I wanted to make it in TJHSST but they rejected me :(
Mr. Stueben is the best teacher at tj if you are smart
the class isn't that hard, but expect to get a D or F on your interims since he fails you for assignments that aren't due yet. also he sometimes makes things due without telling you. he thinks it's funny to give random assignments and basically does whatever the heck he wants. if you're willing to put up with a strange man who somehow is allowed to teach this class, then you'll have a good time.
Stueben is one of the best teachers at TJ.
To go into more detail, he has a wonderful personality and sense of humor. He goes out of his way to make sure everyone can connect with what he's teaching and does a lot of work outside of class. Last year when Torbert left to work for a year, he had to make up the entire Artificial Intelligence course as he went along, and it's in the top 3 of the cla
Great teacher-- don't be intimidated when you get your interim. Your final grade is always about 20% higher than your mid-quarter grades. Funny person with a bunch of great anecdotes to share.
Mr. Stueben is awesome. he made me love math. the class can be really intimidating on the first day, but stick with it. even if you feel like failing the class, his curve is extremely generous, so people end up with B 's and A's. but you basically learn everything but precalculus in that class. i got a C on the final, but still managed an A in that class. he also gives lots of extra credit!
Definitely one of the coolest teachers around. He always starts class with an unrelated video, and generally proceeds to lecture us, but in some way he manages to keep it interesting. Even when he gives 4 quizzes in one day, it's still awesome because you learn a lot. The class is a great learning experience, even outside of the subject matter he's teaching.
He gives a billion quizzes a day, but he's a really great guy. He's funny and is extremely helpful if you ask for help. Not the easiest class though.
Mr. Stueben is definetly one of a kind. He has such a strong character and is so funny and eccentric in his own way. You are really missing out if you do not get him. He may be tough, and some of his lectures are kind of confusing. And sometimes he does not even give lectures, just quizzes. But you somehow are forced to learn everything and have a great time too. It is mad interesting.
Because he curves the grades, it's not that hard to get an A in his class even if you fail the tests. I took Accelerated Comp Sci, and it was the best class freshman year. He's a pretty cool teacher and doesn't give a lot of homework.
AMAZING TEACHER! Just expect to fail, though. Do your extra credit and you should be fine.
He has very interesting insights about things. However, he scares me... He knows what he teaches and has enthusiasm for it, but he doesn't understand the limit of the students.
His class is painfully difficult and you will fail a lot, but he's a really cool person and one of the best teachers I've ever had.
As has been said before, you learn by failing in Stueben's class. This man truly understands how to teach. He knows when concepts are important, and when you need to memorize. He is a cool guy as well
He's a great guy, but his class was difficult. He couldn't seem to stay on topic and I had difficulty understanding him. Yet, thanks to his extra credit I managed to finish the year with a B+.
I had him for precalc and cut down on my careless errors a lot because of his class. He concentrates more on the problem-solving aspect of math. If you like math, he's a great teacher.
Love this guy! He's hard, and he killed my grade, but he's an amazing teacher, and a good friend now. I got a C+ in his class, yet he is writing my college rec. And I trust him to give me a great one.
Really hard teacher if you dont understand the subject already. Was in his geometry class and got a final grade of C+... but that was with a curve of about 50%...
reminds me of house a lot. Except funnier and doesnt hate the human race... his hate is directed more at children.
This man gets it, much like Stephen Colbert. He knows to learn his students not the other way round. Dedicated, witty, eccentric, brilliant, and loving. People who don't have this man have missed out
Does a bad job teaching in Computer Science ACC. Zero helpfulness. I came for tutoring and at lunch at least 10 times already and the help he gives, if any, doesnt clarify anything
Please, please, please, PLEASE don't switch out of precalc. I have always sucked at math, I have always hated math. I went against my judgement and didnt switch out. Best decision of the year.
easiest teacher ever. tests are pretty simple, quizes are rele easy. ull learn the stuff, and a bit more if u pay attention.uses a lot of russion textbooks. good teacher
Took Steuben's class 9 years ago... and I still remember it vividly. His teaching forces you to learn the material immediately, which feels rough at the time, but is the mark of an awesome teacher.
