She is quite knowledgable if only she could teach that knowledge better. She is such a rushed teacher and never knows what she is doing.
She really taught us a new topic the day before the final....
Very bad teacher. Never teaches, never grades, loses half your papers. The class is supposed to be easy, but since she never bothers to teach the key concepts, you have to self study. Behind all the other classes. Not sure why she hasn't been fired yet.
I love Julie (I coined that phrase with my best friend by the way). But Pomerleau is a great teacher. Sure there are other amazing teachers at Uni, but pom pom is really nice, and if you ask for help she WILL help you. Sure she doesn't update grades often, I love her class because even though it's a lot of self study, she's a FREAKING GENIUS in so many subjects, and honestly if you put in the work an A is absolutely attainable.
Also, it's insane how much Mrs. Pomerleau knows about EVERY field.
Do not under any circumstances allow your student to have her as s teacher. She does NOT grade labs, just averages in lab grades after the fact, by mid semester parents are complaining to administration in droves over lack of graded material & adequate teaching. She does teach, but is poor at it...misses key concepts, ineffective at communicating material. As an advanced stepping stone class, your student will miss an entire year of chemistry education because she can't be bothered.
Although the course is designed to be easy and the material is not challenging, the course is taught without attention to detail as lectures are often missing for key concepts, tests include material not covered, and labs/assignments are often lost/ graded very late. Little is done to accommodate individual needs, my worst experience at uhs.
The most incredible teacher I've had in my academic career.
Nah, who am I kidding? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The only major tip to pass her class would be to rely heavily on outside sources (students with Bunch/Thomson, Khan Academy, Crash Course etc.); the worksheets she uses to make students teach themselves often are not sufficient.
And expect heavy anxiety regarding your grades right up until the semester final because you more than likely don't have a grade in the class yet.
She's a super nice person but cannot teach.
I don't really get the negative reviews for ms. pomerleau? yes, we're behind the other classes, but she explains everything very clearly and thoroughly to make sure we understand it. always there during OH. and helpful during freework time during class. reasonable grader. one time most of the students misread a lab question and didn't answer it correctly.instead of marking everyone off, she gave us time to redo it. she gives out a good amount extra credit. overall good person n teacher
OMG Pom is the BEST!!!! I LOVE HER!! She doesn't waste a single moment in class and shes willing to dedicate her time and drop EVERYTHING in order to ensure our success in life. She is also a very nice person and genuinely cares about you. Overall, although she may have some faults, she is a good teacher and honest statement, this will be one of the best classes ever!
Her class itself will be a breeze, you can sleep, do other homework, talk. But then she pulls these tests with information you never even heard of. She inputs grades sporadically, so your grade can randomly drop. And labs were graded strangely and unfairly, usually giving an grade A lab a C or D. Overall, her class was a frustrating experience because we wasted 50 minutes of class time every day and were 2 months behind schedule. Just study by yourself and enjoy basically having a free period
You unlock this door with the key of sophomore year. Beyond it is another dimension - a dimension of poor lectures, a dimension of impossible tests, a dimension where logic does not apply. You're moving into a land of shadow, without substance, things, or ideas. You've just crossed over into ...
... the Pomerleau Zone.
Mrs. Pomerleau is a nice person, however she does not teach well at all. If you get her, try your best to switch out. I've had her for two years. I want to be a science major but because I had her for 2 entire years, I'm afraid that goal will be very difficult to achieve. She uses other teacher's tests so do not expect anything easy and grades lab papers either easily or ridiculously hard.
We are two months behind the other teachers. We have the same midterm tomorrow. GG
Terrible. Only because she doesn't tell us what is on the tests, then when it comes, we are unprepared and fail it. She doesn't grade them in time, so its hard to prepare for a final. She is a nice person, but the worst teacher I have ever had.
Ms. Pomerleau is not a great teacher by any standards. All of her classes are at least 2 weeks behind the other teacher's classes and she does not teach the topics well either. Her method of teaching is confusing as well and she does not answer questions very well. Most of the time, your question is answered indirectly (she doesn't give you a direct answer to your question). The class itself is difficult only because the teacher does not know what she is teaching and how to teach it.
