Mr. Coakley is awesome! He's one of my favorite teachers. I had quit band for a few years for different reasons and I was a pretty awful student my freshman year, but he still let me have a fair second chance and although I am still pretty bad at trombone, I can honestly say I learn more in his class than I do in almost all my other classes. He's a great person.
Unless you're one of his favorites, then you are nothing to him. He only cares about his musically talented, Juliard-potential students. Even if you are good at your instrument like I was, he still won't care unless you want to become a future band director or something. The whole band is concerned with competitions, and they don't appreciate any of the parents that DO help. And they are notorious for running away the good parents. This man is not respected.
Nice but no personality. Willing to help if you ask for it but does not do any one on one lessons. Seems unorganized. Doesn't have respect from everyone in band. Some assistant band directors really treat kids in band bad. They talk down to them in rehersals. They definitely have their favorites and everyone knows it. Not good with communication at all. The entire band is only concerned with competitions for marching and for concerts. No communication with parents at all and does not care
Mr.Coakley is the best teacher at Biloxi High. He is very easy to get along with. He is always around to help with rudiments, scales, etudes, anything! He is very laid back and he never yells. He doesn't have to because everybody respects him. He has been with us for two years and our band has improved tremendously. First place! :) I can honestly say that he is the best teacher ever!