Mr. Stueben is the coolest teacher ever. I loved his quizzes, they were the highlight of my day, especially the ones that were multiple submission. If you're good at math, and you can't stand boring classes, switch into Stueben's math class.
Mr Stueben is the coolest math teacher I've ever had. He's really hard but he teaches everything really well. He doesn't use the book and has his own curriculum made of a lot of Russian textbooks. He is definately one of my favorite teachers.
Great guy...had Precalc, which wasn't too hard, but I understood every lecture...which is something I can't say about BC this year. Ask for help if you need it...he's not like the Devil, although his tests are intentionally tough. Study ahead of time for announced exams, it helps.
absolutely the coolest teacher i have ever had. hilarious, smart, and tough, he's the ideal teacher that everyone should have at some point or other.
an overrated teacher. he makes things hard not becaue he wants u to work harder but because he is pretty lazy.
Quizzes daily, tests designed to make you fail. Hm. Probably the best teacher I've ever had (Comp Sci and Precalc). His class is incredibly difficult, but if you pay attention you learn more than you thought possible. Class average is curved to 89%; do better than everyone else and you have at least a B+.
I can see how he might be a hard teacher for some, but if you're good at math/cs you'll be fine. I did fail a few quizzes at first, but I still got an A (in both CS and Precalc.) Plus, he gives basically no homework and his class is entertaining. At the very least, you'll have the best time failing his class. (Of course for most people here that probably means not getting an A)
Awesome. I can't emphasize that enough, but I can't use 'very' or 'truly' or 'quite'... not to mention 'it', 'thing', etc.
If you are good at math, get him. If you are bad at math, get out. He is a really awesome guy and a great teacher, but makes demands of his students that may be too great for the non-mathematically oriented to bear.
great class, though it can be frustrating, and a great teacher. a lot of personality. he will make you think, he will make you laugh, and he will make you learn.
He's a cool guy. His class can be difficult for those who are have insufficient ability in the mathematical arts but if one has any aptitude for math his class will be fine. It is true that we learned an inordinant amount of precalc in his CS class, but that's still useful and is great preperation if one takes his precalc class the following year (as I have done.)
This man is great. No extra junk - just teaches you math. I learned more math from Stueben than in all other math classes combined. Daily quizzes sometimes frustrating but you adjust (and everyone else is in the same boat).
Stueben is probably the best for math and CS in tj for the classes he teaches. He's easier than you think, just ask for help. A lot. And try to read his book- it's great, because you get to know him in 150 pages. Try to stay honest, do hw...Stueben rocks!
A lot of people complain that Mr. Stueben is impossibly hard, but I think his class is really easy. You jst do the work assigned and you get an A. I also like the way he teaches. I hope he teachers AP Physics or Calc next year so I can have him again.
uhh extremely hard!! and pretty strict - if u arent there by first second of class w/your hw out u get a 0. without ur name he rips the paper up..grammar on EC!
mr stueben is a very tough teacher, but thats why you learn so much. he is very funny ("what? my code doesnt have errors!"), which makes class more enjoyable.
One of the nicest math teachers at TJ, yet one of the hardest
I had both acc cs and pre-calc same year with him. He does not teach cs for the AP, so don't whine about that. Good teacher, scales to 89% so just beat the class
I love Mr. Stueben with every part of me and although I failed both midterm AND final, I STILL love him and understand more math than I ever have. Man,Ilovehim
I had him for precalc and Acc CS. Personally, i thought he is hands down the best teacher i've ever had. Class averages scaled up to 89%, so not too hard.
Class was always interesting, we were always active, and we learned so much more than just math. Not for the mathphobic, though. Don't switch out of this class!
okay, his compsci class is HARD esp. if you don't understand cs, but otherwise, you do learn a lot (especially math!). through failure, you learn.
