good teacher, I had him in the past. But I wish he would pay more attention to the guys in class.
Good luck on the final first semester-He will not teach you what you need to know. Very kind person though!
Needs to teach curriculum!
Really nice teacher, really chill too. Few hw /tests
He's incredibly smart and super nice, but it's hard to understand his teaching sometimes.
For the student who wishes to go far, Stern is unmatched. After his course you will never see math the same way again. Be ready to think hard, because his courses are about ideas.
A new species of philosopher is appearing: I venture to baptize these philosophers with a name not without danger in it. As I divine them, as they let themselves be divined -- for it pertains to their nature to want to remain a riddle in some respects -- these philosophers of the future might rightly, but perhaps also wrongly, be described as attempters. This name itself is in the end only an attempt and, if you will, a temptation.
I'll admit that Mr. Stern can drone on and on about his subject to the point where staying awake is impossible. However on the flip side he is such an amazing teacher. The things he can teach you about are extraordinary. I'm currently in a class where the final is made by him and there are no regents to "look forward" so there is no pressure from grades. This allows for his classroom to be a place where learning actually comes first. Mr. Stern renewed my interest in math. He's a great teacher.
BEST TEACHER EVER THE END NOTHING ELSE I CAN SAY MY FAVORITE TEACHER TOO!
Mr. Stern is a great teacher although he did not really teach the curriculum. He opened up mathematics for me. Although he is currently on leave, he is a great teacher and anyone would be glad to have him. You may not be learning what the other classes are but his class would always enrich you knowledge.
You will not learn anything useful at all. He goes off topic and instead proves random, irrevelent theorems. Good luck trying to understand anything he says.
Mr. Stern made me realize how broad and amazing math really was. He tends to wander off from the curriculum, but in the end, everything he has taught me has helped me a great deal. Plus, for the first
Stern is an intelligent and kind teacher, and he obviously loves math. You don't have to worry about grades with him. However, he doesn't teach the curriculum, so you basically have to learn the subje
Pros- no homework or tests, sleep all you want, knows a lot and wants us to learn. Cons- his teaching methods are strange, at best, and we'll end up learning one problem for 2 weeks just to understan
Really great teacher, great guy. I see why some people don't like him--he doesn't follow the same curriculum as everyone else--but what he's teaching is much much more interesting. I wish people would
Why is he getting a favorable rating? He puts everyone to sleep. He might be a intelligent teacher, but he needs to know how to transfer the knowledge to his kids. He doesn't teach from the book and
He's intelligent, but a hypocrite. It's unfair for him to reprimand students for being late when he himself skips class a lot. (had him for Math Team)
Makes me fall asleep, no matter how hard i try. gave me a 77 for a test that i got 2/9 pretty nice. When he is angry, he is still sort of happy, in a humorous way.
Best math teacher I've ever had; explains everything clearly and curves tests. His voice is monotonous but I've never fell asleep.
Arg, he makes me fall asleep in geometry, so does half of the class. He does know his facts, and his classes are easy. Less homework, yes.
hes so smart! hes an awesome teacher, occasionally showing his humor and has the class in laughter. very good curves in multivariable calculus.
Great teacher, although most think that Mr. Novikoff is the better, I actually like Mr. Stern more. The only bad thing about him is that he has a very monotonous voice that may make you fall asleep.
Great teacher, but his class is very confusing n u gotta think soo much, also he talks in a monotone way, it makes a lot of ppl kinda sleepy
Mr. Stern is a truly brilliant teacher! He teaches u loads, w/o ever giving u too much work. He gives little hw, and checks all of it at once about once a month. His tests are really easy, just pay attention in class.
great multivariable teacher. love his challenging tests and huge curves. (5 points out of a total of 60 curved to a 77.)
Mr. Stern is very very smart. loves theorems, proofs, and meeg material. i had him for five terms and everything was insanely challenging but insanely curved. he can cram a term's worth of work into a week or two.
