I took honors and it turns out I'm garbage at physics so the "hard" and "clarity" etc ratings might not be too accurate, but he's a nice dude. We were always behind McGunnigle's classes and didn't finish the course until around the last week, and I heard a lot of AP kids panicking when they were in the same situation near the exam.
I took honors. His teaching is disorganized. Sometimes he says important things and doesn't emphasize it. We do a lot of examples in class so if you learn those and pay attention, tests are easy, especially if you go to extra help. He's kind of boring sometimes. I did well on the regents because at the end you do a lot of practices and my grades were good. If you take AP you'll probably feel differently.
His physics 1-2 class is HARD, but justly so. That's the type of teaching that's required to prepare students for arguably the hardest AP tests. I only gave him a high easiness rating because he deserves a high rating. Don't take his class if you don't care about the Physics APs; take it if you want to be prepared through rigorous studying and prep.
I am a PhD candidate in Chemical Physics at UMN (top 25 in country) and I owe it all to him. He made no breaks required that we think at a high level and understand, rather than just regurgitating. I have a career and future because of him.
Mr. Murphy was very passionate about his class and he tried to help everyone understand the material. One of the best teachers I have ever had!
Dude has anger problems and should not be teaching in a high school.
Murphy is the best teacher. He knows so much about physics, and is really passionate about what he does. He truly is a good teacher
Constantly makes mistakes in his lectures. However he prepares you well for the AP exam. It was worth the challenge.
so egotistic - he needs to concentrate more on our understanding than on whether we do his work etc etc. its seems he doesnt care much if we fail as long as we dont blame him
Decent teacher, can be pretty mean but slowly evolves into a cool guy by the end of the year... he can stand on his head! (hes a certified yoga instructor)
He's a great teacher and a nice guy, I just wish for AP he'd not waste so much time on HW and also not get so angry when people find his mistakes (all teachers make them :))
all i have to say is k, k. sit far away so you dont hear it, k?
Murphy doesnt know how to teach physics and makes too many mistakes. there are units he disregards entirely. not nearly as good an option for ap as spira
Murphy has a good sense of humor. I convinced a friend to dump a bucket of sand on his head, and we got away with minimal trouble.
try and count how many times he says "kay," it's not easy and once you start you won't be able to stop noticing it. great guy though, a little dull sometimes.
"Now say you see a cat....ok, now you see adog and slam on the breaks, how long will it take you to stop if you were going 40 KPH?" - Physics class.
I've learned alot from him throughout my time at Ward Melville. Thanks Mr. Murphy.
clarity?? haha he shouldn't even get 1 pt for that lol
