He's really nice, but I always had a hard time trying to understand what he was teaching. I feel like he could be good teacher, but that for some reason, he teaches like we already know the material and that he's only helping us to review. As a result, I know that a lot of people go to afterschools to learn chemistry H before taking his class or tutors so that they don't get confused. The good thing is that he offers a lot of extra credit to raise up our grade.
Expects a lot of his students. His class is basically a self-study class in which you must attend his class everyday and listen to confusing things and come home to spend hours to study it all over again because you didn't understand a single thing in class. He grades fairly and gives a lot of extra credit for reports--which are also quite a lot of work, piled with studying for his weekly (or so) quizzes and doing his homework which he doesn't have a due-date for, but you still have to do it.
Expect to pull multiple all-nighters every week. Ez A's are nonexistent. While Bender Boiz do exist, he grades everyone equally, and will fail you if you deserve it. Study like HELL everyday and you will find that AP Chem is actually doable. People hate him b/c they say he can't teach. Learn to stop complaining and deal with it. Self-study; professors will be much worse. Mr. Bender prepares you for the college life, and while not the best "teacher" I've ever had, I definitely recommend AP Chem.
Mr. Bender is a hilarious person as he is always incorporating puns into all of our worksheets and lessons. However, he has the mentality of a child and cannot explain himself properly. He pauses while he speaks so we can "fill in the blank" but gets so frustrated since we can never figure out what he's talking about. His lectures are boring and his class is the only class where I constantly look at the clock. Unless you are great at Chem and self-studying, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! Tests = Hard
Very knowledgeable but a poor teacher, and assumes too much of his students. Questionable (and slightly odd) but unique class structure. Nice and genuine teacher.
Worst teacher I ever had. I tried my best to follow the class activities- but I simply couldn't comprehend his idiosyncratic style of teaching. I tried referring to the textbook (and did learn quite a bit of chemistry that way ) but that didn't help me in his class, since his tests were purely based on in-class activities. I ended up failing chemistry, the only class I failed at Whitney. As a person, I didn't think he was very nice, and was quite insensitive to my academic needs.
I learned more about chemistry in one quarter of chemistry of living systems than I did for the full year I had with him in chemistry. If you have the option, please do not have him as a teacher.
Useless projects and unintelligible teaching
Mr. Bender has a mind of of a teenage boy and Bender Boys do exist. He has a unique teaching style of using weird quirks and names so i recommend memorizing them. He's a decent teacher; it's just that if you don't get his style you'll do horribly.
Mr. Bender is honestly SUCH a great teacher if you do all that he assigns to you. Despite the rigor of the class itself, i learned to love chemistry and have decided to pursue it in college. He definitely knows what he's doing - props to him.
Mr. Bender is actually my favorite teacher... Chemistry is awesome! He's pretty hard to understand if you're not used to his methods of teaching, but in the end, the seemingly weird things he says helps you remember all the complicated chem stuff you'll have to learn.
Mr. Bender's methods of teaching are...different. Throughout his course, there will be a bit of bender culture, stuff not in the book. For example, most of his labs are based around Harry Potter themes. On a test, he'll ask for an equation of "The Chamber of Secrets Salts" lab when he wants a acid-base neutralization equation.
Pros: - Very nice guy - Helpful most of the time - HW is optional - Teaches everything on the CST - Big exams (Tests) are hard but fair - Doesn't hold grudges Cons - His projects are a huge waste of time (even though I got an A on it though) - Mini-exams (Quizzes) are crazy difficult at best - Some concepts are poorly explained. Overall, pretty boss teacher in general and in comparison to the new crappy employees we recently got. And no, I'm not a BenderBoy and Chem is my worst grade right now.
Well, Mr bender seems like a pretty ok guy, and he knows his stuff in science, and im okay with my grade, but i just dont like his class that much because i just cant concentrate for some reason. I mean, hes not a bad teacher, but he does have a kinda dull voice
Very good chemistry teacher. May not explain it well sometimes, but you can go to him for help after school and is open.
One of my teachers this year. Not very helpful, not clear. Expects us to KNOW everything although most of us are confused about what he's talking about most of the time. Not a good experiance.
Good Teacher because I'm a Bender Boy. He always gives me extra points on my quizzes and tests even though I didn't get any. That's only reason I have an A in the class!!!! =] =] =]
Even though I got an A in his class, I can tell you he is the first teacher I have EVER hated... yes I am a guy and I saw firsthand his "Bender Boys" waltzing around the classroom acting as if they kn
Totally not worthy of Whitney standards. An example: Very easily, Bender boys can stroll into his class and use his comp without him knowing. And he has the gradebook open for editing.
