how to take it easy.
Doesn't know what hes talking about. Hes a bad programmer. Every year the kids end up being better than him.
Mr.Turner is a nice teacher. Fails a lot of students, but overall hes a good teacher. The material is tough, but i get good grades. Lots of not very hard working students wanna program and guess what they don't learn it. He may go ofcourse in A+ a bit, but hes a good teacher
this guy is the best teacher i have this year. sometimes we spend a whole period playing counterstrike. excellent comp sci + java teacher. hes very funny. unlike all my other classes, his class is interesting and actually fun. turner goes of on tangents an average of 5 times every period for an average of 5 min each. dont worry if you get a 5% out of 100% on your java test, you'll still pass, just dont show him that you're lazy. best teacher ever.
You will fail if you are lazy.He is very funny. He sucks at teaching Java. In Comp Sci, he goes into too much detail. His Comp Sci tests are stupid and too detailed. Sucks at CounterStrike + Half Life
I had him for Sequential II (which is Math B now) back in 2002. You can't be lazy and expect to do well. I wonder if he still teaches math or just Comp Sci these days.
really bad at teaching its true if you fall behind you fail he is funny sometimes but it doesnt help. if your lazy dont take him you will fail
he was way better than any other CS teacher i had. got me a 4 on the APs too.
He's a decent teacher. His class is not bad but I wish he reviewed the AP exam with us more. Being lazy is bound to get behind. Only a handful of students are able to stay on track.
Turner is a teacher who makes you sink or swim. There is no middle ground. You can get a 65 or a 90+. The teaching isnt that great, but he gets the job done if you are truly interested. There is no better solution to learning Java though in Tech, so you might as well take his course. Just Don't Be Lazy
his teaching is ehhh...don't even know if i'll do well on the ap test.
Turner is very cool. He is a great teacher. Sometimes it's not clear, but then he explains again if you want him to. He hates lazy people, and i don't blame him. If you try, and he sees that you try, you will get a good grade.
Like some people said, he can't teach. If you're behind, that's where you'll stay. He's not too bad of a person though, but he does sometimes give the class an attitude. HATES lazy people, picks favorites, but is overall fair to people that do their work.
MAD COOL! At least I learned in his class, and hey even when I'm not in his class anymore he still helps.
Learn C++, while enjoying the class, as good as it gets.
Wished I had him again. Wayyy better than Rodriguez.
very kool teacher does alot to help his students fun class
Hez mad nice and very helpful. He even tutored us out of his own time for free.
Fair, but not the greatest math teacher in the world
Mr. Turner was a great C++ teacher and I only wish I could have him again
It's C++, how much more confusing can you get?? He tried his best thoug
