He only teaches the basics of every unit but doesn't demonstrate how to solve problems, so if the subject doesn't come naturally to you, it might be hard to do well on tests. He knows this though, so he gives away easy points to make sure that your grade won't tank as long as you do the assigned work.
Also, even if you have no interest in physics I definitely recommend taking his class anyways. He's a truly inspirational teacher and he really cares about his students.
A bright spot for Westlake High School. I can almost guarantee he's the best teacher on campus and he really seems to care about his students and goes out of his way to make sure they really understand. On top of that, all his projects/activities/games are much more fun that traditional lectures and makes everyday unique. 100% recommend everyone at WHS to take physics.
Really awesome teacher that is totally willing to help his students. Makes physics fun to learn.
Not only is he an amazing teacher but also an all round good person. He is always willing to sacrifice his time to help you and just truly cares for his students. If westlake had to brag about their teachers, Mr Holloway would definitely be one of them. He is a very knowledgable person even outside the field of physics and sometimes the class has very interesting discussions that really open up people's minds. 100% reccomend him
Mr. Holloway has inspired me to be so much more than I ever thought I could be. Someday I will owe a large portion of my success to him.
A true beast at teaching and at life. Having him as a teacher is an enlightening experience. Also, the class is easy if either you're naturally smart or you pay attention in class. Definitely recommend.
Mr.Holloway makes a relatively difficult class perceived by the public eye as boring and nerd-or oriented -- actually really interesting and educating. I think physics should be a mandatory course just because it helps the student understand the world around him/her so much better. You can explain things that you never knew were occuring before, which makes for interesting discussion. What I love most about his class, is his ability to answer literally question within or out of Physics.
Mr. Holloway is an extremely friendly and relatable human being. However, Physics is an extremely difficult subject for most students, including me. I really do not feel that he teaches such challenging material extensively enough. He will review the notes once, but rarely (if ever) will he answer homework questions. In fact, it seems as though we only review one warm up and briefly cover an incomprehensible lesson during an entire period, only to get loads of impossible homework every night.
Scott Holloway shows the Holy way. Pun definitely intended.
Best teacher ive ever had, next to Korshavn. Being their student will benefit you for the entire life. Clear lecture, willingness to help students with not only academic needs, but life burdens. Must take a class from him if possible. <3
Mr. Holloway is an amazing man and a truly gifted teacher. Even though I hate physics as a subject and don't undertsand a lot of it, Holloway went above the standards to give me outside help and aid me in succeeding. I appreciate his teaching so much and think his classroom philosophies are just and beneficial.
All I can say is WOW. Wonderful teacher in every way.
Well personally, I really really REALLY loved this class. The projects and the hands-on stuff in his room and the pop PhysTech were so exciting to me. I loved working and talking through physics problems with the people at my table. And building projects together with people was so FUN and such a bonding experience!!! However, the fun and easiness is in part due to me being a very PHYSICSY person. Tbh, I feel like all the involvement with math would be hell for someone who wasn't so physicsy.
Mr. Holloway's probably the best teacher on campus, at least from what I've seen. He knows the subject well, and is good at explaining physics, which is terrifying to me. The projects he assigns are creative, and pretty awesome.
Mr. Holloway made my junior year. He makes the challenges of physics super entertaining and will explain anything a million times a million different ways until you know what you're doing. Even if you don't think Physics is your thing, I totally recommend this class! Right hand rule all the way!
Probably the best teacher on campus. He actually teaches the material. Although you must be good in understanding what is going on or you will fall behind and eventually fail the class.
Amazing TEACHER. I capitalized the word "teacher" because he actually teaches his material! It's rare to find a teacher that actually teaches in this day and age. Love him!
He is a good teacher for students naturally gifted at math. For those who struggle, he has lunch time tutors to help. However, he is unorganized. Many of my friends had work lost by him and had it recorded as a zero. He does not take time to help students who are really struggling. The work load is very hard to manage. I spent most of my weekends working on physics projects or trying to catch up on homework. Only take this course if you need it for your career or are genuinely interested in it.
His philosophies behind teaching and collaboration are the greatest i have seen as a student in my years of school. While the concepts may take multiple days to acquire adequate knowledge, the help from teach/peers allow everyone to succeed
Mr. Holloway is such a great teacher that I came back for a second year! The class is pretty easy if you are good at math but I would recommend not taking C unless you are in Calculus or have already taken it. It is doable without knowing calc but calc makes the class much easier. He is extremely nice and incredibly helpful and I am very glad that I took his classes.
Normally with my teachers, if I have difficulty with the subject or do not do well on the tests, I do not like the teacher; but, Mr. Holloway's class is so interesting and he is such a great teacher who even when I do bad on the tests, I still consider him my favorite teacher. He is overall such a a kind hearted guy and he's awesome!!
Mr. Holloway is without a doubt the best teacher I have ever had. He relates to his students and creates an environment where you can learn and have fun. He is a genuinely friendly and likable teacher who gets the best out of his students through mutual respect rather than being strict. If every teacher was like Mr. Holloway I would never want to leave school, he is knowledgeable, easy to relate to, and passionate about his job in a way I have never seen before.
Mr. Holloway's class is laid-back, yet highly informative. Although physics is a difficult subject that many struggle with, countless opportunities are provided for students having problems, ensuring success if one is willing to invest the time. Mr. Holloway's teaching style revolves around problem-solving, allowing students to see concepts in action, and his knowledgeably on all things physics allows his explanations to be clear and concise. A great class taught by a great man.