I have never really enjoyed ms. pomerleau's class. Science used to be a subject that i loved, but after attending her class, its not exciting to me anymore. Her grading method is pointless, her tests are unrelated to the subject being tested on, labs are a waste of time, and the is no homework (not that i want any)- however, in this case, having homework may be a better route because student might as well try to tech themselves than waste an hour in her class.
She throws us in class work to do and expects us to know what to do. There has been a couple of days where she leaves us with a sub and gives us work we've never seen before. This results in having Mrs. Bunch to come in and teach us (bless her) and we may finally understand. She's nice, no doubt about it but all she ever does is stare at the ceiling or wall or whatever when she lectures and never looks at her students.
pretty much spends the entire time stamping your homework, and we don't even go over it to see if it's right... if you ask for help she'll help you, problem is you need help with EVERYTHING because she doesn't even teach!
i took her for chem. she helps you if you need help, but her notes are pretty good so you don't need really any help. the one problem is that the final and midterm are all concept based, while the rest of the tests and quizzes and hw are math based so they are hard.
tests and quiz not hard . she gives nice notes to study :). she gives lots of practice w/ worksheets. always answers questions, helpful, and nice.takes off points for not doing hw right. if u want a good grade, are responsible, and pretty smart, then the class should not be hard. easy A or B
Eh. That's all I can say. She's nice and all, but she wastes so much time in class, doing all her grading, that the STUDENT feels guilty about not doing anything. She is always behind other teachers, and absent a lot.
I found being in her CP class to be mind-numbingly cursory. We'd spend the first 10 minutes stamping HW and the rest talking. The hardest part of the class was keeping my homework neat enough. Frequently absent and somewhat infantilzing, always weeks behind in grading tests. Perhaps not her fault.
She's pretty easy, very hard on grading, you don't get grades back for tests or quizes for about two weeks mininum. Overall she's nice though. What I don'y like about her is that her honors class is far behind the regular class of most other teachers, so I do not learn as much for Ap chem next year.
Yeah her class is hard sometimes but shes an overall good teacher. I liked her when i had her
I think Mrs. Pomerleau is a good teacher who knows her stuff. I definitely learned a lot about chemistry from her. One drawback is that she doesnt round grades. Other than that, I learned a lot.
Can be picky, but if you figure out what she wants you can be a B easily. she knows quite alot too.
mrs. pomerleau is a awesome teacher. she helps out (like CS 2 )with other stuff other than chemistry also. the only flaw i can see in her is that she takes time in passing out her tests / quizes but she also gives out passes when you are late. she is over all a really good teacher.
There is truth to what everyone says about her being very picky and such. But I would regard her to be a competent, caring teacher. Better than most.
i have to admit, beg. of year i was a bit skeptical ... but i adjusted to her class, and it turns out shes a great chemistry teacher who knows her stuff, and has a great personality too!
good teacher. Get on her good side and she will love you forever.
shes freakin hard and grades tests and quizs way to slow and is picky about points and grades down what teacher does that!
overall, a great individual, but she's very picky about writing in ink all the time, and takes a lonnnng time to grade tests/papers. pay attention! (cs1,h.chem)
graduated 03. absolute WORST science teacher EVER. not responsible..keep track of your own grades.
this teacher thinks she's teaching a straight college course!
Nicer, you must be! Or bad marks, recieve, you shall
absent the day before a major test...tomorrow the final, where're our grades?
learned so much from her! she's so awesome and nice!
Toughest teacher i ever had. Very nice though. Be nice people.
Good Teacher in terms of helping people. Keep the rows clear though.
made me dread waking up every because she's was my 1st period warden.
very smart teacher, very thorough in her teaching. she's so nice too!!
tough teacher, but a really kind person outside of class!!
really nice teacher OUSIDE of class, but inside, WATCH OUT!
ummmm.... hard to say.... i never liked any kind of science though
