I had Ms. D'Amico in 7th grade, and she was, by far, my favorite teacher. She taught very clearly and was always willing to give help to anyone who needed it. She is also an extremely kind person and is there for everyone if they need someone to talk to. She does grade harshly, but it motivated me to work very hard, and, as a result, I was very happy with my final grades. Make sure you work hard and ask for her help when you need it, and you will have a blast!! Her English class is amazing!
She is a very good teacher. Although she is a harsh grader, she really helps you learn and become a better writer. She is someone who is easy to talk to and will give you help if you need it. She gives good warning for exams and papers. Also, she really knows what she is doing. She is the best teacher I have. I love her.
Ms. D'Amico is an incredibly intelligent, clear, and engaging teacher who is well-versed in every aspect of the English language. She is super helpful to all students, and has taught me so much throughout the year so far. Her exams are given with good warning and helpful preparation, but it does help to study hard. I would recommend Ms. D'Amico to anyone.
Really informative and good and facilitating thoughtful discussion. She's a harsh grader, but very clear and substantive in her feedback and gives opportunities for rewrites. Her one issue is that she tends to reject less conventional interpretations of texts, and will mark down anything outside her opinion/common opinion of the themes as "not the author's intent"
Ms. D'Amico is an incredibly knowledgeable teacher with massive experience in teaching English, and she is great at it. She knows how teach a class in an educational and fun way, and gets you thinking incredibly deeply about class topics. She never gets mad, and is helpful and clear about class work, on top of being extremely supportive of students and what they hope to achieve. She is a very tough grader, so you will have to work hard in her class, but she is certainly an outstanding teacher!
GREAT Teacher. Tough grader, but really nice person.
Ms. D'Amico is awesome in every sense of the word. Although she is a really harsh grader, she will try to help and support every student's English skills. She really knows her stuff, and she always works to make everyone improve in their thinking capacity. She's great!
picks favorites, strict teacher, but knows her stuff
She is an amazing teacher. We always thoroughly discuss things in class and any opinion is welcomed. Her grammar quizes are actually quite easy if you study for them. Although some people said she was a harsh grader, I feel her grades are nearly always very fair and reflect your work. She is also a kind person.
Ms. D'Amico is the most experienced teacher I had ever had. She may be a tough grader at times but overall, she is one of the best teachers (in terms of teaching skills). In class, she is often humorous and her classes are very engaging. She is a little strict at all and she is not an easy grader. She is VERY fair and also caring. She is one of the best teachers I have ever had. If you are a student that's wants to learn a lot, I recommend her.
Ms. D'Amico is an excellent english teacher who has helped me (and the rest of my class) understand the principles of the english language that much better. She can be a little strict and you have to work hard, but overall I would highly recommend her to any student.
She is very smart, but writes in cursive which is difficult to read. She engages our class in interesting and comprehensive discussions. I like her, but a lot of our classmates do not. She is a tough grader and will call you out on small errors. It is good for learning purposes, but her class is not an easy A (I did get an A- though)
I have her for seminar and she takes it WAY TOO SERIOUSLY.
During junior year, Ms. D'Amico taught me more about how to write than any other English teacher. If you work hard (legitimately, without getting too absorbed in your whining), then an A- is within reach (it was for me, even though I suck at English)
A little too big on 'textbook-teaching'. During discussions she gives us a part of the book to interpret, she basically ignores all the original ideas, and we would've learned the same if she just listed down everything, never really 'discussed'. I found her grammar quizzes hard, and she never really explained, just gave us textbooks and handouts that had definitions and made us do problems. But she is nice and helps you with problems, just overall pretty close-minded and repetitive.
Ms. D'Amico is by far one of the best, most amazing teachers I have ever had. I don't feel that there is a need to say much more--I LOVED having her as a teacher and cried when I found out she was going on maternity leave.
I'm saying this as someone who likes Ms. D'Amico as a person: I disliked this class. Yes, she is a good writing teacher, and can make you a better writer with her edits. However, she has very little imagination. She rejects any remotely original interpretation, saying that it wasn't the author's intent. Classroom discussions are uninteresting and led mostly by her rather conservative ideas. She also interrupts people while they're speaking. I love English, but this hasn't been enjoyable for me.
