Mr. Geller taught me algebra at JHS 143 in 1976. I now have a BS in Finance and an MBA. Both my children have Master's. The discipline I have and that I've instilled on my children have roots in Mr. Geller.
Great man. Great math teacher. Mr. Geller was the first teacher that made me study and learn my stuff before every test. He taught be how to be discipline.
MATH IS NUMBER 1! <3 Mr. Geller taught me some of the most interesting mathematical strategies in math team.
Really caring. When he saw me struggling on a topic in class, he offered to stay afterschool to help me.
His enthusiasm was contagious, his resilience was admirable. Mr. Geller made sure that his students understood the material. Hearing about his recent passing brought on a mix of emotions. He was truly
He encouraged me to try harder after I failed my first math test. I applied that to life. RIP Mr. Geller
I was deeply saddened to hear of Mr. Geller's passing. He was absolutely my favorite teacher of all time. I had Richard Geller as a teacher at Stuyvesant in the old building for two full years... Four
Richard Geller is always number one. Thank you for caring so much about students, even til the end. R.I.P.
This man was the best math teacher I have ever had. He really really cares about his students. He really cared, and his passion just motivated you. Rest in peace, Mr. Geller, you will not be forgotten
R.I.P Mr. Geller. He was truly a great man, a great teacher, and someone who was just so passionate. I have never personally had him as a teacher, but anyone who has had him has told me so much, that
Great teacher for math team. Very good at teaching and passionate about math. Good at his job. RIP Mr. Geller.
Rarely have I seen my son cry...but he welled up as he told me of Geller's passing. This man was a devoted teacher who made an effort to correctly pronounce the unusual names of all his students. Tho
Mr. Geller, I will never forget you and your passion for math. Rest in peace; your legacy will live on.
I will never forget his after school tutoring sessions, he would patiently go over every possible detail, making sure that I wasn't just going through the motions but actually understood the material.
Mr. Geller was an amazing teacher and an inspiration to all his students. All of Stuyvesant will miss him. R.I.P.
Mr. Geller is probably one of the most dedicated teachers in all of stuyvesant. He is willing to risk his own health in order to make sure you understand the material. He was doing the very thing he l
Mr. Geller -- you are in heaven tonight, crying, because you never wanted to stop teaching the subject you love so much. We are all crying with you. You have taken a little of Stuyvesant with you.
Mr. Gellar was one of the few math teachers that ever explained or made sense of math to me. Yeah,, his tests were hard, he gave a ton of homework, but in the end, you left his class as a smarter pers
Mr. Geller was a great teacher, although he was very strict. He was a hard grader and had hard tests. Stuyvesant wont be Stuyvesant without him, he was an amazing man.
Okay, let's be fair to the man. He wouldn't like his class known as an easy one. Still, it wasn't difficult, as long as you did everything required of you. He was an amazing man.
MR. GELLER WAS A GREAT TEACHER. WE ARE GOING TO MISS HIM SO MUCH. WE LOVE YOU MR. GELLER! RIP <3
Mr. Geller was inspiration for us all. May we all be as passionate about something as he was about math and teaching. Math is #1.
Rest in paradise, Mr. Geller. You were such an inspiration to all of us; you will be missed greatly.
He's a really great teacher. He doesn't give partial credit for tests but he explains stuff really well. Vollaro is the hardest one, not him.
you learn to forgive him for the tests because he is just that amazing.
ps. he does know how to smile and crack jokes despite the rumors.
You are guaranteed a high grade because you fear divine retribution for not studying.
hardest math teacher in the school, but good at teaching, stay away from him if you want a high grade
Great teacher. Class is tough. This isn't the kind of class where the people who do their work everyday are guaranteed a 90 , this is the class where the people who are good at math get good grades. T
best math teacher ever. he might be really strict and grades pretty harshly, but he actually cares about his students so much and i have so much respect for him.
Very, very tough. He's a great man, you'll have to really work to get a good grade.
You'll definitely learn, just don't expect an easy grade.
Test grades are 100% of your grade, but he teaches so well it doesn't matter. Just don't get lazy and screw up one test...no test grades are dropped.
Great teacher! If you dont understand something, go to his help class. Before a test on thursday, he offers help on wednsday afterschool. Math is #1 lol and he makes math enjoyable and fun
math is #1 lol; tough grader; and goes through the curriculum fast
he's somewhat terrifying and his tests made me cry. but he offers tutoring if you need it, legitimately cares about his students, and is a lot nicer outside of the classroom.
I love him. His notes are so helpful you actually don't have to teach yourself from the textbook. Downside:he is such a good teacher, when you get a different one you'll start failing, like I am.
Hard test hard grader. MUST ask if u dont understand. Goes through material FAST!
Very strict and scary. His tests can make you cry, especially since there's no partial credit. But he does put in effort to help his students, and he's great at teaching. Still scary, though.
Hard teacher, wish I paid attention in his class lol but AWESOME and one of the teachers who will try very hard to help his students. Unorthodox style, but I wish I appreciated him more.
