Great teacher. However, he is extremely strict with certain things. He'll teach you skills necessary for college, you just need to learn how to appreciate the rigorous academic setting.
I got a 2400 on the SAT and a 36 on the ACT, so this class was a breeze.
He had an immense knowledge on history and passion as you could tell. He did push us to study as much as possible but many times he came off as supercilious and the classroom environment was awkward & quiet because of this. He was alright overall, but I've definitely had better experiences with other history teachers
I had him for summer school World History freshman year. He kinda pushed me a lot, but I did get a 96% in his class. His tests are somewhat difficult so be prepared. And self-study at home sometimes, cuz he sometimes adds in extra information five minutes before the test and then shoves the test in your face.
Great teacher. Although it gets very quiet in his class he still likes to joke around and make the class laugh. He explains everything thoroughly and if you listen you'll definitely be ready for the test!
Collins is a hard working and strict teacher that probably has one of the best intentions for his students. However, the atmosphere that he places within his class is very depressing and gets in the way of better learning. I have the largest respect for what Mr Collins does but I just dont like being in his class.
He's overall a very good teacher, and does know his stuff. His homework is not too incredibly hard, and he is a very reasonable teacher. However, his essay and multiple choice tests are very hard, and his grading is no piece of cake either. Overall he does not like dissent in his class, and will be very very strict on listening in class, so DO NOT SLEEP IN HIS CLASS.
Mr. Collins is THE BEST social studies teacher. He is strict but because of that, you learn a lot in his class. He is very good at explaining things; If you don't get somethings, don't be afraid to ask. His class was pretty challenging to others, but to me it was okay. His tests are quite hard but you get used to them after the first few. PAY ATTENTION TO DETAILSSS!!!! he asks a lot of questions on statistics. HE LOVES M&Ms;.
He's tough to his freshman and the beginning of freshman year with him was a classroom dictatorship with Collin's at the top. The difficulty of the tests are hard at first but easier when you adjust to them. His class actually isn't that hard though, as long as you're paying attention when he reviews the notes. Usually, he'll quiz the class on most of the stuff that will be on the test. His lessons are remembered. By the end of the school year, it he somehow brainwashed us into loving him.
I had him for world history as a freshman and his class was hard. Very few people in my class got an A and most of the people were complaining about how hard he is. Detailed notes are necessary to succeed in his class and he often gives surprising questions on his tests.
I have him for History HL IB... (idk which one HL or SL, its the two year one) and hes kinda strict and scary, and he makes us take notes every day during the whole class period. PAY ATTENTION IN THE NOTES! and we have weekly quizes, (2 times per week) and we have to do a study guide for each, during the CH Tests, he will make us write an Essay and a take the CH test... its quite hard to get used to, but once u do get used to it, i'll be good.. pay attention in class and dont get on his bad side
Had him for World History Honors. He was intimidating at first, and to be honest, I'm still intimidated of him.... However, he is a knowledgeable and you will definitely learn. The class isn't difficult as long as you take detailed notes and study.
had him as a freshman for summer. good with explaining, makes you take own notes out of the book; hated him cuz his tests ask you for exact #of deaths, birthdays etc. memorize entire book for an A.
very tough, lots of studying. he makes you study for names, countries, dates, and quantities (# of deaths/casualties).
INCREDIBLE. AMAZING. but he'll make you work a lot. Great sense of humor
He's so great the U.S.Congress should honor him or something.
If you're a freshman you're going to be overwhelmed by the amount of notes you have to take everyday. Lectures are boring but if you pay attention you'll remember what he said. AP/IB is the best time to take him since he's rarely had anyone not pass. By junior year, he's your favorite teacher and by senior you're making plans to visit him after you've gone off to college.
Had Collins for AP/IB. Best teacher EVER. Work hard, and if you do slack off, be into soccer. Then he will like you. :)
APUSH Test was the easiest one I took because of Collins
Best teacher on campus (if you're not a freshman). Do the work and study hard and it's a great class. If you slack off he'll notice. He's really funny sometimes and is awesome for AP/IB.
