She got fired at December, and our replacement sub became our permanently teacher for the year. Definitely boosted my GPA but didn't learn any english.
She is the teacher who inspired me to go on and become and English teacher myself. She is demanding, tough and unapologetic, but she also clearly cares deeply about her students and their success. She may not be the easiest teacher to get a pass from, but I challenge you not to learn from her.
Ms. Lehrman is by far the roughest teacher I will ever have. I would not want to wake up in the morning because her class was the bane of my existence. But one thing is certain, she knows exactly what she's doing. Her class will feel like too much work and extremely unnecessary at the time, but I can guarantee that even if you fail/borderline fail (unless you were cutting class) you will have learned a lot. Your class was hell for me, but you really are a good teacher Ms. Lehrman.
Very rude to students and faculty. Seeks to humilate some groups. Faculty in other could not stand her. Seems to cause trouble within any school she is in with the administration. Has definit psyc problems. A kid having her in your school.
My experience was unique with Mrs. Lehrman because I did well in her class first semester and got an A in her class. However she always had something negative to say about me, and made me feel uncomfortable every second in her class as she berated us with negativity and disdain. I eventually stopped caring second term. Does she offer help? Yes. Is she a biased woman with psychological issues? You bet. Her grading was not fair in my opinion. Overall, she's intolerable and has no business w/ kids.
Quite possibly the best teacher I ever hated.
She is fierce, but absolutely the best English teacher a high school student could ever hope for.
When I had her, she had already taken anger management class and was already into yoga. She tells GREAT stories and she is very good in what she is doing. She is a bit intimidating, but her class was really fun with all the stories that she told us. Just pay attention and take her class seriously. She doesn't even give too much work and some of the short stories were really good.
Shes passionate, knowledgeable, dedicated, and smart. But she seriously need to cool her jet, like come on, no one is perfect. She rant on for like 10 minutes because some people don't get her directions, which are pretty confusing sometimes. Shes strict, moody, and very very very rude. She got one of the baddest mouth for a teacher. But yea, shes the only English teacher i had in 7 years that actually teaches.
Ms Lehrman has everything you would think makes a great teacher. She is incredibly knowledgeable in literature and composition and is extremely passionate about both. If you stay on her good side she is helpful and can improve your skills more than most. However her personality annuls hers outstanding potential. She is opinionated, rude, and disrespectful to other individuals and groups of people. When I'm around her i consistently become irate or depressed.
She is the most helpful English teacher ever! She is my favorite English during my whole tech career ever! I am grateful to have her as my short stories teacher in my senior year. Being in her class gives me hope in becoming a better writer and reader. She is the most caring teacher ever. However, if you are a lazy person, you will not do well in her class. If you follow her instructions to the word, you would do perfectly fine in her class.
Came out of that class with a headache everyday from her rants. If you are doing poorly, go to tutoring so she can help you improve. Participate in class and she will like you and boost your grade.
She really isn't as bad as some people put her. If you're not lazy and don't skip class a lot, you'll do fine. If you find yourself doing bad in written exams/quizzes, participate A LOT.
I simply cannot describe the way I feel after I leave her class.
Seriously, one of the best English teachers out there. She strongly believes in negative reinforcement. If you say something, make sure you think it out before you say it or she'll say something sarcastic and hurtful. A lot of people in my class have a hard time with that so everyone just stays quiet. It IS possible to do well, but in order to achieve that, you have to be perfect. Don't draw outside the lines but don't leave anything unshaded.
She's one of the few teachers I have respect for in this entire school. She helped me go from a really crappy writer, to a decent writer and hopefully a good writer by the end of the school year. Sure she can be a bit moody at times, but there's a lot more positive aspects to her than negative. Although she won't hold your hand and comfort you when you're down, she's definitely one of the few teachers in this school that WILL actually teach. Be happy that you have her. And to those who complain
Do not miss your oppurtunity with this teacher. She has credentials more than enough to become a professor, and yet she teaches high school. It's her passion for teaching that I believe keeps her where she is most needed. If you are a bad writer, if you take her class seriously, you will become a good writer. If you're a good writer, you will become an excellent writer. Her teaching in close reading is hardly paralleled in college, and her presentations will enhance your speaking skills.