He is by far one of the best teachers Stuy ever had. He is hard but fair. He will never expect you do something that you cannot do and will help you all the way to get you where you need to be.
not the nicest teacher when it comes to grades but he is amazingly good. You may hate him early but hes totally worth it. Hes really good n genuinly very nice overall best math teacher(pretty amusing
best math teacher ever. he actually helps you learn the material and he gives make up tests. yeah you have to work hard, but do your work and there is no way you can fail.
Great teacher, easily one of the best at Stuy. Unlike most math classes, in his class you actually are taught the material, rather than being expected to look it up in the textbook and teach yourself.
his tests are incredibly easy if you pay attention in class. he doesn't give trick questions or anything. his homework takes forever though.
Best math teacher ever. Really nothing more to say than that. For those who say otherwise, I suggest you grow up. He helps you so much, that you practically have to make an effort to fail.
a great man who noes how to teach. hes a good person wit a great heart who treats each student like his own child. just work hard and study and u will do good. i never learned more math from ne1 else
He's hard, so you'll have to study. But he's fair so there's nothing to complain about. He's strict and a bit scar but you can RLY tell that he's a good person. And he knows math. And he CARES.
explains things really well. also really cares about his students and works hard to make sure you do well. tests are hard and i had to really study but as long as you try you'll do well.
this man made me freaking paranoid because he always called on me randomly. good teacher, but the only "work" i did was go to tutoring the days before the tests. he gave me a 91.
hey, the man can teach, can't he? yeah, i mean he's pretty darn scary, but he's actually one of the teachers in school who can teach and KNOWS what he's doing.
You have to work hard. But I understand math for the first time in my life. He is definitely on the strict side of fair, but he's a fantastic teacher. A little scary at first, but he cares SO much about his students.
Geller. Strict. Okay tests. O.O at homework. Great teacher. You'll learn a lot.
I got him as a teacher this term. Very scared. After reading the previous mixed reviews- don't know what to expect. Missed my chance on transferring out. Always stuck with potentially troublesome math teachers. Why!?!?!?!?!?
A lot of kids don't like Mr. Geller because they said that he is strict, but, to tell the truth, it is beyond great! You will learn so much so do his work and it'll be awesome!
had an 89.7 test average and he rounded down to 88, even though i had all my h.w.'s done. does not follow departmental grading policy, just makes your test average your average. (rounded down.) tests are too long.
I had Mr. Geller in 1974 - 1976, at J.H.S. 143. More than 30 years later, I can tell you he had a great impact in my education and that of my classmates. He is one of the best you'll ever meet. I hope life is good to him.
Mr. Geller may be scary when you just meet him, but truly he is an AMAZING teacher. He is so passionate about math (a little too passionate). He is HARD but EXTREMELY fair. Just work hard and you will be fine!
Mr. Geller is like the Ms. Hall of Math. Eccentric, but passionate. However, Geller conveys his passion by giving his students low marks. He does give make-up and tutoring. Your grade will suffer, but you will learn.
Mr. Geller is a GREAT math teacher. Had pre-cal with him in '02 and his along with Ms. DeBellis' courses were the best ever! Knows his math and he's extremely fair. He loves to teach, just obey the rules and go to class!!!
He's intimidating, he really is. But he teaches really great. xD
Coolest/funniest teacher ever. His tests are the coolest. He's grades are just fine. he actually made math fun for me.
Geller is the man. If you study and pay attention in class he's really not hard at all.
Strict, but not unfair. Appears to have a bad memory (age related perhaps?) since everyone is constantly getting him to correct mistakes he made in their grades.
i loved this guy. its not a class you can slack in, b/c he checks homeworks every day, and he doesn't usually curve, but he taught the material so well. great class!
"CHEATING IS DISPICABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" wats up with this guy?
his grades are harsh, but he's one of the few teachers who genuinely cares about the students.
he's a very scary person and the class is also very boring. don't like him much and he should just retire
Although he is intimidating at first, Geller is an excellent math teather. He is strict, but you really learn the math. His sessions afterschool are very helpfu
Geller is the best math teacher ive ever had. hes way too funny with lil math jokes and ofcourse MATH IS #1. o man i love the man!
very nice most of the time... but watch out for his tests!!
He knows his math, and he loves to teach it too. He gives makeups and tutoring sessions out of his own time. He's also quirky in his unique way.
he's a very good teacher and very dedicated to math...but his tests are too hard
he's the best math teacher at stuy and explains everything. tests are mostly easy since he goes over everything thats gonna be on the test the day before.
If you catch on in the first week, then it's probably a great class. But if you don't, he'll just leave you behind, without an effort to actually help you.
He made me like math again. He stays afterschool to help students prepare for his tests. Gives excellent notes and teaches in a very lucid way. Great teacher.
He cares a lot about his work, cares about his students, and will never ever try to trick you on an exam. If you put in the work, you'll do fine.
Mr. Geller is hard, but also a very good teacher. He stays after school on selected dates to tutor students and he does a good job. Listen to everything he says
Mr. Geller was the man. Sure, his tests are hard, and he shows no mercy grading them, but he cares a lot about his students and is always willing to help.
