Super nice guy and a great teacher!
Mr. Shaull is a force of nature. It's hard to completely like him (unless you get on MSS), but he teaches and pushes you so much as a musician and as a person that you can't exactly hate him either. Yes, he's an artist, so he gets moody pretty often, and even when you think you're doing your best he may not be satisfied. If you want to participate in LAHS choirs, prepare yourself for consistent commitment and a strong mindset. I am so grateful towards him.
Mr. Shaull has created an extremely unique choral department, one that actually takes itself seriously and leaves massive room for improvement. He focuses on individual improvement for his students and is clearly a very talented musician. However, do not sign up for his classes expecting an easy "A", as Mr. Shaull can be unforgiving at times if you are not giving your utmost effort. If you work hard in his classes to improve in singing, the sky is only the limit.
Mr. Shaull has extremely high expectations, but not any more than one should have of themselves. Teaches integrity and commitment that will last a lifetime. I have been out of high school for 20 years and much of what I have achieved is due to what he taught. Forever grateful for Mr. Shaull.
Overall I'd say he's a good teacher; he expects a lot from his students and he tends to play favorites (but let's face it, he's a choir director, he kind of has to) but he really does love singing and teaching high schoolers. How he teaches each day really depends on his mood, because sometimes he's really happy and choir is genuinely fun and sometimes he's having an off day and it's hard to achieve anything.
Mark Shaull is the best teacher i have ever had. He expects alot out of all of his students, and is willing to go beyond what most teacher do. His ability to to transform your voice into something beautiful amazed me.Lots of hard work but very rewarding. He teaches life lessons that have stayed with me. Also has a great sence of humor.
His classes are an incredible opportunity. Expect hard work that tangibly pays off. Do not enter his classes thinking they will be an easy A and a schedule filler.
Mark is the most dedicated teacher I have ever had. He may appear to be too hard while you are with him, but the lessons he teaches you stay with you for a lifetime. Integrity !
Mr. Shaull is an amazing teacher and runs an amazing vocal program, Main Street Singers. World wide respect, but VERY demanding.
As an alumni, I can say the most influencial teacher I have had is Mark. Year after year, he is able to turn a group of squeaky teenagers into a choir. Expect to work hard and expect results.
Puts way too much emphasis on singing, ignores your other courses, plays favorites a LOT, picks on struggling students, teaches very few secular pieces of music.
Mr Shaull is an awesome teacher. He works hard and expects his students to do the same.
Mr Shaull is the best teacher i have ever had. He is a huge influence on me, and my life. His guidance makes me want to achieve greatness
He's great at making singers...but he's satan. I quit singing at LAHS because of him. I couldn't go on singing for him and not for me. Wayyyy to cult-like.
one word: Satan. Explanation: singing becomes the only thing he cares about, not your academics. You will learn to sing well, though.
He is an OK teacher, but overdoes it in his imitations. He has really high expectations, even in beginner singers.
Great teacher but sometimes is very hard. The only way to describe him is that he is Mr. SHaull.
Mr. Shaull devotes his life to his students. He turns kids into professional singers. His work is truly amazing, although he can be unrealistically demanding.
This is a man who, as the director of an incredible high school choral department, has touched and changed so many lives. He certainly has a special gift.
mr shaull's class is great. as a mss i know that he really is helpful and helps your voice develop if you let him and dont submit to not doing your best
