As a dean, he's just about perfect, as a teacher I have to say he may very well be THE WORST TEACHER i have EVER come across. He reads text book definitions and his assignments he never goes over, I enjoy when he's on military leave because the student teachers that replace him are far more qualified for the position. His final project was nearly impossible and ridiculous, it wasn't to have us learn anything, simply to have his students waste their time doing nonsensical steps over and over.

I personally like Givens. I think he's one of the more approachable faculty members and he's really understanding and reasonable. As a teacher, I'm not a fan because a) I hate science and b) he's absent for at least half the year for military duty. His grading policy is restricted to random busy work. Its just as easy to do well as it is to do poorly. Again, Givens is a GREAT and wonderful person. So easy to get along with, as long as you're not doing something stupid to land in the dean's off.

I have him this year and he's been out for 4 out of the 5 months so far. For the month that he was here, he gave us some useless notes and taught the same thing everyday.

he's a very cool person. but if you ask me what he taught me, then i would have to tell you "nothing" even though i was in his physics class last year. as a dean, he's good but as a teacher, not so much

98 in the class, 79 on that Physics Regents back in '02. You tell me what's wrong. Then again, a lot of people did fail that Regents. Not a good teacher though.

to me, a good physics teacher is one that keeps his students awake in class - he's the first science teacher that keeps me awake!
