straight up boring. I particularly hate the days when he just lectures. Despite that, he is very knowledgable and, when he gets distracted, is actually pretty interesting. He is usually just a monotone teacher, but when he shows his real personality, he is super cool. We are very well prepared for the AP test. If you just do the outlines well and participate a little, you will do well. Good luck if this is your first AP class because he does NOT teach DBQ or LEQ.
Condescending and irritating. Oddly gets into fights with his students to prove his opinions.
He often complains about lack of participation, but if your view is different than his he shuts you down. He never admits his mistakes and usually contradicts himself in is "self-defense". Participation is both his solution and complaint.
I can tell he is very intellectual. He knows his stuff. For APUSH he expects us to know dates. I don't think that is the write way to gain knowledge. Memorizing the whole textbook does not allow effective recall. Some students can memorize and some are better at apply the knowledge. I would use these two strategies at the same time. For some reason I did way better on AP Euro DBQs than APUSH DBQS. An ok teacher. He is cool guy.
Absolutely boring man who does not prepare you for the AP Exam and instead focuses on tiny bits of information that he mentions in class to test you on. He has a huge ego. He wants the image of being "hard, quirky, but effective", but he only pulls off being difficult for no reason.
The best way to succeed in AP Gov is to thoroughly do the outlines, study for the daily quizzes, and actually copy all of the Powerpoint notes. The exam is much easier than the class itself, but it's actually a good thing because in that way, you're overpreparing--after the daily quizzes and the unit tests Berkenkotter gives you, the exam in May is a cakewalk. Berkenkotter can be boring, but paying attention even a little bit goes a long way.
AP Gov is an easy class. The test is cake compared to the other history tests. As a result, Berkenkotter is an easy professor. Don't freak out too much. Honestly, a fourth of the time in class is spent watching The Daily Show and Futurama.
Pay your dues, bust out the homework (during tutorial, if you're daring), blaze through the readings to do well on the quizzes, and you'll be a-ok for this class.
His AP US class was the biggest joke of an AP class I had. Especially after AP Euro. Thing though is that he tries to make his US class like his AP Gov class. If you have him for AP US it can be fairly easy to get an A. However, don't be a lazy moron with the outlines, because the outlines count for most of the grade and they can help you with tests. I'm not sure what he'll do next year. He said there will be some changes. But when I had him for US.....well it was a piece of cake.
Awesome person, but not a good teacher. Berkenkotter doesn't have very continuous thoughts, and is easily side tracked, often not finish his sentences. For APUS he just reads out of his own review boo
Very smart man, also very boring, he challenges you thats for sure. If you dont read the textbooka nd know it word for word your screwed, also he talks like a human textbook, (BORING)
If you get this teacher, GOOD LUCK. This guy is one of the most boring teachers at Tesoro. He makes the tests hard and if you do not read the textbook word for word you will not get an A or B. His Powerpoint presentations put you to sleep.
boring class. he doesn't help much and often contradicts himself while lecturing. switch in to regular history/economics and you'll be better for it.
Mr. Berkenkotter is a funny man. His digressions make the class more interesting. However, his infamous powerpoints do become monotonous. The end.
He definitely has his good days and his bad days. The class isn't hard yet somehow he manages getting an A in his class difficult or at least seem that way until the end.
boring lectures, but slightly entertaining the first few times he tells his stories... but those get old fast too
Good teacher, however struggles at relating to all of his students. Makes an effort to make class mroe difficult than necessary.
He grades you based on what you don't have... instead of what you do have. It's like you are guilty until proven innocent when he grades your essays. His grading is so arbitrary.
Very offensive when he is criticized. But he is an okay teacher.
Had him in 7th and 11th grade, really good teacher but he's strict.
Has plenty of interesting mannerisms, and tends to be quite funny, esp. if he's not trying to be. And uh, lectures are supposed to be boring. Duh.
CLASS IS NOT TOO HARD. CLASS IS BORING, BUT BERK IS A COOL GUY.
haha although he may have the voice that puts you to sleep i've found that he actually is a pretty cool person when he is not teaching. funnnny guy
I am a junior and I am praying that they will hire another AP Gov teacher because I REALLLLY don't want to have him. I had him in jr. high and he was terrible.
His class is a waste of time. Make sure you bring something to do in there, because he lectures the whole time. You really teach yourself the material. BORING!
Fine but seriously can put me to sleep instantaneously when he starts lecturing
he does not know how to teach. Do not get him. His class is extremely boring and pointless
I had Mr. Berkenkotter for 7th and 8th grade, too! He's the best!
I love Mr. Berkenkotter! I learned so much and had a ton of fun, especially in eighth grade! Berk, I hope you're reading this because you're the best!
I had him for 7th and 8th grade and he taught us so much. that man can run a debate like no other, he treats you like adults and has the best sense of humor
i had berkenkotter in jr high, and he was the best teacher i have ever had. you may think hes hard, but he teaches you so much. and his personality is so funny.
