A great guy. As another review said, the jokes are always there, but subtle. He is very quite, especially compared to the other teachers in the Russian and German departments, so if you don't already find the class enthralling, he wont push it there. If you do, on the other hand, few people could make it more enjoyable. I learned a lot from him, but also somehow felt like I wasn't under much pressure to do so, which made it all come more naturally. Was kommt, geh?
Nice guy, but not the best teacher. Languages head, so his priority is not class. After a test in the first week of the term, and by term's end, only half-done grading. Only 4 kids in class! But easy!
the jokes are there. you just have to look for them.
Dr. Merrill is somewhat dull after a year (or 3) with Svec-the-madman, but he knows his Russian and wants you to know it, too. Gentle, calm, and very caring.
great russian teacher; funny & helpful; also understanding
Merrill is the man. He is so funny and really makes German come alive (although he isn't completely fluent) He is very nice and always willing to help. And his pizza and movie parties rock too.
Nice person, but he majored in Slavic languages so his German's a bit iffy. (As a Russian teacher I'm sure he's wonderful.) Everyone I know describes him as a really nice guy.
Well, he doesn't speak German very well and he doesn't have a contemporary vocabulary, but that is irrelevant in the first year class anyway, as he is great with grammer (which is more important initially).
Dr. Merrill is a hard teacher, but he always is there to help.
IS generally a good teacher. May sometimes be just a bit dull. But otherwise, knows what he's talking about.
