Hard teacher, but the best I've ever had. His outlines are labor intensive, but the best way to study so if you do them an A is definitely guaranteed. He also has really good extra help sessions, always helps if u have a question and just helps you out in everything, even if it's just advice and not soc related. He is easily the hardest working person in the building at any given time. The class is excellent prep for the AP and his teaching style really agreed with me
A good teacher, but as a soc teacher he definitely puts too many opinions in his course. He fails to present fair, unbiased historical facts to students in some parts of the course, and he seems to be extremely against the current PRC government and gives us a lot of biased opinions on modern china.
Mr. ko is n amazing teacher sometimes kids complain about the difficulty level in his class but the truth is you'll be glad you had him because he truly prepares your for the real world. We get outlines almost overnight which seems terrible but if done correctly can be done in under and hour and its and easy A. If you have the chance to switch in to his class i wish i could have him every year.
The best period.
One of the best teachers that I have ever had; knowledgable, caring and although I was in a regular class, he guided me into working hard and eventually made it into an AP Class. Thank you, Mr. Ko.
You would be hard pressed to find a teacher who works harder and cares more about his students than Mr. Ko does. I'm indebted to him for his guidance (in 9H and AP) that have led to me becoming a hardworking student with a positive outlook on life.
Great experience in AP World and Global 9H. Workload is high but if you do all the outlines (actually do them, not just "get through them"), you're bound to succeed in the class. Demanding teacher? Yes. Helpful, knowledgeable? You bet. Thanks Mr. Ko!
I did not take Mr. Ko's class, but rather went to him for extra help with European History. Mr. Mac never seemed to be around but he always was. I can honestly say that he is the most humble, knowledgable, and helpful teacher I have ever had the honor of meeting. He helped me immensely (and gave free food). Despite not being in his class, he helped me just as much as he would with his kids. He is a wonderful man and GNSHS is lucky to have him.
Mr. Ko is a dedicated, knowledgeable teacher. He constantly gives the class information that we can use in our every day life. In his class, you know exactly what you're getting. Zero percent homework average? Okay. You physically cannot get above a 58 average for the quarter. Work hard, and you will receive A's. The bottom line is that he is a difficult teacher that requires a lot of time and effort. (Tip, watch Crash Course the night before you begin a new topic. Trust me!)
I love this man, and unfortunately i'll never have the chance to tell him. He really turned my life around, he made me believe in myself, and brought down the luster of the 'geniuses' in the class. With hard work and diligence, anyone can get the grades they want... Thanks Mr. Ko!
Honestly, he doesn't really even do that much teaching in the class and half the things he says are irrelevant, or at the very best, trivial. At first (from my personal experience) I recognized an exceptionally skillful teacher, but it seems that he eventually "changed" his methods in such a way that his teaching is barely effective anymore. It took me a long time (after a year and a half of having him), but I finally realize how he has made me believe that I have failed myself.
I can honestly say that Mr. Ko is the most caring, genuine and hard-working teacher I have ever had. I absolutely loved his class, despite almost never doing the homework. He gave me the grades we both knew I deserved, and this was never a problem. His class was more interesting than any other I have taken; I constantly found myself wishing the period would be 10 minutes longer. His class is not unfairly hard, it simply requires a lot of time. He prepared his students like no other teacher.
The hard work pays off in the end. It has meaning. It's not just "busy work." The tests are tough but if you work hard, you are prepared for them. Mr. Ko is a friendly, funny, organized man with a pure intention to have his students grow, succeed, and realize their potential as learners.
Comment below is very untrue! Mr. Ko is an extremely fair teacher who appreciates all of his students and treats them all with respect. He sees the potential in everyone, therefore he has no favoritism. His map tests have taught me memorization skills. Outlines have taught me to work efficiently and organized. His curriculum tests allow me to think critically. I have realized the capability of my own brain. He is a model teacher: dedicated, caring, open, and challenging (of course).
