I can't stand him, to be quite honest. He took the fun out of English for me, and I'm now an English Major! He was just so uptight and expected his students to be as smart and knowledgeable as he was. He was very intelligent, just not good at passing it on to students.
Mr Cosden not only taught me how to manage my time and prioritize school work, but also life lessons. He taught me how to cherish the little things, and his love for his wife truly inspires me. Cosden is hands down one of the hardest workers I know, getting to school at the crack of dawn and staying long afterwards. Even if you aren't an english person and find the class difficult, don't let that stop you from appreciating him.
He is the smartest person I know!!! He knows something about everything. He is the sweetest person ever. Don't get me wrong, his class is so hard. Make sure you read the books, not just spark notes. His tests and quizzes are so hard!!! You will hate him in the beginning of the year just because his class is a difficult and time consuming class. But as the year goes on you will notice how much you have learned and you will come to love him!!!!!
I am taking H English II this year. Not only have I only had his class for a few months, but I have totally grown because of him as a person outside of class. I still find his work tedius, but enjoyable. He indirectly taught me to cherish the little and simple things in life, just like the details of a tragic novel. There are many-a-times when you'll come out of that classroom dying with laughter! Very fun and quirky and has a lifetime of knowlege. (Ask about his tie everyday and never say get!)
Mr. Cosden is honestly one of the most knowledgeable and kind hearted teachers I have ever had. That being said, sometimes his class can be frustrating, due to the lack of structure and organization. The tests and quizzes are hard, but it is an honors class and what he expects is fair. Overall one of the best teachers I have had.
I think mr. Cosden is a brilliant man and people who complain they don't learn anything from him in class because he gets distracted aren't paying enough attention because when he goes off on his tangents there is almost always a life lesson he was also the only teacher I ever had that took the time to actually KNOW his students. his class was definetly the most challenging one I've been through but it was also one of the few that I looked forward to going to everyday
Mr. Cosden has a beautiful soul. Many of his students may initially dislike him because of the time and effort that his class requires; but if you look at the big picture, this man is preparing us for the real world. Never met a teacher that cared more about his students and actually took the time to know and love them.
He's so darling! I learned so much from him, particularly the ability to voice my opinions. I wanted to join his Mock Trial Team because he invited me personally - having seen me debate openly about subjects in the period. Open your minds and you'll realize how valuable this course is.
One of the best teachers I've ever had in my life. It was a ton of work, but looking back I am so glad I had him.. I learned so much and he is a genuine and caring teacher. He expects a lot from his students but will always help you out. Great man!
Mr. Cosden is the most intelligent man I know. I hated him before, but when he and I debated in class this year, and he raised his hands and clapped, I was in awe that he had prepared me to face life just like that: opinionated and strong. Thank you!
Tips: use the word "get", he loves it. Disagree with him a lot because he loves to argue... I mean c'mon, he's the Mock Trial coach! Despite what people say, there's really no need to read the books, except Huckleberry Finn. The Citadel and Tale of Two Cities is really easy so don't worry. Also, there are no pop quizzes and his tests are easy and manageable if you study for 10 minutes. DO NOT STUDY VOCAB OR LITERARY TERMS it's pointless; there's maybe one question on each test. Good luck!
He's probably the most knowledgeable man I know. The problem is that he is so brilliant that he can't fathom the idea that someone else might not understand it or pick up on all the little hints and details. He's quizzes are impossible if you don't do the read and even when you do they are still hard! Also, he isn't the most organized, but he means well. He's so dedicated that he only sleeps for a few hours every night!
GREAT! he is so nice u guys are just too lazy to do anything. He really is a good teacher .. very knowledgable !!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
His class isn't easy. If you expect to coast through it, that isn't going to happen. It requires actual work. He tries to help, but isn't always clear in his instructions.
he is a very odd man. apparently he can go off of 3 hours of sleep every night...maybe thats why his eyes are so wierd. thi is a very VERY hard class so DO NOT take it if you do afterschool activities
He sometimes makes fun of students when they ask questions, which is unprofessional and childish.