This man is a genius. Try not to fall asleep even though its hard. It gets really intense sometimes and his room is right by the waters so sometimes you hear the seagulls...
Interesting smart endlessly resourceful. Monotonous voice, lessons so intense they can get boring. Challenging, only for students with experience at handling things on their own.
Mr. Stern is great. I learned more multivariable calculus in his MEEG class than in a term-long multi class in college!
He's really smart and nice but he has to be the most boring man on the planet.
I respect him because of his sheer knowledge and (perhaps this is not right to admit?) his politics.
Very nice man. However I find him extremely boring and I learn nothing in his class. He is a generous grader.
One of the few teachers with nice handwriting. When I left his class, knowledge was leaking out of my ears, there was so much of it. I wish I had him for math team, but I can't.
oh gosh his tests are hard, and classwork too. But he is such a nice teacher!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mr. Stern for President! (That will be a good thing cause he is a fellow Reagan revolutionary.) :)
GO STERN! he makes difficult problems so much easier, and he tries to make everything concise- so we have a better understanding. STERN IS COOL!
Mr. Stern is AWESOME! He is beyond intelligent, funny, and goes out of his way for math--and us students. He practicaly wrote books for us last year(with help from Mr.Granovskiy)
really cool and really smart guy but he's got a monotonous kind of a voice.
brilliant man but a tad boring, hes super nice, and an easy grader but he has a very monotonous voice, very hypnotic
brilliant, amazing person who knows how to explain anything, but his class can definitely be challenging at times; just study a lot before tests and you'll love his class
Mr.Stern is the coolest teacher ever!!! His class is quite challenging, but he explains things so clear! Great man.
WOW. Besides being a great teacher, he has a huge vocabulary. And he's very dedicated, though I don't think I got many of my tests back.
Challenging class. So much information! But Stern taught me how to think abstractly, and I'll love tlogic for life now.
Easy grader, but learned close to nothing in the MQ4 curriculum! And he rushed way too much cramming all info at the end of the year...useless!
He actually spends the time writing books (The Consistency of Geometry)for us. His lessons are long but he knew when to make a joke. Overall I think he is cool.
he's one of the nicest and greatest teacher ever. i'm sorry i fall asleep in class, though. his lessons are too long and complicated.
Mr. Stern is the BEST! His class is really really cool, and he understands that we students are not perfect. Great guy!
mr. stern is the best teacher ever!! so nice and fun and smart. his lessons are really cool.
Joe is one of the best teacher's I've ever had. The nicest teacher also. Just make sure that you listen at least a bit and try to take something from his class.
He's really nice, but sometimes goes into tangents during his explanations...otherwise he's a great teacher, and grades very easily. All take home tests!
He's the best math teacher in stuy and he grades easy. he explains things really clear and his class is fun. He's a very nice guy too.
too much logicy math, too little arithmetic math. Well, at least its hard-ish but slightly interesting, rather than unseatily easy but boring
This guy is madd smart.. classes can be hard and confusing but still smart...
Mr. Stern is the man. Easily the best teacher I've had in Stuy.
This guy is amazing. He's so smart and nice. By far, the best math teacher ever.
Mr. Stern is the best math teacher i ever had. He's extremely smart, cool and nice. his class is very fun. He's GREAT!
THIS GUY IS THE MAN!!! I learned so much in his class, and he's really helpful......He's a good research professor too!!!
Mr. Stern is a mathematical genius and a wonderful person, but he expects, often, too much. SOmetimes he forgets in some classes that we are merely freshmen.
easy teacher... i fell asleep in class every single day still got 90. he has long boring lessons
extremely smart.really cool, and he teaches a lot of interesting stuff
Mr. Stern is a very good teacher in all aspects except that he takes a VERY long time to return anything back to you. However, he's extremely smart and clever.
he's sooo nice... but his lessons get a bit complicated sometimes
The most knowledgable teacher I've had so far in Stuy, although his lessons are often extremely difficult. He's also a really nice guy, and he was in the marines.
