He is one of the smartest men I have ever met in my entire life. So kind and easy to learn from. Very smart in many different areas. I would have him again. Anyone who says "Switch Out" clearly isn't open to multiple learning environments.
I am a debater, and a longtime fan of Mr. Smith. He's an excellent teacher, and he really believes in the value of what he is doing. Even if you struggle at first to get use to his style and his assignment load (trust me it's a lot) the payoff is worth it. You learn a lot. But do listen. Sometimes hard to understand (😃) he speaks very fast, he's way too smart for you, just know that.
I just started browsing this website out of boredom, while also feeling nastagic because I am coming up on my ten year reunion from Barlow (time flies.. unbelievable.. you all wait, it'll be here before you know it). Anyways, Randy Smith is the man. I deserved an F in his class but he gave me a C- because I made a last minute effort. Also, you should see him play the bass.. pretty good at it. Just make sure that if you borrow a book, you return it. He will call you at home.
He is smart, but he will be better for debate, not for west civ. The grading is weird, and we debate too much for it not to be a debate class. We never have testes or quizzes. He grades you on his notes. Doesn't clarify the assignments. I was very confused. He is a good person, but not my kind of teacher
Mr. Smith has been my favorite teacher at Barlow so far. Like others have mentioned, he is extremely smart (a Yale grad) and he can teach you a lot. I took debate with him this year and it was a pleasure to be in the class. I
The brightest individual at Barlow. If you simply put the work in, he will respect you. He is humorous, knowledgable, and passionate about everything he does. His class is not easy, but it requires one to push themselves. It's the best kind of challenge. However, you can do well by working with him and asking him questions. It is an honor to have been in his classes.
By far the most interesting classes and teaching style. He is challenging, and all tests are essay based. He knows everything, the brightest person I have ever met. Just put the effort in.
GREAT GUY AND GREAT TEACHER. He always found time to meet with me or to help clarify something in class he also really makes you think
mr smith may not be easy, but he shouldn't be, he challenges his students to think about what hes teaching rather then mindlessly memorize facts. his is the only class i acctually learned anything in
One of the best teachers I've had. Work is hard, but we're treated as adults, which is a plus. Not only that, the classes are interesting and you learn something!
SWITCH OUT NOW!!! save yourself - west civ with him is a nightmare! gives annyoying homeowrk, TONS of essays, and long boring lectures. hard to follow, and im a good student. grading system is wierd.
best teacher ive had. his tests are different than most teachers, but as long as you support what you say, youll get an A. great teacher, great guy
Most all around intelligent teacher at Barlow, also connects well with the students. Classes are tough but fullfilling
Most engaging teacher at Barlow. Kids hang out in his classroom before school and during break. Incredibly smart and helpful. Lots work, but you'll learn. Do debate with him!
greatest evr. u guys who rated him down r all on pot or r really dumb... its not that hard to pass his class...
he's a really smart person, so he expects a lot out of everyone. If u participate, learn the "10 keys"!!!, and are creative with essays, you'll be fine.
Some people don't like him and think that he is hard but he is easy. Pay attention and state your opinion, you'll be fine.
very tough teacher, nice, not understanding at times, cool class, very intellegent
Engaging, understandable, interesting, and keeps your attention. Not a 'conventional' teaching style, but thats a good thing. Get him for World Geo!