Notoriously harsh grader. To quote her, she has "very strong views on literature" and will resist contrary interpretations of the book. Your best bet is to take careful notes on what she says in class, and then tell it to her in her paper.
Also, I mean, do you really want to be really good at telling people what you think someone else is trying to say through a hazy and fuzzed veil of fiction?
Taught me a lot, even though she was kinda tough. Although I thought I sucked at english until i went to 8th grade and realized that she was just a really harsh grader. But she's awesome!!
Even though I'm crying on the inside, I'm also crying on the outside. Her class causes me internal brain hemorrhages.
not a very fair teacher. but does try to help out the students. i cannot say that i like her, but she isnt a really bad teacher.
A tough teacher, but she works hard and makes english easier in future grades. Of course she is tough, but she is fair
nice teacher, really harsh grader, but cuts you some slack if you're late or talk in class
she is beyond intelligent and she will help you with your writing so much. I like that she puts on an army cap when she drills you with grammar exercises.
Ms. D'Amico is a great teacher, but she picks favorites, and she's very transparent about it. There were three kids in my class who had to make a real effort to get below a 90 on any essay, while everyone else was working their butts off to get an 80, and for no good reason. Though by the end of the year she did level off somewhat.
Teachers like Ms. D'Amico are the kinds of teachers that make students excel in English. Although she is VERY TOUGH when it comes to grading homeworks, quizzes, projects, and all other things you hand in to her, she helps you understand the proper format for writing something / grammar and only takes off points for valid reasons. Ms. D'Amico also has a FUNNY side - she cheers up the class in harsh times, keeps us awake all period, and jokes around like a kid! Whoever has Ms D'Amico is VERY lucky. =) -B.M
Ms. D'Amico is an amazing English teacher. She really tries to help students who struggle with writing/analysis, and she values those who give effort and participation. That element of class is really essential--->>PARTICIPATE as much as possible. Not just to talk, cuz she won't appreciate that, but saying what you think with evidence is always great. She's super nice and very helpful, but don't abuse the privilege. Don't expect A+ very often, as she's a very tough grader, but she helped my writing a lot!!
ms. d'amico is so dedicated to her work and brings an incredible energy and passion to everything she does. smart, funny, tough but kind. i wish all of my teachers were like her.
She's amazing at what she does, although she is definately strict and a VERY harsh grader. She's funny and you can tell she really cares about English and loves it wholly. Just make sure you hand in you homework on time, TAKE NOTES, pay attention in class and really work hard. She may not give you amazing grades for each homework/project, but she will reward you in your overal average in the end. Oh, and CONGRATS ON THE BABY, MS. D'AMICO!!
She is a REALLY HARD GRADER! I mean insanely hard. It is almost impossible to get a good grade on homeworks. In the beginning of the year she is very strict but as the year goes on she warms up a lot and gets really funny. She rarely talks down to us. I have learned to like her.
class is uncomfortable and tense, she completely ruined writing for me. Condescending and snarky.. Not funny. Not particularly nice. Way too critical, fails to see/understand big picture. I am really trying ot give her a chance, but so far, i really really really hate her class
She would be much better if she actually told us what she wanted from us for each paper. Each time its a mad guessing game to try and figure out what she wants, and its trial and error which results in hours and hours of unnecessary work. Plus, as has been said before, she sets insanely strict and arbitrary guidelines (that I will never hear about again in my life) for her essays that make it more like learning a whole new language just for her class than actually learning good writing skills.
Ms. D'Amico is the best teacher I've ever had, but it wasn't until college that I realized it. She has very high standards and helps students to meet them by encouraging and rewarding hard work. Her great, quirky sense of humor is a plus.
It is true that she is a hard greater but she is the smartest English teacher I've ever had and really nice too. Ms. D'Amico is awesome.