He is brilliant! I love Mr. Cosden more than any teacher I have ever had! He is funny, insightful, and completely brilliant. Hes like a walking encyclopedia! Never have I loved a teacher so much
my main issue with him was the lack of structure during class. we really did not learn anything in class, what i learned came from reading. and don't ever expect to receive graded papers on time
I would recommend him for creative writing to anyone, even if you don't like writing. Maybe a little intense sometimes, but truly a good teacher and really makes you think... :)
Mr. Cosden was one of the BEST teachers I have ever had. He really cares about his students and he would always say hi to me in the hallway whenever he saw me, I owe him a lot, he's a great man!
Mr. Cosden is easily the best teacher I have ever had. I hope he continues to teach for a long time! He definitely knows what he is talking about and is always there to help after school if I need it; his main thing is writing, so he grades rather hard, but I pretty much appreciate it because it gives me a chance to improve my writing before I go to college and probably won't get as much individual help.
Mr. cosden is very passionate about literature and very smart. HOWEVER; NOTHING IS EVER GRADED ON TIME (i spent a month on my term paper and many sleepless nights, only to find out that it wont even be done THIS YEAR) he can be VERY condescending, and talks down to EVERYONE. He can be nice and have his good moods, especially during mythology, and can be a good teacher at times. He can be nice sometimes, but as a teacher he looses my work and critisizes me. MY MOST CHALLENGING CLASS, but i liked it somehow
I totally agree with the one below me. He is a nice man, but honestly his class was the hardest and scariest I ever attended at Xavier.
had mr. cosden for sophomore english as well as being in mock trial. by the end of four years i truly began to despise him as he came out to be a man trying to exert influence over others. he would always belittle me outside of class and after being in mock trial for multiple years, everyone else felt the same way. as far as learning goes, teaches decent, but can never return anything on time, and wastes a lot of time playing random songs and going on tangents. i would avoid.
He made me hate English class. There was little/no prep for the AP test. While he has the potential to be a great teacher (good methods), he seemed to have stretched himself too thin with all of his commitments (various clubs, being the only advanced sophmore English teacher, etc.). He lost some of our work (yet still managed to provide us all with grades....) and did not return all of the term papers (due in Dec.) until summer school began. Bad time management, Cosden!
Mr. Cosden is am AMAZING teacher, Take full advantage of everything he offers you girls! He will leave you well prepared and welcome you with open arms for many years after you graduate!
The most condescending man I have encountered yet. He's nice... but very patronizing.
cosden in the best!!! he is the best english teacher i have ever had! you are so lucky if you ahve him!!!
A very cool teacher, funny, and very helpful.I give him a good grade
He's the coolest teacher in this planet!!!! I would SO totally give him a 10, but it's only on a scale of 1 to 5.
A really nice man. He is always there for his students and will teach you how to write.
Mr. Cosden is the epitome of niceness. Three years later he still remembers my full name and says hello to me multiple times each day. Good going Mr. C!
Mr. Cosden is da BOMB! sometimes his techniques are... strange or he goes off on tangents that are minor and whacky, but overall he's always there to help!
Greatest ever. Has a fridge and cabinet full of food in his room. He gave me food when i was hungry!!! :) Weird, but in a good way...loves teaching
He's cool until he starts grading everything you do ridiculously, then he's just weird! I don't see why everybody likes him so much
Mr. Cosden is the best teacher this school has to offer... hands down, there is no competition whatsoever. He truly cares and that is something unique.
A very hard class . . .but very helpful & fun. He gives free candy to each of the students and he has a strong passion for his students. We love you Mr. C!
I know you all love him, but come on, you must admit he is super weird...not the biggest fan of him, and his class was fairly unproductive.
Mr. Cosden is the best teacher I had at Xavier. He is such a nice guy and wants everyone in his class to do well.
Mr. Cosden is the greatest! The class of 2003 loves you!
I love Mr. Cosden! He's such a sweetie! His classes are challenging but he makes it fun.
Mr. Cosden is a great teacher, but very challenging.
I loved Mr. Cosden's English class. He is a very good teacher.