Didn't really learn anything in CS. Didn't prepare us well for the AP and spent more time teaching us precalc than CS.
Great teacher. Don't drop his class if you do you will regret it. Takes a bit to get used to but you'll love it. Bizarely hard though, but in a good way.
At first I thought this class was terrible and difficult. I got used to his methods, and now it's a breeze and very fun.
After taking Stueben precalc, you'll realize how truly awful most of the other math teachers here are. Best. Class. Ever.
This guy is awsome! He was SO hard though, but he's just an awsome man.
This guy is seriously the most awesome teacher. the math difficulty part didnt throw me too much so i was able to enjoy the class while i was in it.
Stueben's class is quick-paced and relentless, and while it's really not for non-math people, he did help me with difficult topics in individual tutoring.
not many teachers admit that they're sadists...but mr. stueben is one of the best...you'll actually learn in his class, even though its REALLY hard...
Mr. Stueben is a one of a kind teacher. Hes hard but he'll try and help u understand. Plus hes hilarious in his own way.
While I was in his class, I sometimes hated it an found it pretty boring, but looking back, I think that I really enjoyed his class and learned a lot.
If you take his class seriously it will be by far the best math class you will ever take at TJ. If you don't take his class seriously, you won't survive.
One of the better teachers at the school. It starts hard and gets harder, but it's worth it in the end. Learned more in precalc and AccCS than any other class.
Mr. Stueben is THE best teacher I have ever had. Period. You actually LEARN in this class. You WILL not get an A in his class either. Whiners below are slackers
Didn't realized I liked math till I took this class and nearly failed out. Doesn't just read the book during class, actually teaches and makes you understand.
How can anyone say his class is awesome, my heartbeat doubled in his, worrying not if, but how many quizes we will have whats up with his tests being impossible
I know/understand more math than I ever have. Yet, I currently have an F... with the scale. So, it's a give-and-take situation, I suppose.
Whoah! Best class ever! He's hard... but so exciting. People who are parrots don't do well in his class, but otherwise it's just so cool! And I hate math.
Difficult class, is the personification of evil (not that this is a bad thing :bwahaha: ), and the best math teacher you'll ever have.
Pretty cool guy to talk to, but one of the worst teachers at the school. You dont learn anythingfrom him , and then the hard tests come.
greatest math teacher - hard grader, but you learn more material than you can imagine, his jokes are garbage, but mad extra credit makes up for it
I got a 5 on the AP, but a B+ for the year. If you can make it through the 1st semester, you'll be fine...
Can give new students a pretty hard time (APCS is probably not for every frosh), and will leave out material he deems uncessesary. Very smart and funny though.
I had Stueben for accelerated CS and I am planning on switching in to his precalc class. He is a very good teacher (you learn a lot) but he is also difficult.
v. hard class, cool guy, i learned an insane amount. if he works for you, he'll be the best math teach you ever have. if not, switch out and quick.
besides the fact that he's the devil, class is all good. You'll learn.
Very difficult class, but you learn a lot. After precalc with him, BC Calc was easy. If you want to learn and are willing to work, take his class.
definitely one of the coolest teachers at tj. His CS class (when it was AP at least) was hard, but he has as great dark sense of humor
The first problem of the year he gave us, the answer was 666. That pretty much describes Mr. Stueben in a nutshell. Good teacher, wierd sense of humor.
Great teacher- very hard, but you actually do learn, and he can be interesting. Multiple quizzes on stuff you've just learned, and hard tests, but great class.
Makes a very interesting class, teaches lots of things in an interesting way.
haha man, he's the most interesting math teacher yet. he at least tells jokes
Very hard but very fun, will make you love math. Minimal homework!
Hard! Has a great personality and a dark sense of humor. I actually learned.
Great personality, subtle humor, genuine person. Hard beyond belief, but helpful
He failed half my class first quarter. He gives unfair tests.
Hella hard, but definitely the best teacher I've ever had.
I enjoyed his class. A very good teacher, although difficult for some people.
