Very good at teaching, he definitely knows what he's talking about and he is very entertaining. However, he does have his favorites (not complaining since I was one of them) :) Overall, he gives very good essay advice and will definitely enhance your english abilities.

He allows students to come to their own conclusions, but guides them along to articulate them. He also keeps the class very interesting so that we never lose focus.

Greatest teacher everhis knowledge of the text and easygoing demeanor makes the class very enjoying and engaging. Heck, he even creates his own reader instead of using a textbook. Chill dude, 10/10 would discuss literature with.

I don't think these categories are the best for evaluating a teacher. Either way, Mr. Van is one of those teachers I will remember for the rest of my life. He's my favorite teacher. I've been lucky to learn from him.

Mr. Van loves doing discussions in his class - like everyday. So if you don't like this style, don't take his English IV AP class! I am in his class right now, and can tell you that I am wishing I had taken a different English elective instead. This is first time I have ever received a grade lower than an A- in my high school English career, so good luck!

His classes are a lot of work, but every bit is worth it; he is one of the rare people who know how to teach and be funny concurrently in every class. If you need reason to go to IV AP, he is it.

Mr. Van is always there to support you when you need it. When you want someone to proof-read your essay, he will gladly discuss it with you during an off-period. He makes very good points on how to improve your writing and he is very articulate and clear in how he expresses his ideas. As an accelerated class, more work is expected of you, but as long as you put time and effort into your work and participate in class discussions you will do fine.
