Mr Karon is a talented musician who I would say also knows how to live not completely stressed out. He definitely picks favorites, but that's often for a reason (e.g. ILMEA kids, jazz kids, kids who generally try harder with music). If you can show that you have a passion for music he will definitely do what he can to encourage your passion for music often in indirect ways such as giving you solos, putting up posters about summer programs related to your instrument, etc.
Mr Karon is very knowledgeable for the most part. He has incredibly high expectations from the trumpet section and he WILL yell at you if you make the slightest mistake. He definitely chooses favorites but his class is usually fun.
Over demanding, his class over everything else, other school classes, sports and activities. Rather than nurturing and encouraging students so they have a life long love of music and playing Mr. Karon yells and belittles making band a MISERABLE experience for many students at Barrington High School, so much so many drop the class and stop playing entirely. That is NOT A GOOD TEACHER by any definition. Mr. Karon needs to be let go!
Randy is my favorite teacher. Yeah he favors the kids in jazz but the audition process for chairs is extremely fair per section, and so is the challenging process. I believe that he is one of the fairest people with the whole process and yeah he's a perfectionist and doesn't like it when other people talk but those people are being disrespectful in his class and he has a right to get mad. Overall, great teacher, highly recommend him for any class.
He knows what he's doing, but he wants perfection- don't talk, don't screw up, don't stick out then he wont yell at you. He has a pretty short temper and he favors the Jazz people and has high expectations for most people (trumpets particularly) overall he's pretty though, but good at what he does
He is a good band director. Doesn't show much emotion though. He is hard on people sometimes, but he's a good band director and teacher.
He was a great teacher. Yeah, he would get annoyed easily if you were talking but it's understandable because it was still his classroom and people would be disrespectful. I'll dearly miss him and pit
K. Dawg is pretty awesome. People just mistake him for being angry sometimes because he always has a blank stare on his face. He makes music so fun, and makes band a fun and easy class! Overall great!
Mr Karon makes music fun and music makes life fun. Those who complain aren't committed to music so who cares about their opinion.
Awesome Teacher!! Knows his stuff! Fun class and great groups!
If you are good and follow the rules, he will be nice to you... hopefully.
hes freakin great at trumpet. has already tought me some things about style. NO PATIENCE. not very good with critisizm. im not looking foward to next year marching.. good music choices..
He's misunderstood. He's not mean, he just doesn't have patience for those who aren't willing to work hard enough to get good. Yet, if you put in the effort it will be worth it.
Does not believe in constructive critiscm is unable to take the extra step otherwise a fairly average teacher
an angry little man who doesn't understand if you have other conflicts or priorites...thinks he is the most important and everyone loves band; doesn't help teach much, though. grr!
has no emotion whatsoever and hardly ever is in a good mood or smiles. understands music very well, and picks good songs for us to play, tho
not so funny. understands all aspects of music. intimidating
karon is terrible. He dosent seem to know how to talk....only yell.....and good luck asking a question you will get no where
He just a MEAN TEACHER! Good luck getting ?'s answered, even so he is so unrealistic is awful! Drop Band before you are miserable!
Once you get him out of school he is so much fun. It's all the immature freshman that make him so angry. You just need to get on his good side. He's funny then.
Mr. Karon is the worst band directer ever. It's like he's from a different planet. You try to ask him a question, and he just walks away from you.
he said i sounded really bad once although i had just started playing a new instrument