Ko's class is very difficult. Unfortunately, Mr. Ko picks favorites and gets an attitude with students who are not his favorite. His tests are extremely hard because half the stuff we learn in class (not that we learn anything anyway) isn't even on the test. The outlines are pointless and annoying.
mr ko is the man. smart, funny, , caring, and easily one of the most qualified teachers in the school the hard work really pays off. also has the finest moustache in the school
The most dedicated, hardworking teacher at South High. Assigns so much work, but unlike the case of other teachers, it has meaning. Demanding, yet rewarding when you score a 5 on the AP Exam in May :D
If only more teachers were like Mr. Ko. Then again, everyone would drown in even more work. Anywya, Mr. Ko is the nicest man I've ever met, his lectures are structured and interesting to learn from, and he is completely unbiased towards his students. Homeworks are extremely long and tiring, but its
Truely the best teacher and best class that i have ever had. He plans everything out accordingly and really knows how to prepare his students. A teacher this amazing is just so rare.
AMAZING TEACHER!! yes, his class can get hard, but he's always there to help, always encouraging, and one of the most understanding teachers i've ever worked with!
Amazing teacher! If your prepared to work hard and study you will do well in his class. Class discussions are amazing, wish his class was longer! Treats you like the class name, like college students. After awhile work becomes easier and all in all prepares you for the AP. If you complain about the work, Don't take the class its AP for a reason
insanely nice and funny... yes theres a lot of work but the preparation is unmatchable. instead of memorizing terms and dates you actually learn and are able to apply your knowledge and enjoy the class. the amount of work just helps you study and learn how to manage yourself and stay organized... overall a really great teacher
Mr. Ko is a terrific teacher. His 100 question multiple choice tests were difficult at times but if you pay attention and study it isn't that bad. He's very dedicated and takes time to explain anything that you may not understand. Mr. Ko is also willing to spend time with you after school if you don't understand a particular topic. You must be prepared to work in his class. In my four years in South, I can say that Mr. Ko is by far one of the best teachers.
Had more work here than all of my other classes combined... stupid outlines. its not hard to get a good grade tho :-)
awesome teacher, very dedicated and qualified for the job, the one teacher who makes soc. easier for us to understand. also the cookies makes tests worth it
hard class, lots of work, the tests arent bad as long as you study, willing to help, EXTREMELY slow grader
im completley serious when i say this, hes the hardest worker ive ever seen. ive seen him leave school at 9 PM. no joke. hes amazing. he should have something dedicated to him. best teacher.
WONDERFUL TEACHER, ALOT ALOT ALOT ALOT OF WORK. YOU CAN ASK HIM FOR HELP EVEN AFTER YOU HAVE TAKEN HIS CLASS
Great Teacher!! So dedicated to his students. Gives a lot of work but it pays off in the long run. Gives cookies every test and they are SO GOOD:] ALOT of work but helps ALOTT. Teaches VERY well.
he is my favorite teacher!.. once ur in his class u should be prepared to do a lot of work but it all pays off in the end.
simply amazing and a very dedicated teacher that will help you understand history to the fullest.
Great and enjoyable class. WARNING: LOTS OF WORK IN CLASS AND AT HOME REQUIRED TO PASS! I heard next year's AP World class will be even more intensive than this year's! SLACKERS BEWARE
a lot of work but all of the work pays off i have never met such a dedicated teacher he will stay and help you for as long as you want stay in his class!
One of the most inspiring teachers in our school. Clearly the best, he may seem hard but it will only better prepare you for later life
He made me work hard, was very knowledgeable on our curriculum, and I looked forward to class. Besides test preparation, he also told us the facts of life after high school, living on our own.
Mr. Ko is the best Social Studies teacher. Not only can he teach things well, but he uses funny analogies so that you remember things. Cookies during tests! All in all best soc teacher i've had. ever.
