You'll have to put in effort to get an acceptable grade. He's definitely is a harsh grader. Don't expect to get A's on your essays or overall grade. He doesn't leave comments on essays, which he justifies by saying that we won't read them, but I'm pretty sure he just looks over one paragraph and gives you a B or C. If you really want help, then schedule an appointment with him after class and he'll actually give you advice and comments. His "lectures" are alright and he's funny I guess.
In class, he has many favorites that always get A's. Although he has some favorites, the ones that aren't his favorites either get a B or lower. The people that are his favorites clearly stand out and he doesn't try to hide who they are. There was once a time where a girl had written less then me and hadn't even colored in her pictures for her summary. He had given me half credit and given the girl full credit. I was sitting there with a completed summary 3/4 of a page with colored picture.
I liked his class, a bit hard, but honestly really fun! He teaches really well too! He has a very good sense of humor
I had him two years ago for English II Honors and he taught me skills that I've used in all my English classes since. Yeah, he's a hard grader but he really teaches well and helps you become a better writer. Also a fun person to talk to. Very insightful. Very knowledgeable.
He's definitely very very hard. But he teaches you to think and write really well. Not many people get A's but if you work hard and actually talk to him about your writing and ask for help, you will get better. And idk about the person who said they had to write a 12 paragraph essay in one day? That's never happened. Lot of in class short essays and pop quizzes, though multiple choice tests are very easy if you actually read the books
I'll be honest with this guy, Savay Lieu. He is quite cold hearted, as he doesn't regret embarrassing and ruining people's view on students in front of the whole class, not even bothering to lecture them AFTER class, where no one is around. He expressively shows that he has favorites, and he assigns a lot of homework, and after 3 weeks of school, we have already written 4 essays and the honors class had to do a presentation on the first day. I hope this guy realizes what he is doing.
Mr. Lieu was my English I teacher, and I have to say that he's a funny and amiable person. To me, the people who complained about the way he taught makes me think like they were just lazy people who were trolls in class and talked out of subject. Anyways, Lieu definitely knows what he's teaching (he's been teaching for at least 15 years) and it was fun to have him as my teacher. One thing for sure, it really is difficult to receive an A. The most I had was a 96 in the first grading period.
His class is very difficult to get an A in, even for usual straight A students. His timed essay tests are brutal, but fair. He never gives impossible essay prompts to answer and most of the time, they have been already discussed in class. He is a harsh grader; gives many B's and C's and at most two A's. The best thing you can do is go in and talk to him about your essays. He truly cares about his students and spends one-on-one time with you if you have any questions. At the end, I had an A-.
He's a great, caring teacher. He's not the easiest teacher, but he definitely cares about his classes and all his students.
He isn't the easiest teacher in the world, but the experience that you get from him is worth all the grades. He is an amazing teacher, but if you need help, you need to make the effort to ask him about your essays. He cares about his students a lot.
i know that many people dislike him, but they aren't giving him a chance. it's probably because he doesn't give out many A's. they're very hard to earn in his class. the essays are hard, but just be concise and rational. i was in his honors class
Despite all the hate on here, Mr. Lieu is a great teacher. Yes, he's hard - very hard. But he has a different way of teaching. He trains you to think, and I feel that is very important. Though it is a hard class, I have learned so much from him.
Terrible at teaching, won't learn anything useful from his class. Just about every english teacher is superior to this one, switch if possible.
He was ok, but his essays killed me.
He was moderate at teaching, but he tends to judge based on one person's performance. (ex. Someone didn't do their studying, therefore he judges the entire class basing it on that one person until someone stepped up) He also picked people who couldn't read or comprehend well to narrate stories to the class which set some back quite a bit. Essay maps are key to passing this class.
It is hard to learn anything in his class. Does not know what he is doing.
Worst teacher in the world. Did everything I could, worked really hard on essays and his notebook. Every essay I got, I received a C or D+. I'm honestly not sure if he even reads essays unless they're one of his "favorites"
He is such a good teacher! he must be my favorite teacher ever!! I LOVE HIM!!! I WISH I COULD HAVE HIM FOR THE REST OF MY HIGH SCHOOL YEARS!!! AMAZING TEACHER, LIKE A FATHER TO ME!! YEEEHAAWWWWW!!!!
This guy is a troll, he is funny sometimes. But he makes students feel bad about themselves and think he is the superior.
I truly learned more from Honors English 1 than AP Lang and Honors 2 combined. He has a great sense of humor and improved my handwriting. Don't judge him by his grading. I'll never forget Mr. Lieu. :)
He is not an "easy A teacher", but he repares me for national test. I learned a lot and like him because he is not wasting my time.
I had Lieu for Honors Eng 1 last year and all I can say is that it was AMAZING. I learned so much from his class, but don't expect to get an A. I wish he could be my English teacher throughout HS!
A funny, entertaining, but DIFFICULT teacher. His regular class is taught like an honors class and his honors class is intense. His expectations are high and his essay requirements are little ambiguous. Admist it all, I truly love this teacher, regardless of the difficulty. (To explain the unhappy face, he's not clear or very helpful, but that's because of his extreme testing style.)
I at first hated him- he kicked me out of the Honors English class and tarnished my transcript with B-'s. But his "unique" teaching methods allowed me to realize my own faults and work from there.
Mr. Lieu's class is pretty fun. It's hard, though. He grades twice as hard for Honors English. And he does spray grammatically-challenged students with water, so careful! Essays are a pain, as well.
mr.lieu is a fun hard teacher. he actually does teach and let you talk and still have fun. He gives you hardcore work but it's all worth it at the end. in his class STUDY!!!
fun. grades a bit hard but still pretty cool. expects you to do work in class but joins in on the convo anyway. sprays misbehaving people with water!
had him a few years ago. great teacher. very understanding. i wasnt even mad at him for giving me an F on a play we wrote, but thats because i deserved it.
mr. lieu is a coooooooool teacher. =D he is funny at times too. his class was so hard last year. essay for every tests. >_> aiy. lol.
inspired me in everything that i did. thanks mr. lieu.
he's a cool teacher but he grades really hard. i enjoy being in his class but i just don't like the work he gives us. it's too hard. especially his essays.
gosh he is so hard. too many requirements and barely explains anything
his class is sooooooo hard and the eassays are hard too -_- he grades way to hard too. his class is fun though o.o except when it comes to the grading
very nice and fun teacher. class can be hard thou if u dont put in effort
He as a person is nice i joked around with him all the time. But he really cant teach all that well. Also he grades HARD to give you an idea, on my last project 90% got Cs or below.
If he misses ur homework he will call it later. And all of us should have reasons to hate him. For him we students have more reasons for that hating.
Hes okay. Did not teach me anything during my freshman year. Thank goodness I moved. Has a big ego. Yah. Not a great teacher but he is trying and improving.
He is a very good teacher. He has very good ideas. He is really nice and funny.
MR LEUI MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO LIKE HIS CLASS. HE MAKES AN EFFORT FOR THE STUDENTS TO HATE HIM.
Very Nice, tough writing assignments, but it isnt to bad.
