I had her for Geo H, and all in all she isn't bad, but the tests are HARD. She teaches the curriculum well, but expects you to bridge the material on your own, something I don't really like. If you have her for Geo... Good Luck
Ms. Choy knows what she's doing, super organized. Great at explaining. I'm in Geo H, tests are really easy if you study, and unlike what other reviewers claim, everything is in the textbook + review packet. Don't expect to get an A without some effort. Class goes slowly, wish it were harder.
I'm taking pre-Calc now and we just had a quiz but were only allowed 20 minutes! Her tests and quizzes are way too difficult. I am a good student, plus I have a good tutor and understand the material. But her tests are way out from left field. She is really nice and always willing to help but $#@! her tests! She must be getting us confused with BC lane students! Hey, we aren't math majors and this is a REGULAR lane class! So much for my solid 4.0 GPA. Why do teachers do this to us?!
I don't really find myself being engaged in her class... she's just goes on and on, and it gets pretty hard to follow what she's saying after a while, because I get so bored. The tests? Don't even get me started on them. Somehow I'm managing a B, while getting bad grades on all three tests.
I've only been in Ms. Choy's class for a month, so I'm probably not the most credible person to write a review. Ms. Choy is an okay teacher and is really willing to help you. The geo H tests have been super rough. DOes anyone have any advice at all on how to get through the semester?
Goals! Ms. Choy makes math so fun and she is so lively it makes you really interested in the class. Her accent isn't that bad and you get used to it really quickly anyways. Yes, the tests are hard which can be frustrating but this seems to be how most palo alto high school honors lane math tests seem to be; much harder than material taught. But, she is so great and her diagrams literally perfect!!
Very knowledgeable and kind teacher. Her accent might be hard to understand at first, but you get used to it quickly. Her tests are very hard though. High textbook use.
Ms.Choy is a pretty good teacher. there are def worse teachers. she is nice. she is funny. she is just not the best teacher. she does regurgitate the textbook. BUT THE TESTS. OMG. they are about 7000 pages long and you have like 1 hour to do them. The tests dont even correlate to the textbook they are above college level if that is even possible for a 9th grade class. I like choy, i just dont like the class.
Choy is ok as a teacher, but there are definitely better. For example, her tests are so damn hard that she routinely boosts them so everyone doesn't fail. Doing the homework and studying out of class is not enough. 1/3 of the class drops the 1st quarter. The main issue is that you have no way of preparing for tests. You can do challenge problems, work online, get a tutor, and everything else and still have no clue how to do half the test. Oh, and it also doesn't help that the tests are gigantic.
wow, ms choy ms choy. great personality, love her for that but her accent is so difficult and basically she is a sucky teacher because all she does is read the textbook to us. I COULD DO THAT she never thinks outside the box, and dont even get me started on her tests. a B on a test is like getting an A on any other test from any other teacher, getting a c makes you happy. this class is appauling, i really wish i had ms bowers
Geo H is really hard and fast paced, sometimes we'll have double lessons AND go over hw AND do classwork. Her test are frequently really hard, so she'll add 3-5 percents back if everyone does poorly, which seems fair to me. She also lets you earn points by volunteering to do work or erase the boards. She's very helpful when you have questions, and never makes you feel dumb for asking basic questions. She should be a little stricter with people that don't pay attention in class though.
Didn't explain geometry very well at all. Impossibly hard to guess what she wanted on the tests.
Nice. At the beginning it was hard to understand her accent but you get used to it. Her tests aren't that hard if you pay attention. Feels like the class moves fast but that may just be because it's math... ASK QUESTIONS and you'll be fine
60% of grade on tests which most students fail. she does not teach so that you can be successful on the tests even if you do well on the hw. or tutor outside of class. Best to find a another teacher that allows you to be successful with hard work.
Choy is pretty chill. Her lectures are very similiar to the book work, but if you have clarifying questions she is generally pretty helpful. As a whole BC is pretty difficult but it is doable if you study. I haven't needed to ask for much extra help but I would imagine she would be pretty accesible
Ms. Choy can be strict at times, but it appears to be that this is a result of students abusing the incredible amount of leeway that she gives her students. Some of her exams can be challenging, but you can get As on them if you actually work through the homework assignments instead of copying them from the solutions manual. She also really understands the material, so go to her during Tutorial if you feel you need some help grasping the concepts. 5 on AP test is a cakewalk after her class.
I have her for BC Calc. She basically teaches straight out of the textbook. Doesn't care if you leave during class (but don't miss a pop quiz!). She makes difficult math easy to understand (but I tend to forget it). All her work is germane to her subject (no random useless group projects, etc.) Not especially difficult in general, although it isn't extremely easy. She makes a lot of jokes (sometimes funny), but apart from that is not very interesting. Doesn't make mistakes when grading tests.
I learned a lot in BC with her, and her knowledge was presented in a clear and logical manner to us.
Not the clearest teacher in the world and definitely not the easiest out of them all. No partial credit on tests. She goes through everything quickly and hard to follow.
Sometimes she ignores you on purpose. And she thinks it's funny when she's sassy but to the kid who's being yelled at to shut up it just discourages them. Not very nice.
Nice and understanding but strict when it comes to proofs. She doesn't give partial credit on tests. Overall very hard class unless you are really gifted at geometry.
A nice teacher but a brutal class. Tests are graded harshly, but fairly. She doesn't care what you do during class time as long as it is not disruptive.
She grades very strictly on tests, but she has a great sense of humor and generosity, though she sometimes expects students to understand more quickly than they actually can. Her teaching style means that we have to become more precise and understand math more deeply.
She is a funny teacher, but she has almost no control over the class.
Tests are HORRIBLY DIFFICULT! for high lanes, at least. Don't let anybody tell you she's a good teacher if you're going into a high lane class (I'm in Analysis H) Her tests don't reflect her teaching!
she doesnt explain well. she will explain one form of a problem in class and suddenly expect everyone to be able to do it for hw. confused me about things i already knew from the year before.
Ms. Choy doesn't do much for students who aren't already great at math. She doesn't explain well.
very helpful, and makes class hillarous. probably my favorite math teacher.
Really smart and knows everything... She did a few long and cool proofs from memory!
She appears very hard at first but she gives breaks and exceptions.
Her tests are hard but they train you well.
mrs. choy is the master at explaining the material in a fun way ai! although the tests are hard, she knows her stuff. she can literally solve any problem.
i <3 ms choy. she actually knows what she's doing. listen to her lectures, take notes and you'll do fine. and ask her questions if you don't get something...
unclear. didn't teach well. sometimes had an idea of what she was teaching. not very helpful to students. hard tests. made me unable to add.
Best teacher ever!! I love ms choy she's so funny Ai!
the best math teacher ever, for academic, and comical reasons.
awesome. just plain great. my favorite ever. so funny!
Hard tests, but is the best at explaining. And is also really funny. Best math teacher I've ever had.
Ms. Choy is sooo awesome! She's one of the best math teachers i've ever had. she actually like, explains things!! I don't see why other ppl don't like her.
She was ok. She gave out really hard tests but she's a good teacher, she trains you to be the best.
I miss her!! I had her last year and she was so cool. Don't let ANYBODY tell you she is a bad teacher, she is one of the best at Paly.
Shes pretty nice, but that doesn't make her easy at all. Her tests are so hard and annoying
