Really have a love hate relationship with him. Overall, he doesn't tolerate suck-ups and makes his grading system arbitrary on purpose because he doesn't want kids to obsess over numbers-he wants you to learn and to improve. He's extremely knowledgeable about pretty much everything and jokes around a lot. Sometimes I found him to be a little defeated and lazy, but he really does make your writing more concise. If you have him, don't take everything he says too seriously and he'll respect you.
He is pretentious and does not want to teach - he spends as little time possible on the lesson and frequently looks at the clock. Worse, he fails to give us information about the assignments/tests before it is too late - telling us info about the essays after the draft has already been turned in, asking why we didn't add outside evidence on the in-class essay the day AFTER the in-class essay, even though he didn't say we needed outside evidence. He jokes a lot, and they're usually cringe-worthy.
I did get an A, but I feel that wasn't due to his teaching. He spends a lot of time "teaching about life", and going off on tangents rather than focusing on the lesson (he does note that he will do this in his class guide). His vocab tests don't further learning, instead they promote a superficial understanding of the book. He tries to spend as much time as possible not reading/discussing books, but rather about talking about "life", and frequently looks at the clock to see when class will end.
Freshman English was a tough ride, but he knows how to build you to be a successful student. He knows what he's talking about and you get a ton of good laughs from him. Work load is mild to heavy and time management is key in his class. Overall good.
Very funny guy. I learned a lot of useful writing tips from him. Overall a pretty good freshman english teacher
Great guy unless he your teacher. It's better knowing him at New Trier.
Mr. Rosenberg is definitely the best teacher I've ever had. He always gives tons of feedback on assignments because he reads them very closely. On top of being super easy and giving the lightest homework load compared to other English teachers by a mile, he's also the most compassionate man I've ever had the fortune of meeting. When I come in to conference with him, he's always really helpful and has a smile on his face. Class discussions are always engaging to the point. Favorite class ever!
While I find Rosenberg funny, his class is the hardest thing I've ever experienced. Just a week after we had finished Junior Theme, he expected us all to write 40-60 page journals on a book. It is the most tedious and most useless task ever performed in AP English. He does prepare you very well for the AP test, but I think the other AP teachers do that as well.
Tough, but toughness builds character. I like his ramblings too.
It's a bit of a letdown if you get rosenberg for ap jr english. the class can be amazing but with him it's nowhere near there. he's a good teacher and you will learn a lot, but he's also excessively judgmental and dismissive of anythign he deems a lesser view. i didn't like him much at all as a person, but i respected that he knew his english and learned what i could (which is a lot, it is still ap jr english)
It was not an easy class, but definitely doable. I learned sooo much in this class. Favorite teacher ever.
Great educator. Really cares about sudents and goes above and beyond to make you feel like you have something to offer.
Can be kinda intimidating, but is really an awesome guy and you will learn a lot.
He is really funny, as long as you are prepared to make fun of yourself. He can be critical, but he is a cool teacher and I learned alot
Once you get over the fact that views himself as an aristocrat, he is one of the best teachers you can get.
AP junior english is tough, but I think I learned something: how to think critically. Helped me with each draft. Great stories. Extremely funny at the expense of a few students. Seems mean but I think he's soft inside.
I became a much better writer because of him. He lets us pick our essay topics, so I actually want to improve my essay. He also has opinions on everything and knows some pretty weird stats. We go into some cool discussions.
Though he is probably one of the more difficult teachers in the school if he is your AP English teacher, I found immense improvement from his methods and would not have settled for anyone else.
An intense guy, gives pop in class essays and with 10 mins left tells you that the grade won't count. Hilarious stories like "the anti-prom" and "dropping out is okay". Hard teacher, but you learn.
MR. R IS THE BEST! YOU WILL LEARN SO MUCH FROM HIS CLASS. YOU WILL ALSO BECOME A BETTER WRITTER. (HELPFUL HINT: ALWAYS TURN YOUR STUFF IN ON TIME IN THIS CLASS)
Mr. Rosenberg seems intimidating at first, but if you want help, you can get it. He tells really really funny stories and there's always time for randomness during class.
Mr. Rosenberg can be great sometimes and awful others. Occasionally, I find him incredibly helpful and funny. Other times, he is indirect and incredibly rude.
seems really intimitating, but if you just go into to seem, you'll find that he's awesome. best teacher i've ever had. if you had trouble, it's your own fault.
Amazing english teacher! Lets you re-do papers until you're satified!! Has the coolest, funniest stories in school!
He is absolutely hilarious, so long as you aren't the kid he picks on. We read women magazines like Cosmo for a week. He is just chill, and simply hilarious.
Mr. Rosenberg is the best english teacher ive ever had. Hes so awesome, really funny and has great stories. I learned so much from him hes the best.
Great teacher once you give him a chance. He's not asking too much off you; he's asking you to do more than you've ever done before.
Hard to deal with - very sarcastic... yet hilarious. he's a good teacher - he makes you push outside your limits....
Intimidating until you realize that he is brutally fair. He really helps you become a better reader and writer, but at the cost of tons of homework.
She's alright. Not a bad teacher, but she's by no means one of my favorites.
