The worst English teacher I had at Stuy. She is incredibly critical, judgmental, and condescending. Did not learn anything valuable from her. Her grading is based on favoritism, which was VERY RANDOM (just goes to show how erratic, unstable she is). Transfer out, otherwise she will lower your average.

i don't see how some people think she's good. she has a terrible grading system and only once in a while spits out something useful.

I would advise anyone who gets Ms. Chan for English not to be afraid to get 80s and 65s on essays. My writing went through a huge slump when I had her as a teacher. Weird essays, incredibly low grades

I dont know why everyone complains about her. If you basically just be an honest student w/o trying to take shortcuts-- you'll be fine. Talk to her, she's more approachable than people think. MsChan<3

Transfer out if you want to keep your average high. Grades harshly and leaves insulting comics almost no praise at all. The class itself isn't that bad, decent discussions, no homework, few projects.

friendly as a person, mean as a teacher. Almost no one gets high grades from her and the projects are boring.

She actually teaches pretty well, and encourages student participation. Hates lateness, though. No at-home reading -- just a few projects over the term. Bit mean-spirited, but still nice.

She likes hearing students' opinions, so make sure you participate a lot and express your thoughts in your essays. She catches on quick to students who don't do work, especially in group projects.

Ms. Chan is simply an inspiring literature teacher. Not only is she an extremely friendy, approachable person, she prepares meaningful dicussions. When grading, she may be harsh, but you become a writ

Almost everyone complains about her. Why? Because they don't read her books in class. You simply have to read 10 pages from a book equivalent of middle school level. People who get low grades don't.

come on cut her some slack. She's only trying to be critical on you. Think about it no one in life can possibly be perfect. I love that she was so truthful even if I wanted a higher score.

She was not a tough grader at all! So inspirational and approachable. She gave 5x more comments on my essays than all my other eng techers combined. She loves you if you participate.

Anyone would be lucky to have Ms. Chan freshman year. She is not an unfair grader though she is tougher than the average teacher. It is not impossible to get a 95 in her class at all. Her classes are truly meaningful.

Really unfair grader. She likes to take a long time on some projects and then she throws on tons of work at the end of the term. If you raise your hand a lot, she likes you, but often you participate "TOO MUCH" (I dunno how?)

She is a very difficult grader. her grades are based mostly on your papers. I participated my brains out one term but because she didn't like my paper I ended up with an 85. She's really nice but very very tough.

One of the only English teachers that actually reads your papers thoroughly AND puts tons of comments! Just do your work, put some effort, and you'll get a great grade. One of best Eng teachers I've ever had.