Mr. Holloway is possibly the greatest teacher I've ever had. He really connects with students and doesn't teach for the test so much as for the students to learn, understand, and appreciate the subject. He is understanding of the responsibilities students have outside of his class and doesn't make his class a busy-work time consumer. Holloway is a truly honest, moral person and a good man. He also gives valuable advice and life skills and is very funny.
Scott Holloway is an exceptional teacher and by far gives the most understandable lessons a teacher has ever given me. His clarity is key in making sure his students have a grip on the material and know how to use it in many different contexts. Its the most interactive course I've ever taken and i look forward to taking more like it.
Since I like working on my own and structured notes, I was not a big fan of how Mr. Holloway taught. Many times, we learned through doing problems rather than actually being taught how to do a type of problem and then practicing. However, it really forced me to actively participate in class and learn how to work with others. For me, the projects were very helpful in that sense. Sometimes it was a lot of work, but it was always manageable, especially with Holloway Passes. Also, he's a great guy.
I do think that Mr. Holloway is a great guy. However, I am not a fan of his teaching skills. Physics is supposed to be difficult, yes. But Mr. Holloway's class was frustrating to the point where I regret taking the class. It was not an enjoyable experience at all. Everyone ended up copying the homework because the load was way too much. He piled up projects, tests, homework, that the average student just did not have any motivation anymore because everything was overwhelming.
Mr. Holloway. What a great guy. He'll explain the material in a clear and concise manner, with humor, sarcasm, and interesting tangents thrown in. He'll answer any questions you have as long as you speak up and ask them, and is very lenient and understanding of student's schedules. Thats not to say he isn't serious, however, as he takes the education of his students very seriously and values honesty and effort. Overall, great teacher to have, great class to take.
Mr.Holloway is one of the best teachers I've had at Westlake. He is very knowledgeable and really tries to help the students. One of things that separates him from his colleagues is his ability to adapt to the students. If he sees that the students are having trouble understanding a topic he will push back the test and review so it makes sense. His after school study sessions were very helpful in preparing for the AP Test. With all that being said Physics is a hard class so you have to work hard
Mr. Holloway is one of those people that knows the subject he teaches and also knows that it is a difficult subject. With that in mind, he always helps struggling students and is always willing to give extra help at just about any time of the day. Sometimes it is hard to understand things at the first explanation, but that's just physics.
Mr. Holloway is a wonderful teacher who truly loves to teach and tries his best to explain every concept. He wants to help all his students learn as much as possible, and to inspire them to pursue their passions in the future. However, he doesn't always understand certain topics well enough to teach them, so his students must put in their own time and effort to learn it themselves. He also abides by the rules he sets for the classroom, and seldom makes exceptions for any student.
Although sometimes his sarcasm is hard to detect, he is a great teacher. He's very trusting of students, so doing your homework and whatnot really depends on you.
Amazing teacher, the best one I have ever had. Through his interesting way of teaching, I have decided to pursue engineering in college and in the job world.
Challenging classes, but that has more to do with the subject material than with the teacher. Does everything he can to help you out. Approachable, reasonable, relaxed. Passionate about science and teaching. Kind of a prankster. Easily sidetracked by interesting science questions, but that's a minor gripe, and the answers are often so fascinating you almost don't mind. Overall, exceptional as both a teacher and a person.
My two years of physics with Mr. Holloway were very enjoyable, and I found it very easy to absorb a lot of information in the low pressure, easygoing atmosphere of his classes. Many students as well as I respect him for his humility and honesty. Overall, his expectations are exceptionally reasonable. The energy he brings to the classroom motivates students to learn.
Mr. Holloway is an inspired educator who makes his students truly enjoy the course material, whether they're destined to be the world's next physicists or not. He almost always has a smile on his face and the enthusiasm that he brings to his class is unmatched; I couldn't have asked for a better Physics Teacher.
Mr. Holloway is a fantastic teacher; he is extremely knowledgeable, very helpful, and definitely sufficiently prepared us for the AP test. His teaching style and class setup is unlike any other teacher I have had, and the opportunities given to work with other students and figure things out together are incredibly beneficial. Amazing teacher, great class
Mr. Holloway is an outstanding teacher. The way he helps when we approach new concepts or difficult specific problems is clear and noninvasive. His knowledge of the material makes physics much more interesting. He's not very strict, either, which is great - an unclear deadline is always made up for with extension and gracious curves make the class approachable. I would have liked more in-class lab and AP practice time and less at-home project time.
You will never get a much better teacher than Mr. Holloway, he is not only very helpful but also very concerned about his students and I have nothing bad to say...at all.
He is a great person, and makes the classroom a fun place to be. He is very good at making the students excited about physics. His high standards and expectations bring the knowledge level and skill of the class up.
Great guy and awesome teacher. He really cares about his students' successes.
Gives way too many projects that don't teach physics at all but he does a pretty good job of teaching core curriculum.
Feel as though he could lecture a bit more but that's a personal opinion.
He really helped me out. I was down and out with some experiences I had and it caused me to have a lower grade than I could achieve. He gave me a second chance and let me turn in a lot of missing work
extremely difficult class but having holloway makes it soooo worth it. he is a brilliant and great teacher!
he is a genius and happens to be able to give you some of his genius. You may not get it at first, but he will MAKE you get it.
Great teacher. He works you hard but the class is worth it. He's brilliant and interesting.