I did well, and I like her: funny, smart, and passionate. However, she has bad days where she lets her emotions get the best of her. She has difficulty seeing things from a student's POV. Sometimes the things she believes are clear or obvious aren't quite so to us. She'll improve your writing, but she'll also take a couple cracks at your self esteem. Has definitely made kids cry in her class (including me). Don't say those who are complaining are slackers, but make the most of her class!!
Listen to her directions and follow them. Be serious about her class, because she will know if you're bsing her. She has absolutely no tolerance for those who don't pay attention. She's an intelligent lady who knows what she's talking about and she will make you a better student, reader, writer, and speaker. She can be a little harsh, but it's because she's straightforward and likes to be clear. No matter what, she always treats you with respect. Tech students need more teachers like her.
i just recently started having her and boy can i say, she is definitely a prejudice teacher. she speaks her mind, but unneccessary comments come out of that dirty mouth. she lacks patience and skills to speak with students. i am the student she dislikes the most in one of her classes. Why? because i asked her where the absent handouts were. she is definitely not reasonable.
Well, there are really just two tenets of doing well: 1. Do you work and take it seriously. 2. Follow directions. She can really make you a much better writer, but you have to put in serious effort. Honestly, Ms. Lehrman can be one of the funniest teachers you'll ever have. Take advantage of that.
She is the best English teacher I ever have. She the only English teacher I like during my 4 years in Tech. The BEST!
I had Ms. Lehrman last year, and it was a very two sided experience. Although I am giving her a bad review, i actually recieved an 85 in her class. Ms. Lehrman teaches very important aspects of writing, she has no business being a teacher. She has no patience for children and will humiliate anyone who answers a question wrong, even if the question is open ended. She then plays the victim and complains about how nobody will participate. She doesn't take critisism and always needs to be right
She's the type of teacher no student wants. It's not that she's a bad teacher, which absolutely she isn't, it's just that you'll have a tough time getting a good grade. The average I got in her class was at least 15 points lower than what I got in any other english class...so you'll be better off in terms of college admissions if you transfer out if you get the chance.
Lehrman is one of the smartest english teachers out there. I had her in my senior year, and I knew she was pretty special. Now in college I can tell you this woman is just amazing. When she says keep her handouts? KEEP HER HANDOUTS. She's one fo the few english teachers out there you could actually learn something from.
Ms. Lehrman is one of the best teachers you will ever have. She is under rated for her amount of dedication and care for her students. She makes herself sound like she's a tough cookie by saying that her job isn't to make you feel better about yourself, but you'll realize that she is a really dedicated teacher. She can be intimidating at times, but her class will be one of the most valuable experiences you'll ever have. Cherish her class because you'll learn to thank her eventually.
hard teacher but worth it wen u take the AP. she plays favorites and its tru if she hates u she;ll hate u for the rest of the yr.
She gives a LOT of work. But she also gives enough time to manage it. The course is hard but it's an AP so what would you expect? Lehrman is a very funny woman, though she can be blunt and sometimes hyper. She is an excellent teacher, just make sure your answer is what she wants or she will shoot it down ;]
It's nice that she speaks her mind out. Once in a while, she's a bit moody, but then which teacher isn't. Is nice to students who show her respect. Makes sure you do your work. A good teacher for a good student.
Great teacher... yes the class is difficult , yes you will hate it while you're there (especially if you're in AP English), but you will learn so much. I had her twice and I must say I am happy that i did...count yourself lucky to be in her class. Because of my AP english class i was able to skip English one in college...can we say YAY!! for less college courses :)
Good teacher but a horrible person. Very very rude. I can't explain enough. Seriously plays favorites. If she hates you, she hates you. I hate going to her class. I hate it hate it hate it.
she's very fair but going to her class always made me nervous because you never know how she might spazz. follow her instructions & do the work & you'll do fine. make sure you're NEVER late.
I look forward to her class. You learn a lot. You have to give it to her she is very hardworking, organized, fair, and dedicated. I liked her. She'll treat you right, if you treat her right.
She is a really great teacher. Hard, but very fair grader.
