Mr. Labonne was the best English teacher I've ever had. He was really helpful with essay writing and was a really cool teacher. He really likes his students to participate in his classes. Overall, I was really glad that I was able to have him as my teacher in my first year at Stuyvesant High School before he retired. Best of luck to him in all his future endeavors!!!
Class discussions are always interesting in La Bonne's class, and he will absolutely improve your essay writing. Overall awesome guy
Mr. LaBonne is a cool guy, and he is passionate about his job as an English teacher. He could be mean sometimes if you don't follow directions, but if you follow directions, be polite and greet him everyday, PARTICIPATE (he sees if you tried), and do well on his vocab quizes (which are easy because he reviews it a day before the quiz) his class will be a great experience.
He is the best teacher ever and he is very humorous!
He's very strict in grading but it's all for good reason. He will make you a better writer and will make you enjoy the class. One of the strongest teachers in Stuy.
Okay, NO. Mr. La Bonne is really good. The only problems are with the essays, but after the first one, if you do bad, you need help. Aim for at least a 3 which is in the low 80s. DO NOT TRANSFER OUT. He's one of the few teachers who counts tests and quizzes as part of your grade, and they're easy. You people are complaining about his essays, but at least participation, homework, tests, and quizzes help your grade balance out. Would you rather have a teacher that focuses completely on essays?
He is very passionate about his job (including writing essays, grammar, the books, etc.). He is a very cool person and talk to the class about just anything. Although he is very strict in grading the essays, you should be a good student and behave and try hard. His quizzes are easy, but the exams about the books aren't that easy to study for. Once I didn't really read a book and got 84. Another exam I did read the book, and I got an 88... General: You should always greet your teachers!
Great teacher, funny, smart etc. Some people don't like him but just talk to him and get on his good side and you'll do well.
Mr. La Bonne is a great teacher. He is one of the best English teachers that I've ever had. In order to succeed in his class, you have to participate. A lot. Whenever there is a class discussion, you need to speak up because he appreciates participation. He also gives great input on essays, although he somewhat strict in grading. He gives vocabulary and grammar tests, but they're not hard at all, so don't sweat it. If someone does not like him, that means they were not a good student.
Great teacher, just do well in his papers. If not he'll offer you help.
La Bonne is a great English teacher and those who say otherwise probably don't do their work. He's kind of fun and doesn't give much work. If you do the reading and review for the vocab, you'll easily get a good grade. He's harsh on essays but other than that, he's a good teacher. He's very knowledgeable about literature and is always willing to help out. But participation is a must. He enjoys hearing your insight!
For the most part, he's a fair teacher -- but he tends to be a bit harsher and has higher expectations for our essays. When we discuss good books, like Great Expectations, its interesting. When we discuss grammar, its pretty dull.
Don't show up late to his class, otherwise he will hate you and take 20 points off your final grade. He'll ask you to leave if you fall asleep. He grades sort of harshly on essays compared to other En
Mr. La Bonne's class was a blast, he had a lot of fun with the students and enjoyed when we picked on his common phrases. Work on essays, participate, and it should be fine!
he is a REALLY nice teacher and has eyes like a hawk so its pretty much impossible to sleep in his class. not the easiest teacher when it comes to essays and you would have to read every single senten
Mr. La Bonne is a great teacher even though he might be a little strict on his essay but the fact that he is so strict makes him such a great teacher. He will make you in the best shape he can for the
He really knows if you're trying or not and does the best he can to raise your grade. I had him during freshmen year and he taught us how to write nearly perfect essays.
His classes are really fun and he is a very chill teacher. He will help you improve you writing a lot but is a harsh grader on essays. If you had hom beforre with fun kids the class will be awesome.
My favorite teacher. He is hilarious and so chill. It was just such a great class. He's also really intelligent and has a great taste in literature. Outside of the required readings, he always chooses
WAY too harsh on the essays. He takes off points for really stupid things. His class is chill and his quizzes are easy, but essays are horrible. He is without a doubt the harshest English teacher.
he grades the essays sooo harshly. hard to get even a 4. sometimes people get lower than a 1 by him taking off 5 for tiny things. BUT hes chill with all else. like easy quizzes not much hw. good class
Mr. La Bonne is a great English teacher. He really cares about his students. He'll even meet up with you before class to help you with your writing. Really knows good writing. You'll really improve if
Essays are really hard, and he has a confusing grading system, but the bi-weekly quizzes don't require much studying. Class is informational as well as entertaining as long as you are moderately respe
Harsh on the essays, but if you listen to his criticism, it will make you a better writer. The quizzes help boost your grade if you study a little.
man, this guy is my favorite teacher!:) he's really harsh on the essays, but if you participate a lot, he'll love you! he's really laid back and i love how his routine is really organized! :D
He's tough when grading your essays, but you'll learn how to write well in the process. Participate in the discussions. He's not at all as bad as some people make him out to be.
Really, really hard teacher. 5 points off for a contraction. He teaches his grammar like an insane man.
