He's a really great teacher, and he definitely helped me improve a lot. However, he does tend to play favorites (as in if your essay is like 4 quality, he might give you a 5- if he likes you), so make sure you are his favorite. Although other people say he tends to be a hard grader, I never really had that impression. Getting sixes are possible in his class, and he truly is a great guy.
the man is incredible. he beat my writing to a pulp, but that was only so he could help me rebuild it. he's smart, funny, a little cruel, and one of the best teachers i've ever had. the highest grade i earned on one of his essays was a 6-, but i got a 6 in the class both terms i had him. he may seem tough, but don't switch out.
Contrary to what some of the others said, I found him to be a great teacher for someone who doesn't care about English. He improved my writing more then I can probably tell, and his classes were always charismatic and fun, but if you should ever hand him a paper that he doesn't like, be prepared to get a heart wrenching grade back. Also, his essays were always astoundingly simple to write. No weird prompts that are only applicable to one person, always clear and manageable.
As the Head of the Department, don't expect this guy to be easy. Super tough grader and doesn't cut anyone slack, but he really does know how to make people into better writers.
Legend. Helped my writing out a lot. Hard but rewarding.
Arrogant. Saw him actually push a librarian out of his way at a reading. His colleagues and a bunch of my classmates saw it, shook their heads and looked away. As a student in his class you see he is suffering from not being respected by the school.
I'm from the class of 2013, and I took Domina's senior elective 'The Novel After Modernism'. I was always a 4 student in English, and I really disliked the subject. Furthermore, I was pretty bad at participating. However, I was persuaded to take Domina's class and it really changed my perspective. Although it sounds simple, I learned that what you put into the course is what you get. Also, it is never to late to improve your English skills and Domina will help you as long as you work hard
This teacher needs to get a grip - overly harsh and destructive of one's confidence
very harsh grader, also grades down (-4=3) Did not have a good time in his class because it is a discussion based class.
Very enthusiastic, knowledgable, and engaging. He improved my writing dramatically. Although his classes can be difficult, you'll be glad that you had him.
unnecessarily harsh grader, intimidating attitude. a decent teacher when compared to most of the english department, but nowhere near fantastic. fudge with your schedule if you can.
Sets the standard for "hard teacher" in, really, every department at PA. But, he is such a great teacher that he has the right to do so. Really helps your writing; get him for english 100 and you'll be set for the rest of high school
one of the hardest english teachers at pa, but definitely worth it. improved my writing more than any other teacher i've had
Is a great coach, teacher, and friend. Brig an aura of friendliness wherever he goes and is one of Phillip's top faculty members.
Mr. Domina is my boy. Definitely a tough grader, one of the hardest at PA. He's also simply brilliant and inspiring. I've actually met with hem weekly for two years after having him for 100.
Easily the hardest teacher ive ever had, if you are lucky you can get a 4, if you work your **** off you can get a 5. He is very funny and a great guy. There is nobody better to teach you english 100.
I liked Mr. Domina because he taught me alot but I found his grading to be very unfair. I had him for part of the year and Ms. Chase for part of the year and its obvious that the grading is different.
I had domina as a freshman, his class if very tough but it makes your writing a lot better, i was able to coast through upper year english when my classmates werent. hes a great guy.
EXTREMELY hard. Gives mostly 3 & 4s...the occasional five. I know two people that have gotten 6s. He's kind and charismatic though. He talks a lot in class, but it could be worse.
He's sincere and all about helping you be a better writer. He's also a very hard grader.
incredible teacher. extremely hard grader but really intelligent and funny.
Amazing teacher. I loved his class. He is a very hard grader. You really have to work to get a 4, and you need to be amazing to get a 5 or a 6.
extremely difficult... rarely gives higher than a 4.. often lower, but amazing guy and amazing teacher.
You actually have to try to get good grades, but once you get the hang of what he's looking for it's really easy. He was my HC too, all around an awesome guy.
Awesome, but if he doesn't like your writing style, you will never get honors in the class no matter how hard you try.
Very nice, but by far the hardest teacher I have had. He makes class interesting but the grading system is just hard!
Mr. Domina has been one of the toughest teachers, when it comes to grading, that I have had thus far. In the end however, I thought that he was an excellent teacher.
I love Mr. Domina! He's really nice and funny, and he actually makes you put forth effort for good grades, which is a really good thing, because it pushes us.
Im really confused by everyone who says they learned alot about writing, he didnt help me with my writing much at all. i dont like him as a teacher.
whoop mr domina is awesome -- tough grader but really funny and i learned so much about critical writing.
Literature of the Suburbs was great! He's such a cool teacher.
coolest guy ever, sure... tough on the grading, but talk 2 him in conference and he helps u out. definately one of my fav ppl in and out of class
I had Domina freshman year and he was horrible. I do not understand why people like his class. I barely endured it!
An amazing track coach. Very friendly and knowlegeable guy. Very experienced, knows how to push you to improve on your times.
Mr. Domina is one of the best teachers in the school. He made the books we were reading interesting, whether it was by bringing in music related to the book, or having us watch O Brother, Where Art Thou? after we finished The Odyssey.
Mr. Domina is a great teacher and a great coach. He's tough, but if you listenen to him you will succeed, and be better off because it.
Domina is a great coach, he is a huge part of what makes PAXC such a blast.
Mr. Domina is the best english teacher I've ever had. He brings so much humor to the class with beeves and is soooo hip to the jiggity, while still being a tough teacher.
Mr. Domina is a really good teacher, except for the fact that he is very specific as to what he wants to write about and if one deviates from this, be prepared for a bad grade. However, if you listen to him, your writing will drastically improve.
Besides being a beautiful man, he is a brilliant and inspiring teacher.
It's clear that he's into the books he teaches, which is a good way to be. At least in the course I took, there was a lot of in-class writing, which can be a good or bad thing. In my case, bad.
mr. domina's a tough teacher, but that gives you room to stretch yourself as a student, and really develop your writing
Mr. Domina's winter term elective, the novel after modernism, is basically a class about his favorite books, but it's a great class just the same. He rambled sometimes, but he's got a lot to say - smart teacher, cool guy, great class.
Although I know him only as a Cross-Country coach, I can safely say that Mr. Domina is one of the most approachable, friendly, and interesting faculty on campus.
Domina is a cool, smart guy. Be prepared to work in his class. He demands a lot, but he is specific in his requests and, if you follow his advice, your writing will soar as on the wings of angels.
he is cool, but hard. Be prepared to work and participate in class.
Mr. Domina is by far the best looking teacher in the school. My heart speeds up just talking to him.
