I had Mr. Koci about 2 years ago for Calc BC. He had favorites, was very harsh on grading, and gave absurd amounts of useless homework. At the time I was too busy trying to do well in his class without realizing how awful it really is. I received my first and only B. I had thought that "I guess I'm just not good in math". 2 years later after attending a top 20 undergrad and taking multi, physics E and M, etc. (all of which I did well) I realized just how lousy Mr. Koci and his class really was.
heavy heavy favoritism especially towards female athletes. if you're a girl, make sure you smile a lot and laugh at his jokes, trust me i speak from experience. super harsh grader but if you come up to him a lot and show you care about your grade he'll help a ton if he likes you. if you're not a girl i'm so sorry. not the worst teacher but definitely not the best
Too much homework. No specific directions on exams and unfair grading to some. U have to be there to know what I'm talking about. Heavy favoritism and rest of the students don't exist.
Unfair grading and favors heavily on few students. Avoid him if you can. Disappointed with him and few other teachers at Troy.
Definitely there are rumors of his favoritism towards girls. Up to you if you want to believe or not.
Lots of hw, insists on showing work, once lost points for writing y= instead of f(x)=.
Left-handed, so after writing something he covers it with his hand. You have to go quickly when taking notes, and if you miss something, you have to wait for his hand to move. A frequent complaint.
Tries to connect with the students, comes off as awkward and strange.
An average teacher.
Not a bad guy personality-wise, good notes, and knows his stuff. Terrible grading system, though. He gives tons of homework only worth 2 points. Poor effort gets you 1 point, but poor effort can mean "you missed a step" or "you only did half the problems." Same picky grading on tests - miss 1 step and it's 2/4 on the problem. Some smart kids end up getting lower scores than the average kids - they get more problems right but lost more points total because of lots of little deductions.
Mr. Koci's a cool teacher. He's really strict on tardies and stuff but besides that, he's really good overall. His tests are fair and he gives you plenty of opportunities to raise your grade in his class.
A very very calm and collected guy, and an extremely kind teacher. It is true that his hand does block the screen but u cannot blame him for that. Overall great teacher.
he is the worst teacher who has ever lived. WAY TOO PICKY!!
Freshmen...why criticize a teacher for being left-handed? That's a very shallow approach to life.
His teaching approach is very cloudy, especially in Algebra 2. He speeds through the problems like it's really easy, while they really ARE for him. Not necessarily for the class. Not to mention his left hand always blocks the
mr koci is a very obnoxious teacher! first of all he is left handed so his hand is always blocking the math problems!! also, when grading he often puts in that you didn't do homework when you did. so you have to show him that
I think he is a great guy with a random sense of humor that sometime catches you off guard.
His thorough lectures and homework really help you grasp the hard calc concepts so by the time you get to the chapter tests, they're pretty doable. Excellent teacher, very nice.
great math teacher. lectures help you understand calculus and he really prepares you well for the ap test. a bit awkward the first day but a nice guy; can be quite funny once he gets to know the class
Knows his subject well, but teaches it way too fast. Plays favorites. That said, he means well and will give you help if you ask for it. A generally nice person.
I am now a graduate student in mathematics and I do credit Koci for introducing me to calculus. If you do the homework and understand it, you will easily do well in his class. That said, Koci should be fired. He is not fair.
Enthusiastic, makes corny jokes, and rather interesting. Class material is fairly easy and tests are direct and straight from his lectures/notes. Homework is a bit heavy but I guess the tests make up for it.
kind of mean. obviously has favorites. but he's a good teacher.
He does know his stuff, but he gives many many homework questions and is very picky. In the end, it pays off though, as you remember all of the formulas. He says "ok" a lot.
Great teacher. He can go over material a little too quickly, but he really prepares you for the AP Calc test. Always willing to help you out if you don't understand something.
He is an OK teacher. Standard teaching w/ notes in an Honors class doesnt cut it though. His grading policy on HW is devistating for grades due to being unproportional to the amount of work.
R U SERIOUS?! HE DITCHED US FOR RACE ACROSS AMERICA...NOT TO MENTION HE MARKS OFF HW FOR NO REASON! OH AND HE MADE ME WRITE THE QUESTIONS ON MY HW...WHO DOES THAT?!
knows what he's talking about, but assigns way too much hw, and more time is spent writing the notes than understanding them
not good. probably the most boring person that you will ever meet. Huge favoritism. Notorious for long homework assignments worth close to nothing. Pretty easy tests.
boooo. expects all his students to be perfect and thinks that he's teaching a bunch of 3rd graders.
His teaching is pretty clear and thorough. There is a little favoritism, but it's not too bad.
seriously, he is the most picky of people ever. This is math not English, we don't need to write sentences and one less step doesn't make your answer or your work wrong. Ugh
dude, if the homework is worth nothing, than why make them such long assignments? One wrong step and minus 1 out of 2 points? What the heck?
Tests are somewhat challenging, but good overall. A great teacher, but kinda wierd overall vibe at first. Favoring does happen sometimes, but if you're not favored, you won't suffer too much. Good AP prep for AB and BC.
he's hard but a good teacher. he knows what he's talking about. just get on his good side
Smart teacher, if u r smart, u will do well and learn a lot from him. if not -.- good luck and work hard to maintain ur grade to stay in honors >.>
He teaches quite well, and I understand it, but somehow I never do well on his tests. He's scary and favors atheletes (not me).
He definitely has favorites and if he doesn't like you, you're pretty much screwed. This guy teaches and writes so freaking fast it is hard to keep up in this class.
He could definitely work on the personality, but as a teacher, he gets the job done.
acts like he noes his stuff, wen he really doesnt. if u do ur hw tho, u'll get an A. calc was the easiest class ever.
Got to admit he knows his stuff, but his teachings leave a lot to be desired. Takes way too many points away from puny, insignificant errors. Lighten up!
A helpful teacher but definately shows favoritism. If you're not super smart or don't play a sport, he acts like you dont exist.
Prepares students for college, helpful, but gives excessive HW. Tests for Calculus are hard. Seems to favor some students over others. Dont get on his bad side.
HE IS SOOPER HARD. HE HATES ME. STUDY 3-4 HRS FOR EACH ALDEBRA 2 TEST~
great teacher... nice too... just need to understand him
man...if he he keeps saying alls you gotta do is... , i seriously will...
Good teacher but should definitely be a lot less strict about the grading and give a lot less homework.
lots of hw, doesn't enjoy his job- u can tell (for 5th period)
Lot of work, you have to be a smart one for him to like you.
he's better teaching his calc class than he was for alg II..friendly, funny
Good guy, good teacher, a little strict on work though
not approachable, bright man but needs to improve people skills a lot!!!
Cool guy, but dont ask him to show you what an absolute graph looks like
nice teacher, but ZZZZzzzzzzzzzzz....... What? oh? Why did I just fall
Still having nightmares from the day he raised his arms, exposing armpits...
need to stop talking about son and talk about daughter
needs to explain topics before moving on to the next one
