She is a very knowledgeable teacher and you will learn a lot but if you get her your grad3 will suffer.
I learned a lot from her and still use her tips. She's an excellent teacher, but your grade will suffer more than Oedipus and Ethan Frome combined. Also, Cheney's kids live.
Ms. Cheney is, by far, the most intimidating teacher I have ever experienced. However, I will also admit that she is a competent teacher. She knows what she's talking about, she's read everything she's teaching a million times over, and once you're on her good side, you're set for the year. I will warn you though, whatever tips she gives you for essays, apply them. She notices that stuff (and will grade nicer if she sees that you take constructive criticism).
Yo I'd say if you get this class, you'll have constant anxiety, not knowing when the next pop quiz is or whatnot. This is one of the first class that actually stressed my out from studying too much.
She's an okay teacher...I'll see what I think of her at the end of the year
Never saw so many exclamation and question marks in a row in my life until I got an essay back from her, lol...
She will drive fear into the core of your existence. Don't say "based off of" in her class, it's "based on". Also Meursault does not die at the end of the stranger. Also Oedipus doesn't have a demise. She will chew your face off if you make a mistake during a presentation. Sometimes she shows cool movies. She is so biased, you will not get an A in her class I don't care how good you think you are at writing. This class will give you anxiety every time you walk in. Good luck to you.
I did not enjoy Cheney at all. She is very inconsiderate towards students and does not realize that she is literally killing people's self esteem. She is biased, rude, and only favors preferably white students. Administration repeatedly warns her, yet she fails to abide by the rules. Although she can teach material, her personality is incompatible for the school environment. I feel anxious each time I enter her classroom and sometimes I regret trying to pursue a better education because of her.
She's terrifying and scary but she knows her stuff and by the end of the year, you will too. Whether you want to or not.
She inspires into students a fearful awe of her- fear because of her personality/temper and the way she can tear down an essay, awe because of the way she can help you get a 5 on the AP test and her vast knowledge on writing.
Ms. Cheney was tough but overall taught so much better than all the other English teachers I have had at Troy. Her methods will greatly benefit you on standardized tests and boost your writing skills immensely. She also is very critical of public speaking.
Bestest. EASY A. NO WORK all FUN! Watch MOVIES! EVERYDAY!
I did not have Mrs. Cheney for classes at Troy yet (idk if ill have her for AP Lang yet-hope i do). I have her for SAT summer classes at CSUF. She's really tough. We have to memorize like 90 words a night including etymology. Oh danngg.. Well anyway, she's really helpful! She REALLY knows her stuff and she's really helpful. She makes sure that everyone participates and gets the write answer. She is super helpful with grammar. Tbh, I am really good at grammar, but she taught me so much more!
She's a tough teacher & gets a lot of flack for being "strict" or "moody". To be honest, doesn't everyone have bad days? But she knows how to teach writing, knows how to analyze every piece of literature, and knows her material. Some teachers just can't teach, but Ms. Cheney can. She really deserves a lot more credit for her teaching than what most give her.
She is a GREAT teacher. She actually made me a better student and writer. Even though her grading may be harsh, she at least knows the subject she is teaching unlike some teachers at Troy. Her class is reasonably hard, but as long as you try and do the work, you will be fine.
Very great teacher. Motivational and kind.
Best teacher ever. If she's harsh sometimes, it's because she wants you to learn. I prefer that to being coddled by an incompetent teacher.
She sometime plays favorites, but she knows so much about essays. All the reviews before me...are you all freshmen? She may give bad grades on essays, but you deserve them if your writing is terrible. All the overall grades she gives end up being A's or B's. She gives help when you come for it. You have to want it. If you go through her class without trying, don't expect to get a high grade and stop criticizing her for your mistakes.
i reallly dont like that woman. she's mean. she doesnt say nice things she expects you to be super smart, and like an AMAZING writer when we're not. i dont like the way she teaches.she expects too much from us liddo freshman
I am very intimidated by her. When someone asks a question, she will just say "What?!" Also, she always picks up or text on her phone when ever it rings during LECTURES!
Great teacher. Most misunderstandings are incidental. She'll explain if you need help. She's funny and considerate too. Her style is structured- it's a good idea to follow it. The main problem is that most people think they c
Very insensitive to others. Did not seem to care about her class and answers her phone in the middle of it. Or txts back when she gets a txt during. a lecture
As an IB Coordinator, she was pretty cool. But as an english teacher, not so much. She has all these rules that don't make sense and she doesn't explain things carefully.