He sucks!!!!!! Never get him during summer school or high school. He makes you take 5-9 pages of notes everyday and he gives a lot of homework and has hard tests. Never take him ever ever ever ever. Even though he is really really really smart and if you want to learn alot about modern world history you should take him. But if you dont like taking notes, have a lot of homework, and has hard tests.
really funny if you know him. His test maybe hard but its only because you cant take the textbook home. Yups there is 2 different types of textbooks for juniors and freshmans!
if you are a freshman then you will suffer otherwise he is great!
I love Mr. Collins- I had him for both IB and AP and he was an amazing teacher. Do your work and suffer through it and in the end it will pay off. He's AMAZING. I've never had a better teacher, even in college. He cares for all his students, but you have to put the effort. Work hard, and it pays off. Trust me.
he IS hard but he is also the best history teacher I ever had!!!!!!!!
He's scary in the beginning.. but as the year progresses he becomes nicer. He's pretty funny too. Good teacher, enough said! :)
study hard for his tests. esp. the two chapter combined tests. and prepare for ALOT of note-taking. but he prepares you well. also, his jokes about bush is funny.
Really great teacher. Although he is mean and will pick on you if you fall asleep or forget your book, he teaches extremely well and it's hard to forget what he teaches.
WOOOOOT COLLINS 8D! Great teacher, awesome projects, and although a pretty hard test- his got to be the best world history teacher out there.
Collins is basically pretty easy since he teaches right off the book. He's more strict on his freshman classes. Remember to study hard for the tests. Also don't forget to bring your bok everyday.
probably best world history teacher. enriches learning with outside sources (movies). interesting projects, light homework load. tests are easy if u study. u need to work hard for an A though.
insanely hard teacher! extremely hard tests! just dont do anything silly in his class or fool around or you will get picked on the whole year... cant ever fall asleep in class... always be alert
I slept in class so got yelled at a few times. Don't sleep! He puts a lot of effort into the class and expects u to do the same, he gets frustrated otherwise. Great teacher Makes u kno ur stuff.
Great Teacher. He knows how to teach very well. He is very strict, but the way he prepares you for what comes ahead is well done. He has a good sense of humor sometimes.
You learn alot and he's very devoted to his students.
Great teacher. Even though i got yelled at a couple of times... His class can be enjoyable (like the presentation and movies)
Mr Collins is very strict about talking, and is picky about details, but he's an excellent teacher: not too much HW, and he doesn't lecture that much & if you wanna do good, then take notes! overheads
he's hard in world history cuz he teaches AP students rigorously. this guy guarantees u a 5 on da AP.
Mr. Collins made my daughter stand outside in the cold (rainy day) and she has asthma ... just because she did not have her textbook - hands were full carrying a large project for another class.
A GREAT teacher :) not a lot of hw... just need to study and don't talk u'll do fine! he is willing to help out at anytime! A really NICE and HELPFUL teacher!
A really nice teacher, a bit intimidating, but over-all rather likeable & cracks funny jokes. His class isn't as bad as people say - just work & don't talk too much. He's the best.
Very very good class! Not too much homework and has good notes. Can't wait to be in his class in the junior year!
there is a reason why everyone seems to love mr.collins so much, he's the best teacher at walnut!
Mr. Collins is the only reason I studied history in high school. and still love it in college! =)
Awesome teacher...just be prepared for long lectures, hard quizzes, and lots of work...but he's always willing to help (only after class)
kinda intimidating, tho
You just gotta study all the details..including the cliff notes on the side of the book. not hard at all!
There's a reason why he's called the hardest, strictest teacher in the Walnut business; makes you learn. Tips: Study, don't talk, be nice, and be/act SMART!
Man, Collins can give a LOT of homework, but I would recommend him any day of the week... Just be prepared for immense ammounts of homework
Excellent teacher. Teaches more than needed.. that is, he lectures 9 min into the passing per. Prepares you alot. Hard class though.
He is the best history teacher I have ever had and he is really helpful and really teaches well=) He is hard, but man he is one good teacher=)
