As a former student in the 90s when he taught science at IS 217 (Roosevelt Isl), I can relate to some comments posted here. But w/o a doubt, he cared. Yes, he was strict and demanded much, but he also gave it his all as an educator. He showed many kids the value of hard work. As parents, do you want your kids to get easy A's but not be prepared for HS/College? Looking back, it's the teachers that had an impact that you remember. Perhaps he's not cut out as an admin, but he was a great teacher.
