I worked with Mr Akers back in the early 90's. By far he is my most memorable teacher. I learned a lifetime from him about theater and really just dealing with people. He was instrumental in my lifetime of pursuing and experiencing the arts. If you think he is being difficult, you are not listening. If you think he plays favourites. You do not understand the theater. Anyhow, he was an absolute pleasure to learn from. Highly recommended.
My experience was ten years ago. I adored him, was cast in every show. But it took me years to realize he was sexually grooming me. He breaks the touch barriers during rehearsals and during shows when he jumps into the summer chorus roles. His behavior is public enough to offset alarm but intimate enough to build a bond. He treated me as an equal and took me up to the attic above the catwalk. Please, please be cautious with this man. He was fired in Tennessee for similar grooming.
One of the best teachers at ironwood
Akes is a wonderful teacher and has helped many students become wonderful actors. He's a bit tough, but you get used to it. Very knowledgeable.
I love Akes! I have been involved with theatre since my freshman year (now a senior) and Akers has taught me so much! I will never forget the things he has taught me! He will always be my favorite teacher ever! You will never find a more dedicated and passionate teacher around!
Mr. Akers is one of the best teachers at Ironwood. I have never had a teacher with a more astounding devotion to thier subject than Mr. Akers. In the beginning he can be a little difficult to read.
Akes is amazing...but super sarcastic. You just have to get past that I guess though because you learn to love him. He's ridiculously awesome!!
He's by far the most creative performing arts teacher I've ever had, and being in the musical this last year with him as a director has given me inspiration to continue stage performance.
He's a really, really great teacher.Me may play favorites a little bit, but I think most of them have reason. He's actually made an impact on my life, and I thank him for that.
Mr. Akers...he's very great director. But he is often a jerk. He plays favorites very often and really seems like he tries to make people feel stupid.
Plays favorites a bit too much.Made the class so un-fun. The same people(his favorites) always got parts, and the rest of us were screwed. Smart, but stuck up.
YOu'll love him or hate him.... He has favotires but don't risk your self or values trying to please him...it's not worth it. He is a brilliant man though!!!
If you want to learn about theatre, Mr. Akers is the best teacher in the state.