She doesnt really care about her students but she has favorites. If you try to ask a question she'll yell out "What!"
That said, I don't like the Troy IB program. IB curricula and projects are barely covered in AP/IB math and AP/IB physics. If you want to learn from IB and score high, you have to do it on your own.
Get to know her well: she cares about her students and has a big heart. She's really loyal and will stick up for you when you most need it.
I actually liked her a lot! Don't get on her bad side, but if you're a good student and work hard, she's very understanding and helpful.
I love Mrs. Rich! She so much more than a teacher. She's like a surrogate mother to all of her students.
She only cares about the IDEAL potential full IB students. As for the rest of you... no you will not meet with her and will not even have a chance to speak to her on how you can even try participating.
She really tries to teach her students, not just tell. Really nice, too. ;D
She may seem nice when you enter as a freshmen, but by the time you're a senior, you will have realized that this woman has no heart, no sympathy, NO SOUL. The sad thing is, this isn't that much of an exaggeration.
she has so much more planned for us every day than just an english lesson. she wants us to leave 9th grade a stronger person, a smarter person, and a better person.
nicest teacher...really cares about students. Tries to incorporate life lessons as well as English, makes her really cool
she REALLY cares about the students, and doesnt only teach english..she taught students to be better ppl.. very understanding and fair. loved the stories she read from chicken soup
SHES SO AWESOME!!i loved her class and i wish i were in it 2nd semester!
I wish I would have never left her class! Your the best Ms. Rich! Thanks for everything!
too many esssays. its a small price to pay for a good teacher
Personally,I think she's one of my favorite teachers at Troy. I've learned so much from her, both in her English Class and from the advice she's given as the IB director.i<3cheney
Awesome teacher. Loved her for Future Teachers. Too bad it went by too quickly
Typically IB program teacher at Troy. She does not teach on a foundation based on objective truth and she only presents the material (badly)
If I could give I would give her zeros on being helpful. She has an awful attitude
omg such an awesome teacher :]. I'll miss you Mrs. Rich. So helpful and kind! (Although she does say phenomenal a little too much)
She's too rigid and critical, plays favorites too often and is not really all that bright. I feel sorry for the IB kids that have to deal with her now.
Helpful on grading papers, true. Lectures often degrade into circular arguments. Teaches her opinion as the only possible explanation.
She's the type of teacher that has a genuine interest in you if you got the need to succeed. She's a good teacher to consider for writing a letter of recom.
o my gosh mrs rich is the best english teacher EVER!this is my favorite class and i cry cuz ill never have her again.i hope she reads all the coo stuf about her
she's not not cool... and she can be funny, but she overuses words and she doesnt focus on the topic at hand. her class has a homey feeling tho, and we do learn life lessons, very non-conformative english teacher.
I would never have graduated high school, thank you Mrs Rich!
Life lessons are the best, but the English is still good.
your the best! i learn alot and not just about english!
English I - HAAAA! Just wait til junior year! You'll wish you hd her
i think she learned how to use sarcasm in our class =)
sat with me for almost an hour to work through a paper today! Wow!
class of '99 alumni... Ms. Cheney, you instilled within me a LOVE for literature
"a thing is defined by what is not it"...like whoa...got me thinking
really hard in writing, but my writing is so improved......
The New IB Coordinator from Fall 2002!! Good luck to Class of 2003 and beyond!
if you're not in troy tech...you're not worth her time.
THE HARDEST AND BESTEST TEACHER IN DA WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One of the greatest mentors in English a student can have.
existentialism . . . ARRRGG!!! but wowowwoowow!!!great stuff! fun class!
not helpful, doesnt listen, stubborn, plays favorites, IB cord ha!!! it'll bebad
Shes great if shes having a good day and you're on her good side- luckily I was.
She's an awesome teacher but NEVER EVER EVER EVER ask a question!!!!
dude, shes a GREAT teacher & those who sed she hates u shes not proly not alone
Cool personality.....Hardest Freshman class.....Still, I got an A twice
She's really mean, hard, and criticizes a lot and about everything
Finally, an english teacher that knows what she's talking about.
she should really know how to teach and not criticize
