I felt like I was doing good with her tests, and that I was going to ace the regents. Well, she missed most of the content. I suggest you just buy a regents book to study for the exam.
She knows her chemistry but she really sucks at explaining. Unless you're good at studying from the textbook by yourself, you're pretty much screwed. She only puts formulas and steps on board. I had her for AP CHEM and holy crap...those tests...they were inhumane. She gives daily quizzes which I think are pretty easy since she goes over the question in class but changes the format or numbers. She assigns mad homework and never really goes over it. She just tells kids to put it on the board.
She's a bit too introverted and withdrawn to be teaching effectively. I'd say she should improve on opening up to her students more and focusing on the lesson.
I had a really good experience in her class because I understood all of the material really well, but I recognize that some people weren't as lucky. Her class was pretty straightforward and understandable, but I admit it was less than exciting. I know a lot of people were confused in her class, but I honestly think that is more to do with the subject than her. Some people didn't make that much of an effort and then got lost and tended to blame her.
Mrs. Mehlman actually teaches well, but there are unfortunately to many slackers that complain about her and hate her. I payed attention in her class, did the homework, and had a high average. Her tests are regents questions, so really easy. Her class is more of a lecture. Too many people complain about lack of notes, but you should take notes on what she says. What do you think college lectures are going to be like? Are you just going to sit there and do nothing? Blame yourself not her lessons.
Best Chemistry teacher hands-down!!! Loves teaching and it is evident in how she treats ALL her students. Great Motivator!!!
Ms.Mehlman is terrible at teaching students. She never clarifies anything when I ask her questions. If you do her homework you'll somewhat get through her class but she roasts the hell out of you if you fail a quiz or a test. Shes not the best chemistry teacher but not the worst.
dont see how anyone could hate her. she has her moments but who can blame her. i thought she was super nice and she definitely tried to help kids who struggled by offering tutoring everyday after class and let them retake quizzes. i will never forget her. she doesnt deserve the hate she gets
Mehlman is not a bad teacher. If you actually pay attention in class, you will breeze through her tests. She may be a bit boring but if u really try, you will know everything for her tests. And her tests are just regents questions. Its not bad. Just pay attention and do the homework. Her homework is usually no more than five or six questions from the TB. Actually do them because they help tremendously. And if you don't understand something, just raise your hand. Her class is what you make of it.
My lab teacher...you only see them once a week so it's hard to say wheather they are really bad or good. She seems like a knowledgable person, but is unclear on some instructions, possibly a unfair grader...(got an 80 on the first lab...it was freakin scenarios for lab safety....(How the f do you give someone less than a 90 for that???)
She is the boring-est, annoying-est, worst teacher ever. She cannot teach even if her life depended on it. She is unorganized and her "methods" suck. If you have her, leave. Participation doesn't mean anything. She is rude and disrespectful. If she doesn't like you, she will never like you. Since she teaches Gateway, she thinks that the regents class she has are up to the standards as the ap kids. if u dont ask any questions and just sit there with a questioning face she will just move on.
do your homework and you'll do fine. one of the nicest teachers at tech and you can always go to her for tutoring if u need help.
Her teaching method is so bad, and wastes so much time teaching the simpliest of things like significant digits which she took over 2 weeks to teach where kids were still having trouble with it. The textbook gave a much easier way at teaching it than her 'method'. I am literally learning from my classmates, friends, internet, and textbook, every other way except from her class. So my advice to you is, study hard in her class
she gives way too much homework, especially over breaks her teaching method is bad, isnt very clear at all sometimes rude to students unintentionally
Truthfully, she is one of the nicest teachers you'll ever have in Tech. However, her lectures aren't as appealing because it's mostly going over homework questions from the textbook. Not that it's hard but these questions don't prepare you enough for her tests which are MUCH harder. I think most of the negative feedbacks are from the fact that she gives a quiz every single day, and I mean it! But she's really cool and you'll find that the AP test is much easier than her class tests. "Onward!"
Truthfully, she is an extremely nice teacher. But in terms of her teaching, her method isn't AS effective. Her classes are basically going over questions from your homework, and her test are very hard
Yes, she is kind of a nice teacher, but her tests are so HARD! She's not a very direct teacher, i didnt learn from her i learned from classmates!
