Mr. Akeson might seem scary to the BLS student running in the hallway, but he was genuinely one of my favorite teachers at BLS. Super funny, extremely smart. If you do all the homework and study, his class is very manageable and prepares you for the AP exam! The extra credit goes a long way, as well. Definitely worth the work in the class, thought I would hate it on the first day of class but ended up being one of my favorite classes at the end of the year
Okay, Mr. Akeson is an incredibly smart man. It's just His way of teaching is not that clear--this is why you must marry your textbook and sleep with it every night if you want a solid grade. He is funny, but at times can make you fall asleep. He is quite interesting really. I respect him, so should you. Oh yea--NEVER BE LATE TO HIS CLASS, I WAS ALWAYS SCARED OF THIS--MORE THAN HIS EXAMS.
I had the privilege of being in Mr. Akeson's class in 1988-89 and 91-92. I know that makes me sound ancient but I honestly owe a lot of my current success as a physician-scientist to him. You all are tremendously lucky to still have him at BLS. He's a gem!
Awesome, chill guy. Everyone uses APES for study
Very hard and demanding. Too much work. He's a great teacher and prepares you well.
This guy has a lot of knowledge in his head, but he doesn't really use it to teach you. If you plan to have an A+ in his class, you gotta READ. READ. READ. AND DO YOUR HOMEWORK. He will not teach you a lot from the reading, so you have to do it on your own. If you ask him questions, he would most likely answer it..then go off topic.
omg, the amount of work you have to do for his class is insane. in fact, akeson is insane. but he does have a great sense of humor.
APES con Akes. Sometime i wish he was my grandfather. He's tough, but he's awesome. "testing bovine secretions" = his way of taking the class on an ice cream field trip at the end of the year.
Guy really pushes you to learn to work by yourself. Listening in class lets you learn random irrelevent, but intresting facts. you can only learn by reading. Amount of reading is very much impossible.
He just gives too much work that you end up copying from the back just to keep up rather then reading and understanding the material.I used to love biology...but not anymore.
Humorous teacher! Although he probably won't learn your name, he does wants all his students to succeed. Mr. Akeson knows his stuff. His tests are hard, but it prepares you well for AP and college.
mr akeson is a great teacher. He's really hard and goes through material fast, but if you do your work and pay attention you'll do well. Even if I didn't do so well in his class I got a 5 ! :)
He's adorable. I wish he was my grandpa. Also, he's very intelligent, and really knows his stuff.
He knows his stuff but won't go out of his way to teach it to you. Expects you to learn from the book. Outlines ruin his class, my grade, and the subject for me. There goes my interest in bio...
I am currently 4 years removed from Akesons AP sciences classes but he was by far my favorite teacher in high school. He was tough but only because he expected the best from his students.
Oh Akeson, how you make my life complicated with your load of work and tests! ONE DAY, you'll see! I'll get my act right and get a good score!...Yeah, this man knows how to push his students.
Probably the strangest yet best science teacher ever. Horrible Study teacher tho. Makes us do a ton of work, but he's real helpful and funny, and got me a near-perfect SAT II Bio + a 5 on AP Bio.
omg best science teacher i ever had!!! sure i may not have gotten a 4 or a 5 on the test, but he really pushed me in ways no other teacher had done son in science... his class was so much fun
Love this man. He is an awesome teacher and is hilarious. He makes the AP a breeze.
good teacher. strict - he does his job - and he does it well.
I feel like hes a clear teacher. BUT! Be sure youre in school for his tests, cause it will take you forever to have him give you a make up. Hes good, but a pain...
Mr. Akeson is not a good teacher, teachers teach he just pontificates. That's not teaching. I got a 5 on my AP Biology exam because I found someone who could teach to help.
hard teacher, i loved him, he's so funny, and i love his teaching methods.. and i did well in his class =D!!
Mr. Akeson is a good teacher. He teaches well I have to admit but he is also wicked hard!! You absolutely have to study for his tests or else you'll fail. Other wise he's bearable.
BRILLIANT. Makes you work HARD (but it pays off!! I got a 5 on AP exam). He's nice if you're polite and do your work. He also got me an awesome job at Harvard.
Hard, but you learn a lot. He'll make your life living hell, but it's worth it.
too strict, but a good teacher. he is nice if you ask him something politely after class. hes also very funny. i learned a lot from his bio class.
He's one of the most interesting and well-informed teachers i have ever met. He also has a great sense of humor!!
i think he it the smartest person i have ever met. he knows everything. he also tells th best jokes. you have to really work hard...the tests are kinda hard
he is soo horrible...he makes us do too much work and is way to strict, if your one minute late for a test he wont even let you take it, i do not like him at al
Agree about the study teacher part..he's really strict..but as a teacher, he's good.
he's a very teacher and i learn a lot from him, but he's kinda hard. He actually makes me kinda interested in biology.
he's a good teacher, but you have to sorta get used to him after a while... with outlines and everything
hes a hard teacher that will make you work. will learn from him. strict on deadlines, but bends the rules @ the right time. writes great recommendations
O_o the only teacher that can tell a joke, and makes me feel all disgusted in bio class.. :P He knows his stuff, totally
Akeson will make you work, but you might as well get used to him... he's college
