One of the top band directors in Texas.
He's a good person but a terrible director. He has no respect for your other obligations like other classes or your job. He'll make you want to quit band 2 weeks into marching band. If you're late, he'll lecture you for 5 min about why that's "holding back the group" or say your behavior is "cancerous". When he blows off sectionals or passoffs (VERY often), he won't apologize. I loved band, I was in his top band for both years, and I was a leader. I know him well enough to make these claims.
As a firm believer that marching band is one of the most sophisticated forms of musical performance, I firmly believe that James Hannah is the most intelligent, cultured teacher I have had the fortune to meet. In fact, his lectures have often left me speechless and indescribably moved to tears. Additionally, he does not tolerate passive aggressive mediocrity and believes that many things in life are nonnegotiable. He also possesses a great deal of common sense and rarely makes grammar errors.
Seriously tho, I wrote the previous review and what I really wanted to say is that Mr. Hannah is a absolutely terrible marching band teacher, however he can teach concert band, but is a bit too serious. In conclusion, Day to day, show me what that looks like right quickly, and he does not like passive aggressive mediocrity.
If you went to every corner of the world, searching for the best thing in every country and put it all in a bag, it will fail in comparison of Mr. James Hannah, director of bands. He taught me the most valuable thing I will ever know and that is day to day.
James likes to be very specific with his instructions. He takes maturity and class very seriously. He LOVES to spend large amounts of time on warm ups. He also adores rehearsing one set multiple times before saying that time is running out. With all this said however, James is an extremely good man. His laugh is contagious and he provides helpful criticism and motivating speeches that have almost brought me to tears. I hope to enjoy my last year of high school with my favorite band director <3
I will never forget every word in every sentence being so heart felt and motivational! One jazz band rehearsal at Garland High School and he would make you feel like you were ready to play drumset for the one o'clock lab band at UNT! I have learned very important life lessons from Mr. Hannah as an instructor and a player that have stuck with me since I graduated 24 years ago! Thank You Mr. Hannah for every person that you have ever shared your wisdom from life's lessons with and impacted 4 ever!
Nicest man around but extremely high expectations. If you have the willpower, he'll make you great.
a VERY kind man. One teacher who really cares about his kids. However, he sometimes takes band and "looking classy" a bit too seriously, taking away some of the fun.
I've known him for a long time now and he is such a nice and funny person. If there is something wrong he is on it(plane tickets coming back home from Orlando)Marching is tiring.:(
if you can form your own opinions, chances are you'll like him. most of the people that don't like him only dislike him because everyone else says they do. good teacher and person
he's... alright i guess. funny at times, but when we dont do so well in practice either marching or concert... its just a pain... yes im gonna keep u outside for another 2 hours if i have to i dont care if the temp is below freezing
Very nice, sincere person. Don't see how anyone who really wanted to be in this class could dislike him. Pride speeches can get a little ridiculous.
Mr. Hannah is probably the best band director I have ever had. He really cares about his students and has a great passion for teaching music.
I know a lot of people don't like him, but I've had a lot of opportunities to talk to him one on one and he's an amazing man. I love him!
realizes that marching band wouldn't exist if it weren't for football! HOORAY!!
Great band director, always pushes students hard but not to the extreme, has a rare and wonderful passion for teaching that (my) previous band directors lacked
He was by far the best teacher I had in high school. So caring for his students and their success and willing to work with them. He'll push you to do your best
Mr. Hannah was the best band teacher I had throughout school!