I had her last year. Her tests were VERY hard. And class is, like many others said, simply going over HW questions. However, I got a 4 on the AP exam. So, I guess her very difficult style of teaching might have payed off...
Very hard exams. Class work is basically going over HW. Good Luck,
she was the reason i got an 5 on the AP, in fact mehlman's class had more 5s than any other teacher. Which means if you are complaining about her class, then you need to face the truth that you are probably really stupid or you need to rethink your life because learning is not a skill you possess.
Hard tests and she doesn't teach you're pretty much on your own when you have her.
She is a tough teacher. However, she knows her chemistry and forces you to put effort in learning the material on your own outside of class. I had group study sessions with peers and did a lot of practice and reading and got an A. Her tests are multiple choice and long problem parts and you have to know what you are doing. It'll be tough, but it is an AP class so use it to learn the subject well. Her class notes and tests still help me with college chemistry and its become easier now. She is :).
Ms. Mehlman is an awesome AP Chem teacher. She was very helpful; if you didn't understand anything and bothered to ask her, she would make it clear. For those who do poorly in her class, it's your own fault because AP Chem is supposed to be a college level course and you should be studying on your own in the first place. If you do the HW, then the class is just plain fun. She doesn't give much notes, but you don't need it if you have the textbook. Just take your own notes if you need it. =]
doesn't actually teach. spends 2 periods going over homework questions, which the students don't know how to do. best thing is to study on your own, and hopefully you'll be ok. nice lady, really bad at teaching though.
I'm sure she could be a wonderful teacher but pleaseeee speak louder =( If the people in the front have trouble hearing how do you think it's like for the one's in the back?
u definitely hav to do ur own studying, but its an ap class. if u ask her for help shell grumble a bit about how you were supposed to ask your classmates, but shell help you. got 5 on ap tho:)
Mehlman is an excellent teacher. You will learn a lot from her if you pay attention. Do you know how many of her students get 5 on the AP? Well . . . a lot. Shut up and study a little, it is an AP class.
City morgue has more exciting teachers than this one.
she cannot teach at all.. the whole class is talking and she does nothing to stop it.. I hope i get a better chem teacher next term! wish me luck on the chem regents!!
shes cool and all, but some of her explanations leave u more confused than when u asked the question.
Ms. mel... ur a good teacher. Believe in urself. Never mind those other kids.
she's an okay person but she has no idea how to teach. she seems to know chem but doesn't know how to teach it. the whole class fails and she wonders why!
I guess Ms. Melhman is kind of a good teacher after all; I managed to get a 5 on the AP Chemistry exam because of her.
sometimes she can be great but she just has no spirit in herself
Not everybody learns in her class because not everybody listens or try to listen to her lessons. Anyone can do well in her class if they'd just pay attention.
very unclear and makes things too complicated. her class is nap time for most people. answer the review book questions and youll do great on her tests
She's nice, but she makes things so complicated. Her tests r easy if u read de chapter or unit.
she's a nice person, but needs to explain her work better.
she never explains anything then gets upset when the whole class doesnt know somethin obviously if the whole class doesnt know somethin its because u cant teach
shes nice and all but she doesnt explain anything!!!
Ok listen if its the whole class that doesnt know how to graph the activation energy chart its not us who have the problem its you!!
The best science teacher i had in tech.very nice and helpful. Do your work and you'll pass! stop complaining.
she can't teach; but she's a great person!!! study on ur own though
nicestt eacher u can have, do what your suppose to and u will succeed
you are very very nice, but you really don't teach, we gotta take AP Exam!!
easy but so unclear... i bet the reason i pass is luck
Sometimes hard to understand! You'll love the make-ups. Overall, she's good!
she needs to teachno real notes all basedon reading..plz teach in class, got 2pd
Although I'm doing bad in her class, I actually look forward to it everyday.
hard, but smart, my friend said she's the reason she got a 5 on the ap
IF YOU KEEP UP, SHE WILL BE THE REASON YOU PASS THE AP