Mr. Bender's class was the most unclear class I ever took in high school. I didn't understand half the words that came out of his mouth and his jokes on the CHIPS didn't help much either.talkstoofast
kinda too fast teaching and tries to be fair to all students if u talk to him, he might give u an A even if u got a B
Very interesting jokes on his CHIPS, but simply make sure you understand them so they can contribute to your learning.
Easily swayed. If you're a Bender Boy, a good grade is guaranteed, as he lavishes his attention upon them. If not, you've got to fight to stay.
Mr. Bender is not the best teacher. Sometimes, he is great at teaching one day, but on the next day, he'll explain new concepts too fast for kids except for his favorites. His favoritism is also almos
overall fair and kind teacher, but doesn't teach well.
Regardless of what many of you think, he doesn't show bias when grading or handing out tests/quizzes. His methods are a bit insane, but they're all for the purpose of teaching you.
Bender is the best teacher ever no joke. Stays after school to help too.
He was one of the worst teachers I've had at WHS. HE ONLY LIKES BOYS. HATES TO ANSWER QUESTIONS.
mr. bender needs to stop playing favorites and have more patience when it comes to teaching.
get on his good side, and you pretty much have a guranteed a for the year... -_-
Sometimes hard to understand, a hard grading system, plays favorites. Will ignore some people completely. But if he's in a good mood, a pretty good guy.
the 2007 ppl dont know what they are doing they are naturally worse than the ppl that took chem in 2006 (which was the class of 2008). 2009 doesnt like him but most of 08 did hmmmm what would you think of that?
He shouldn't be a teacher. Unfair and shows too much favoritism.
freaken doesnt know how to teach at all. when he writes something out and its wrong, he just says watever. wat kind of teacher does that.
He's a really nice guy, but he's a horrible teacher. He would literally walk out of class sometimes and refuse to teach. WHO DOES THAT?! All he had to do was tell us to be quiet. He shows a lot of favoritism and he makes you feel stupid for asking questions. Sometimes, he won't even answer your question! He'll just tell you that you're supposed to know by now and that he's not going to waste class time answering your question. The only reason I got by in the class is because i asked my friends for help.
I disagree with all of you guys. Mr Bender is a cool person so stop hating B####es
i dont like mr bender. he was weird and moody. he also favored students so he lionized them and made us feel like peasants. :(
Very easy system, helpful, but unclear. His class is far too easy, his tests are extraordinarily easy beyond imagination. One does not have to study and can still get 100s. Teaching methods are obscure, and unorthodox, but helpful nonetheless.
he has jokes no one understands.. but thats ok he still is a good teacher nonetheless
Bender is really prepared..sometimes a little too prepared..he's got a lesson plan thats probably like..three million years old..he has a weird grading system and shows favoritism among his students...if he got rid of these flaws, he'd be a better teacher. for now he's just on the borderline of okay and bad.
Gets unreasonable at times and plays favorites a bit. Hard to understand but projects are weighted so much that it doesn't matter.
Although Bender gives extrememly difficult tests and quizzes, i still think he was a good teacher because he really taught me a lot of stuff and gave me an A+=)
Bender gave my my first B in hs, but stands out as a teacher who cared and sought to teach rather than give grades... now as a hs teacher, i appreciate him more
He teaches quite well, but he does have a major fault. STOP RUNNING OUT OF THE CLASSROOM IN THE MIDDLE OF DISCUSSIONS JUST BECAUSE OF A FEW TALKERS. KICK THEM
i didnt learn anything in this class and his grading rubric was wierd
Mr. Bender takes time to help his students out OUTSIDE of school hours. He encourages students to be efficient and work hard.
mr benda z a coolio...he spendz lotsa time doing and planning cool stuff 4 us
its matt from the 8th grade. i think that bender is the coolest teacher in the school. he really listens 2 students. i know becuz i told him 2 shave and he did.
mr. bender is kool! he has great labs which is very kool!
his heart is in the right place. he's a little off edge though and sometimes that makes him confusing
classes are hard, but he's a studious teacher. devotes time to students. personality could use work.
Hey - I graduated and am at Stanford, but he stands out in my mind as an excellent teacher who always went above and beyond the call of duty.