He's a pretty difficult grader when it comes to essays. He's very picky at you're lucky if you get above a 4. If you participate frequently in class he should give you a decent grade.
i really like mr. la bonne. hes really laid back&isnt a stiff mean teacher.he lets ppl joke around &he is really clear. just do his hw & study for his vocab&grammer quizzes. he gives lots of essays.
A strict but fair teacher. A teacher who is not afraid to admit his own mistake and point out other people's. one of my fav
LaBonne was my English teacher 10 years ago. Still among the best i've ever had. He was hard but fair.
amazing teacher and fun to just talk to about stuff. however he grades hard. but curves at end. watch out 4 vocag and grammer quizzes though.
He covers interesting works, cool vocabulary, and gives good writing advice. Very strict about lateness, however.
In conference with Mr. Labonne, he was snippy, unpleasant and unwilling to discuss issues my daughter had with his class. He was rigid, played favorites and definitely had "victims". Avoid him.
A polarizing figure: you'll either love him or hate him. My favorite teacher after four years at Stuy, and I'm not even a "humanities person".
BEST ENGLISH TEACHER I HAD Lots of essay's but hes funny and picks on people
he's pretty cool. hilarious but he picks on people alot. has favorites and uses sarcasm unnecessarily. hard essay grader, but i got an 85 in his class with 2s-0s on essays. don't fall asleep and don't do other hw in his class
I thought I could write before his class...I was so wrong. He taught me how to write an essay and that's a lesson that will always stay with me. And you get to have a lot of awesome class discussions
he's tough, but he knows what he's doing. i think i'm learning more in his class than i ever have IN MY LIFE
you guys care too much about grades. he is a really cool guy and a great teacher. you can do anything in his class and he won't get mad. he's not strict at all unless you do something that he really hates like plagiarism.
super strict and gives you no room to err. it's almost inhumane.
very hard teacher, very demanding, but definitely a fair grader...if you work, he will surely give you what you think you deserve
i think Mr La Bonne is an awesome teacher. Yes, you have to work hard in his class... but it is completely worth it.
Just because Mr. Labonne is a hard grader does'nt mean he's a bad teacher. He's an awesome guy, really knows what he's talking about, and after his class you'll be a great writer.
Johnny is awkard in a way. He expects you to know everything in advance. However, a nice guy if you do all your work/reading and don't give him bull.
I love him. He's so funny and friendly. However, he doesn't help you that much in developing your writing abilities.
Ninety percent of our grade is from essays, yet he doesnt teach us how to write an essay. Funny guy, loves football, his personality is great, but he cant teach. su
Overall a pretty good teacher - my main complaint is that he doesn't give enough explanation or help on writing essays, he just tells us what he wants and expects us to be able to do it right away.
Mr. Labonne's way of analyzing the readings in class is a bit objective; I wish that there were open-ended discussions. Hw should be explained more precisely, & late hw should be accepted, esp. if caused by misunderstanding.
i totally hated his class while i was in it but i learned soo much useful stuff about writing that helped me write college essays and get through later eng classes.
he is a real smart and genuine teacher. he is funny and he keeps his class intresting. you learn so much about writing and english from him. is hard, but it was a great experience
SUCH AN EXCELLENT TEACHER! sure hes a little overbearing at times but he can be very funny and helped me edit my college essay even though i thought he hated me. dont transfer out!
Not a person I would like to know personally. However, learned much more from him than any other English in my life. His total annihilation of my work finally made me think.
bleh He is a good teacher.. But just too picky and mean
He's awfully mean. He doesn't teach, he just makes fun of your writing and calls it "cr*p"
Very good teacher--you will learn a lot if you put a lot into it. he is quite particular about things...
A very strange teacher: expects you to remember everything, changes due dates randomly, makes things up, but went out of way to help my essays; seems to assign end grades randomly.
one of the best english teachers in the school, but not the nicest.
very disrespectful towards students. nitpicky. the class itself isn't THAT bad, it's just that he is VERY stingy with grades. transfer out if you can
A frustrated 'college professor' who is forced to teach high school. Has a lot of psychological issues. Is biased especially towards girls.
can be mean at times, but overall a good teacher. will give you a decent grade if you work hard.
what do ppl have against Mr. Labonne? He knows when you try hard to improve and I see my grades steadily rasing. Got a 95 in the last term. My writing improved
Not always the easiest teacher to have because he's a perfectionist, but he doesn't give a lot of work (only reading and a few essays per term). I like him.
what an awful, awful person. he's bias, rude, and arrogant.
Great teacher, very challenging and you may not get the best grade, but this teacher will ensure you an excellent grade next term
extremely stingy with grades & very biased and arrogant.
Smart Guy, Gives lots of work, but you learn a lot and learn to be a little humble too. Pretty fair grades
gives way too much work, but i guess its all for the best
Yeah he gives a lot of homework, and papers and research projects, but u do learn a lot... He can be pretty mean though.
he is a terrible teacher. he does not specify what he wants. he's unfair and bias
Although he is extremely stingy with grades, he's a very nice teacher. He's very intelligent, and perspective, also. Overall, Mr. LaBonne is a great teacher.