He's willing to stay super late for kids who need the extra help. And is also willing to help you - even if youre the only one there. not only do you learn about global, but the ways of the real world
Too much homework! Please lower it we have enough homework as it is- and other things to do. If you lowered it that would be great.
He's an amazing teacher, and pretty much everyone likes him!
he is a great teacher! he prepares u very well. anyone who has him is very lucky.
i loved mr. ko! one of the best teachers I've ever had. you learn a lot from him and he treats everyone student like his favorite!
Mr. Ko is a very good teacher, and you will end up learning a lot in his class. The only problem I have though, is that not one kid in my class got an A. I also find his grading method pretty unfair
best soc teacher ever! i wish i had him this yearrr! he is SOO nice! and has the best cookies!
best teacher....you can really learn a lot in his class..if you don't like to do work, you won't want to be in his class
had mr ko last year, it's just so different not having him as a soc teacher this year, doesn't feel like i'm getting much out of the course if he isn't teaching it. mr.ko is awesome, yay! love him. <3
Best teacherrrrr ever. So nice! i love those cookies!
mr ko ur seriously the best teacher this year so far
Mr. ko is a wonderful teacher and he is really fair he gives a lot of hw....becasue if u think about it it is an ap class n if he is gonna curve ur grades than u have to show hard work..best teacher!!
mr. ko is an awesome teacher & person. he's great to talk to & and always there to help u , seriously. u'll learn a lot from him and never forget him. I <333 ko. oh and u get cookies for every test :)
Mr. Ko's class should be a part of everyone's high school experience because he's the man! But if you're not up to doing a lot of work, switch out and let others enjoy the Ko experience. Capishe?
Mr. Ko is a great teacher, who makes you work hard and become a better student. what's really good he that he is always avaliable for help and i credit him for my success in high school.
Mr Ko is awesome. He doesn't actually give all that much work, and if you pay attention in class, a lot of what is on the tests is said. He's a great teacher and is a great person to talk to!
Mr. Ko is one of the best teachers I've ever had!! He gives a lot of work, but it's worth it! He's also really fair. As long as you try your best and do the work, you will receive a good grade!!!
Mr. Ko is by far one of the most amazing teachers i have ever had and probably ever will. He guides his students for future tasks, he does not take them by the hand and give them a lollipop. THANK YOU
mr. ko gives a lot of work but its all worth it. He is an amazing teacher!!!!
His classes are difficult, and are not for the milquetoast among us. But every class should be this rigorous.
his tests require lots of outside reading- useful for the ap but timeconsuming. discussions often dont finish within class time but are good. if u cant do ap-studying, class forces u. maybe 2much work
if prepares u very well if u listen thro out the entire class and the hw load isnt so bad. He breaks things up easily so u can understand better but u hav 2 pay attention n dnt space out
Mr. Ko was by far the best teacher I had through out high school. Although his class was sometimes overwhelming, he prepared me for anything.....he's really undestanding and cares about each indvidiua
all the work is worth it. he makes the class much more fun than it sounds and you'll end up getting the best scores on finals out of any soc. class.
mr. ko is an amazing teacher. he made his classes a lot more fun than it should be. he's really hardworking and nice. all the hard work he puts you through is worth it in the end.
best teacher i ever had not only helpful but also makes the classes fun if u aint afraid of a little more work then usual he is the best teacher to pick
Mr. Ko is an amazing teacher. Many say that his workload is too much, but it really is beneficial to the students. His class is definitely NOT boring. The best teacher ever!!!!!
Mr. Ko quite successful in his relentless pursuit at the one central goal of his campaign - high scores on the Ap Exam. He is simply the best at this. However, this, comesatthe expense of your average
Mr. Ko is an AMAZING teacher. People think he's a hard teacher because there's a lot of work but it's really not that bad, and he's worth it. He really knows what he's talking about and he's so smart.
Mr. Ko is an INCREDIBLE TEACHER!! Show him that youre trying really hard and hand in your work on time, he will be happy to reward you with a good grade! I had him for 3 years and loved each class!!!