Fun and strict. No partial credit on tests. VERY harsh grader! (she took like 10 points off me for a mispelling) A class you really don't want to fail. Pay attention, raise your hand (or at least pretend you are actually listening) and you'll do fine. Watch out for those tests, though. Very hard, but worth it in the end. Trust me.
She's a really caring teacher who definitely keeps an eye on her students. If you're a problem student, she will make sure that you're not one anymore. She is a hard grader and rather strict but because she really wants to make sure her students are doing well, these qualities make her a good teacher. About the only bad thing is that her handwriting can get really hard to read sometimes. I'm pretty grateful to her for being an awesome teacher.
I'm now a senior in college, and I still think that her AP Lit class was one of the best classes I've EVER taken. If you enjoy lit and you're willing to work hard, take the class. No regrets at all.
She's a hard grader, but she's good at explaining and making sure you understand
She's great! She tells you everything you need to know to do well, she's pretty funny and entertaining, and she runs an awesome seventh grade class. Hard grader though.
She lets you know when you are good art english and tries to help you if you arent. if you need help with something ask. sheis very willing to make sessions with you after class.
hard grader and kinda strict but a nice person. very passionate about her subject and willing to give extra help
i agree that she is a little bit harsh when it comes to grading, however, because i am one of her favorites, i don't really see a problem with her. the one aspect of learning that i had difficulty with when she was my teacher was when we began writing our first FLE's. ours was on The Chosen, and because i hated the book, it didnt do well on the paper. I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK IN MARRIAGE!!! =)
She has a group of favorites and she totally shows it. It is the cool kids/alternative kids that she likes.
Best teacher I have ever had. She seems a little scary at times, but she's actually very nice, and obssessed with English. She nitpicks when grading, and gives a lot of work. But if you're good at English, she lets you know it. Best of all, she feels like a real person. You can talk to her about random stuff. And she tells funny stories and gets a kick out of the students. Very rewarding class.
i had her two years ago and now im in college and i STILL think about what she taught me. no joke, really influential teacher. wrote my rec. go to her for rewrites and help DEFINITELY. she scares me but i love her
LOVES MS. D'AMICO WHEN I HAD HER, SHES AN AMAZING TEACHER AND A VERY VERY COOL PERSON
amazing teacher, lyk i've improved in english class so much because of her and she's so nice to you if you're struggling adn stuff, but she is a bit harsh on the grading
Ms. D'Amico is awesome. I was scared at first, because eng is my best subject and I didn't want a B, but it's not hard if you know how to write-she gave me an A
shez kinda strict with the grading but overall shez a really good teacher.
I am learning and improving my writing soo much in her class. Annoying about half-done homeworks but she's got fun stories and she's beyond helpful.
I love this woman so much. She's definitely my favorite teacher. Ask her about her Jewish cat and "Lulu."
Tough grader, but she's so cool and a really good teacher.
Ms. D'amico is awesome. Shes really nice n funny, n has a gr8 sense of humor. Shes really neat, n teaches lots of boring things, but she always find a way 2 ma
totally harsh grader; but tries 2 make clases interesting :-)
This teacher is awesome! The best thing about her is the fact that she has a great sense of humor and is really easy to reach out to if you have a problem.
Ms. D'Amico is a really fantastic teacher. She gets through a lot of material and teaches you a lot while still keeping the lessons fun.
Intelligent and devoted. An admirable gift of professionalism, talent, and humor. Her aspiring ways make her one of the best teachers ever.
You'll hate her for pulling down your GPA with her extremely tough grading, but you'll love her in the end for making you a better English student.
ms.d'amico is hard, but cool. she's a tough grader, but she's one of the best teachers i've had...and probably one of the youngest...but she's nice. :]
If it weren't for Dr. Herbert, Ms. D'Amico would be the best teacher who ever lived. Oh, and she doesn't hate guys. She hates people with no opinions.
she can b hard at times, but overall she's a coool teacher!
awsome, she actually remembers what it's like to be a kid, which she still is sometimes, but at the same time she's a really talented teacher and she cares
Ms. D'Amico does not deserve her bad reputation. She's very smart, open-minded and fun. She's one of the better English teachers at Hunter.