She's obviously malicious and loves to play favorites. She took off points from me when I did everything correct just to spite me.
i really like her class. i enjoy the lessons and the time just seems to fly.
Had her two years ago.Writing and public speaking improved after I had her.Tech doesn't deserve her.Do some work, keep quiet+wait till college..her class really prepped me...overprepped me, actually...
Here's how it works. You got inton tech. Tech is one of the best and toughest schools. She runs one of the best and toughest classes. Don't like it? Transfer!
Ms. Lehrman really cares about the students and cares about her subject. It's a shame that in a school like Brooklyn Tech that's a problem. So, let me understand this, I had to take a test to get into Tech, I get in because I work hard, and the good teachers are punished and go to the schools that you don't need a test to get into... Did I get that right? Leave Ms. Lehrman alone. Go pick on the teachers that put a check on the top of the page and hand it back to you. Not the teachers that really help.
Ms. Lehrman is the most dedicated teacher at tech. Believe me, she's probably one of the few people in the school that's passionate about teaching English--just teaching in general. In other words, she cares about you. She's the closest you will ever get to experiencing a real education--without the watered down curriculum and intro to ABC's.
Loved this woman. So quirky (in a good way :) ) and elarned so much from her.
I feel really bad for Ms Lehrman sometimes. She really does want to teach but for some reason, she has to go out of her way to be someone that people want her to be. I feel that she is a great teacher, but she needs to understand that we have feelings too. We have our own opinions! Stop critizing us for speaking out in class...we didnt do anything wrong. Just focus on teaching and the rest will take care of themselves. I cannot stand her fake smile.
I LOVE MS LEHRMAN! Just follow the directions and NEVER slack off! Stop harrassing her because she is one of the most intelligent, passionate, helpful, and QUALIFIED teachers you will ever find in your entire life! What the administration is doing to her is WRONG. They're basically driving away teachers who make Tech what it is today. Ms Lehrman will teach you so many different writing techniques and incorporate the most hilarious events from her life that you'll wish the bell would never ring!! -SA
SHE IS SOOO PASSONATE!!! imagine if you're on a sports team. That sport is your life and you want to play in the olympics. What if a few of your teammates doesn't care, is always late to practice, and plays terrible? Wouldn't you get angry? Ms.Lehrman works very hard, and gets angry only if she recieves negative responsess. If you want to learn, she's the teacher to teach you.
She is a good teacher. It is apparent that she is being picked on by the administration. May I make a suggestion? Go after the teachers that don't know their subject and the leave the good ones alone. We have to take a test to get into tech, we are the best of the best right? So why do we have to settle for second rate administrators who don't support the good teachers that we have. The days are gone where tech students send their kids to tech. Those days are over, now I just want to get out.
she has mood swings but if you do her work she's fine. wrote me an excellent college reccomendation. if you break 85 in her class i would reccomend asking her for one. huge sports fan which is also a plus.
i can't believe all these people that complain about her. she was the best teacher i ever had. in the senior short story class i had with her last year the stuff we did in her class i am doing now in college. you people aren't worthy of her. have some respect if not for a teacher then for an adult. she was the best. if you don't like teachers like her. you won't like most of your collge prof. that is, if most of you go to college.
While she definitely know the material, and is quick on the grading, she forces her own opinions on you. Don't be surprised to have you opinion called wrong several times throughout her class. Easily aggravated temper and loving her (scant) power as a teacher adds up to a long and annoying class. The best that can be said is that she is a fair grader.
Mrs. Lehrman gives 1-2 homeworks(essays) per week. She's a good Teacher; and she sometimes lets her bias get in the way of her teaching. She has been known to get angry. Get on her good side and do all the work, you will easily pass.
ms. lehrman is the best. her homeworks in short story class and the speeches we did for spring semester speech made me get high grades in college for Speech and Writing (that's what i'm taking now). thank you soooo much ms. lehrman!
with Lehrman it's an either/or in terms of how well you do in her class. she can be eccentric about her work, but that just means better quality learning if you take heed. just do her work and failing won't be an option.
Ms. lehrman is a great teacher if you do her work. Don't take her class if you are a slacker- YOU WON'T PASS.
she's a fun teacher but she can be mean. if ur a slacker DO NOT take her class
Just don't get on her bad side and you'll do fine in her class... She is very helpful and will go out of her way to help you!
i dont know why people dislike mrs. lehrman but she is the BEST TEACHER THERE IS. you people hate her probably cause you dont do anywork and get on her badside
ms.lehrman is the best teacher they don't make teacher's like her anymore works as hard as her students maybe even more just participate and reallylisten to her
She works extremely hard as a teacher. She checks over everything and even has an e-mail address for us to ask her questions... and she answers back.
excellent teacher! I feel like I'm a better writer thanks to her. She goes out of her way to help her students. Do your work and u'll do well. J.P.
Her class is NOT hard if you do your work & just listen to what she's asking, & if you don't get it, ask!Ms L, I'm a better writer because of you, thanks! ~MJab
Great teacher, always willing to help, even gives out her email address so that you can ask questions! I won't be having her next year but I wish I was.
teaches good but has an anger problem. do good in class n she'll be your best teacher do bad n she'll be your worst nightmare n make u feel bad. i dont like her
please give it up with the speeches....i'm actually afraid of not graduating...and i DO THE WORK!
she is the epitome of the best english teacher. we love you MS lehrman!! and those of you who hate her...do what you have to do...show up..and no crises please!
fair teacher, helpful, but she can go temporarily insane sometimes and chew your face off. =)
shez a great teacher...sometimes her temper gets the best of her, but nonetheless shez a really an amazing teacher!
She is one of the best teachers that you can find. She has so helpful in so many ways. Goes beyond the call of duty to help
she's my favorite teacher! she really helps you get better as a writer. particiapte and she'll love you
Many of us have forgotten how an English class is suppose to be like. She has reminded us of that. She has qualities of a true teacher.
You don't fail just because you don't talk much. The HWs are easier than the projects, a lot easier.
Cool teacher, but don't like her angst towards lateness. I come later to say sorry, and she ignores my presence & gives attitude. Good sense of humor though.
Her class is too hard and if you do not talk all the time, she will fail you. If you do not have quotes(quality doesn't matter), she will give your HW a 5.5.
At first i couldn't stand her because I wasn't doing well on her HW. But now, she's real cool and I love her class.
lehrmans class is fun and shes funny. she is direct, a little bit too direct at times but overal shez a good teacher
may seem mean at times but is one of the best teachers ive had.
she needs to stop talking about other teachers and start paying attention to her own cirriculum...
she is the best english teacher in teh whloe school and i always look forward to her clases. time flies durng them , because its so interesting
I love her. I can't wait to go to english class. she makes the lessons so much fun with her jokes and enthusiasm. this is one time you actually enjoy learning
I enjoy her class and it's very amusing. It's the class I look forward to everyday: a time to express yourself freely.
ms. lehrman is the best teacher i've had in 4 years of high school. she doesnt give too much work and is very clear in what you have to improve upon.
Time well spent I'd say. Her work really isn't that hard and she's not as mean as people say she is. Viva Lerhmania! ;) xD
Lehrman isn't such a bad teacher, she is very nice if you do what you're suppose to do and the homework seems kind of interesting sometimes.
MRS. LEHRMAN forget these fools who write negatively of you, you are the best at what you do, teach. Never change ur teaching style, u are a great teacher!!!!!!!
she can be scarey, especially when she has one of her moments... but all in all, she's one of the smartest english teachers i have ever had.
I'm not sure i agree with her grading policies and the amount of work she gives, but she is a good teacher and a really nice person
Ms. Lehrman is the epitome of English teachers. She teaches you through the hw. If you don't do them, you don't learn and fail. DUH! Remember, cover up!
i would never call a sweet lady, but ms lehrman is one of the coolest teacher in tech . she’s hilariously funny and spunky, and definitely not boring. i would no cuz i have her class early in the mOOOrning, and see her standing outside yelling at kids sev
She is the worst teacher I've had in my life. She gives like 3 homeworks at the same time, and tells us that it'll be fun. Her teaching style is HORRIBLE!!!!!!
Very energetic, fun teacher. Interesting aproach to teaching. I learned! pd. 9
